    Matt is spot on with how M vs Porsche are evolving. Porsche GT cars continue to appeal to the core enthusiast. While M is trying to appeal to the masses, which in turn, turns off the core enthusiast that made M what is once was.
    Now M is for marketing. Cool cars but for a new different breed of buyers who prefer smooth automatics, piped engine noise, and turbo charger spool sounds.

    I have a RWD G80, it’s my third M car, and favorite so far. I don’t find it that digital feeling… but Im not comparing it to GT3s and NA V8s. I agree about the front though, I don’t love it. I work in advertising with a lot of creatives/designers who are not car people, and they all love the design. To each their own. Glad you sold it, you need to have what makes you happy, especially with how much these things are.

      If you haven't been able to, try to drive an E46, E92, or even an E36 M3. The F87 M2 is also a good middle ground between the pre F80 M3's and the more modern M cars. E36/46/92 are definitely not nearly as good of daily driver's if you prioritize speed, and technology, but the driving experience is head and shoulders above imo.

    • @Andrew-mg9zv
      @Andrew-mg9zv Год назад +2

      @@dsher503 I haven’t driven those (would love to) but I have driven a manual 997 turbo, a f430 Scuderia, and a 458 (on track) so I do understand the digital argument-and it's valid when comparing it to past louder manual NA cars with hydraulic steering and no infotainment. But you won’t find any of that in anything classed with a G80 in 2023
      I think where I land with the G80 is its fantastic for what it is. Its crazy fast, it has *enough* feel, very practical (which to me is an important component to an M car) and although it lacks a level of emotion; it still has an edge to it. To me it’s the right amount of everything (for a daily). My friend has a 991 GTS and he loves driving my G80, thinks its really fun. But we don't compare them. Too different.
      If I was going for fun/emotion I wouldn't do a BMW, it'd NA Porsche hands down. But they have zero practicality and where Im at in my life I need the 4 doors and a trunk :)

    • @dsher503
      @dsher503 Год назад

      @@Andrew-mg9zv Totally understandable and I'm glad you love it! That's all you can ask for in a car. As a new dad I fully get the practicality argument. Anything less than 4 doors can be a big pain in the butt. Speaking of NA Porsche's, my next car will be a 981 GT4. I'm more of a hatchback guy too for a practical daily so I tend to spend more on my "toy" than my daily. Hopefully you got a cool color for your G80. The Green and the Jahre colors are amazing.

    It’s not meant to be anything like a previous M3. An E30 is nothing like an E92. And of course they made the car bigger. They have a 2 series and in some countries a 1 series. Sad to see the contest go. Most of it was off camera, anyway, I guess, like you said. The Porsche is a great idea for the Helen house, if you wanna go by yourself, and leave the rest of the family at the house. Hard to get a feel for a car only putting 60 miles on it. My drive him from picking mine up, was further. New owner should have fun with it.

On track the E90 was fantastic, but also a comfortable long haul cruiser (drove it to Florida from Illinois). And finally, the sound. The entire reason why I love my G80CXD so much is its very unique combination of performance & practicality, which is truly unrivaled, esp for that price point. Its $4k away from being a 9 second car. I can have both kiddos comfortably in their backseats and groceries in the spacious trunk, and an hour later I can be gapping C8 Vettes.
    If you are looking for a "Pure drivers car" the G87 would be the choice to fill that role. The G80CXD is not a pure drivers car, its definitely a high performance car, but you are hard pressed to find any modern saloons that are pure drivers cars. RS3? The last 4 door pure drivers car I can think of is an Evo8 or Evo9...
    The G80 serves a purpose for people who want high end speed in a practical package. I think BMW did an excellent job balancing that equation, because its far..... far from a "smooth" ride. To each their own of course, a wonderful thing about living in a Capitalist society is we get options to match our preferences.

The "pig nose" problem is solved with the superb new ADRO bumper. A change of turbos plus internals will get you up to 1000 ps. Love my G80 M3. Understand it is not for everyone...including Matt. I know some Porsche guys that stick their nose (no pun intended) up at BMW owners. But, the car drives well, packages even better and out the door for a fully loaded M3 including CCB vs a base model 911 at the same price? Nah. Plus the 911 has never been an everyday driver at least for me. Owned them, will own again. But, it's a weekend car whereas the M3 you can drive anytime.

