    As a painter, all hues have an undertone. Carbon I think is blue. The only real way to test is to tint with white, that will give you the undertone. I actually “saw” the blue undertone on the older paint as well. It’s gorgeous!

    Becky, my dad was a painter all his life. I worked for him and then in the paint depth at a big box store. For rollers the type roller depends on if you are painting a surface with texture or smooth surface. The fluffer the roller the more texture.there are rollers that are foam or have less hair or fluff on them for a smoother surface. Also you want an angle brush for cutting in. Hope that makes sense

    Hi Becky! Paint doesn't properly dry so mich as it cures. To that end, if it looks to be a perfect match when you first apply it, you'll be disappointed 24 hours later. It's a "take a deep breath and trust the existence of primer/sealer" kind of thing.
    Also, if you don't want to use painter's tape for work like this, use a putty knife for cut in work. The razor blades are nice, but if you scrub back and forth with them, you risk scratching the window. Sharp cut in lines are the hallmark of a professional job, but painter's tape is a relatively new invention. Get a couple cheap, plastic putty knives and have a damp rag handy. It kinda works like cleaning your windows at a gas station.

  • @robertmaylock9532
    @robertmaylock9532 Год назад +6

    Sanding in the correct direction makes a difference, as does filling holes with wood putty, letting it dry adequately and sanding the putty holes (sometimes repeatedly!) before painting. You certainly would have been able to sand off the ridges from the previous hardware if you had the attention to sand repeatedly before painting.

  • @joybird4870

    Most things...doors, towel racks...toilet tissue holders all have set screws...don't know if that is what you were looking for or not....but what I usually do is whenever dealing with hardware like that, I run my finger all around the outside of it and then you can usually find that little recess that has a set screw...and if youir towel rack in your bathroom starts to get a little wobbly, it is usually that set screw has worked loose and needs a tightening with an allen wrench.....ask me how I know !! lol !!!!

The black paint seems to have a blue tint because if you mix black you want to always have a certain percentage of blue in there so it looks really "brilliant" black. If you do not add the blue the black looks muddy and brownish. That goes for wall paint but also if you paint art in many kind of mediums. At least that is what I learned in design school. Hope that helps to clear up the confusion for you.

    I love how you actually go to the trouble to do the irritating prep work on the door. I have a hard time sticking with that type of stuff, just want to pass it off to someone else and I'll come back and paint! So, kudos to you girl! Tip from my dad when I was younger and doing odd jobs like this - if you are taking something down that has parts, esp screws, get a container - like Tupperware - to put it in AS YOU GO. He would remind me of the times when I was a kid and dad would call us all in to search the floor & walkway looking for missing parts because he picked up something after it was out and moved it, dropping tiny bits as he went. So, he learned to get a container for each thing and take it down into it's own container with a piece of paper in it ( pre cell phones with cameras) where he would note anything odd about how to put it back together because it's easy to get things mixed up after a bit of time goes by. This tip did save my butt several times and eliminated the 'what does this screw belong with' question. He always had a stack of plastic margarine tubs sitting on his workbench and this memory makes me smile and laugh a bit.

    A black door elevates the look of home. Great job and yes we have all had those bumps in a project that drags it out. But the outcome is worth it.

    In Chinese feng shui maroon or red on doors is to welcome guests, the front door welcomes chi energy, perhaps that’s why they were maroon

    Next year I wouldn't prune your tomatoes that far back. Even though they are determinate, when you take that many leaves off you are cutting the nutrients that the plant is getting and that the plant can give the fruit it produces. Cutting it back that much will minimize the size and quantity of fruit you get.

    For future reference, blue is the base color of black. That is what gives it its depth of color, but I can understand the confusion you probably felt. The door looked great! You are an awesome homemaker and homesteaders! Thanks for sharing all you do! God bless you all!❤️🙏🏻✝️

    I was visiting family, and wasn't able to watch any RUclips. I'm back home now, and resting. I just got done catching up on Acre Homestead. I was talking to some friends about the RUclips that we watch. And the one channel we all had in common and the one we love the most was Becky's. Keep up the great job.

    I have 2 things I want to say. First, I made the Honey Chipotle marinade with chicken thighs. I took it out of the freezer yesterday and the recipe is absolutely delicious!! Friends you have to try it!! My 2nd thought is about experimenting in the garden. I have never grown any vegetables from seeds. So, I decided to pull a "Becky" and just do it!! I'm so excited I'm seeing germination. My biggest thrill is bush beans. Have a wonderful day everyone, Debbie Lavigne ❤

    You crack me up! Easy pour spout, not gonna use that. Lolololol. I love how real you are and we get to see your process. As for prep work, I had to come to terms with all the prep steps of sewing something… I literally made a choice to enjoy every step. And I’ve been sewing for 45 years since junior high. You’ve inspired me so many times. Keep up the hard work. Blessings to you and your family.

    Paint will usually dry darker that what it looks like wet also😊 that's why when you purchase paint they put a spot on the can where the formula is and dry with a hair dryer. Behr paint and Valparaiso from lowes are probably the best quality paint out there in my opinion

    Becky, when you had your camera at an angle the paint did have a blue tint to it as you started painting again. But it does look black after it dries. I love that you changed all the red to black. It looks more cohesive then the red. Love it.