      Most Porsche owners I know think BMW enthusiast owners are awesome fellow brothers. The problem is the proportion of non-enthusiasts is far higher for BMW than Porsche.
      I own a 997.2 Turbo S and I’m currently trying to daily it. If I were single I’d had no kids, it would be fine. But with two kids, one about to get his license, with practices, etc….it’s hard. Not impossible. But quite difficult, especially since both kids play lacrosse and my son plays D with a 6’ pole….
      I’ve driven the G80, G82 and G83. The front end isn’t great….but man it’s a nice package, and I really like iDrive8. I have the feeling the 997 is going to get swapped. I will miss it but I won’t miss having to strategize what car I have to take in the morning based on what I’m doing that day….

      @@joetacchino4470 I've owned several 911s also and found many Porsche and BMW owners all good folks. Not my point. Matt's vid was fine and explained the car was not for him and I can totally understand that. I'm just saying you cannot compare the two cars as they are completely different and particularly with price point. I've never been a big fan of Porsche's ala carte (expensive) option ordering and was not satisfied with just ordering a base 911. I don't think a production Spyder was worth the price point of a fully loaded limited edition Jahre and I would have stuck with the Jahre. Just my opinion.

    Maybe people will read my post and get a completely diff view...
    yes im a purist, I have some of the best porsches to drive, EVER... and i still grew to LOVE my G80 m3 x drive, for what it is, and for a high performance 4 door machine...
    Ive had all the older M cars, and i have currently 991.2 manual gt3, 997 gt2 modded, RUF gt2 ... I think the g80 m3 front end, double wishbones and geometry turns in better/faster/sharper than all of the porsches
    I hated the g80 when i first got it then drove it from boring Florida to NY, mountains in between, and all of my fav backroads in NY. Its mind blowing what this car can do in summer heat, winter freezing temps. Never understeers, correct mid corner and it goes wherever you say... I think the steering heft is amazing just like my AMG GTR , matter of fact, g80 m3 x drive reminds me of a 4 door AMG GTR up front ! Its telepathic in the corners at any speed, just mind bending at some points
    Not really sure what else to say, yes e92 m3 on coilovers, exhaust has way more raw mechanical emotion than g80, g80 will run laps around it on a track or in backroads... is the g80 m3 most emotional? No, but honestly its a stiff chassis and ride, you feel alot thru the steering wheel if you live somewhere with rougher pavement, when in florida on Smooth roads yes ill agree youre robbed of a lot of feel, but that goes for other cars as well
    Im really rambling with no aim to my thoughts however just what came to mind.... anyone have any questions LETS CHAT LOL
    And for someone so obsessed over soul, 992 gt3 is a step behind in the soul category from 991.2 platform , with all due respect !!

    This truly concerns me. I still have my e92 for the last 6 years and will never sell it, but I am waiting for an allocation for a 6mt g80 to use as a daily.

I trust Matt a lot because I do think he is honest in his assessments. I've had all m3's to date, the ones worth keeping were the e30 and the e46, my g80 is the best of them all BY A MILE, don't take the word of people talking from sentimentalism,the f series m3 are the worst of the bunch, big heavy slow pigs, interior like a diesel base model, a shitty 335i with a tune will fuck your day up. If you gonna make it fat and big, make it FAST and the g80 will run rings around ANY previous m3, straight line, road or track, and for the first time ever actually feels like it's worth what you pay for, not just a badge. My e92 was the first car I've ever sold just months after taking delivery,getting gapped by everything got old really fast,I'll bet my life savings the g80 will lap the e92 in under 10 laps at any track, the acceleration, breaking and especially cornering speed and traction is not even close, not even in the same league

    I think for the enthusiasts, bmw lost it when they went with the turbo engine, at least for me. I dont understand why they can't just make what porsche does and offer the normal m3 und m4 with the turbo engine and the cs,gts versions with a revised e92 na v8 500hp engine.
    You wouldn't even need awd because of the better torque curve for traction on a na engine.
    Porsche does it too with gt3 and normal 911. Even if the cs wouldn't be faster, but a lighter car with na v8 engine would give way more pleasure. No one cares that a 911 turbo s is faster than a gt3, the enthusiasts buy the gt3.
    Really unfortunate.

    Bye PPN, you are ugly but I loved you and got in the channel in the first place because of you! But I stayed because of the great content and the entire concept of the channel, Matt and everyone else there rocks. Really the car is an "M3" the same amount as that Mach-E EV thing is a "Mustang". They may be great cars for what they're worth, but they don't live up to their namesake, which ruins everything. I'm sure the current M3 is an exceptionally great vehicle, but it isn't nimble, agile and tossable like the previous ones, it really is a ballistic missile for the Autobahn. I wish the new owner clocks many happy miles on this thing, the body color is freaking amazing. Fun fact: Interlagos as in "Interlagos Blue" BMW color is a neighborhood where the Interlagos track is located in São Paulo City, Brazil, again, as in "São Paulo Yellow" BMW color. I live there lol.
