This is how my dad showed love. He would look around for something he could tweak or trim and the next time he visited he would bring tools/ supplies. Just good memories. Dads Rock!

If it is clean up with soap and water= means it is water based. Means you can clean and re-use your rollers and brushes. It will be waterproof after it cures. The down side to this is that you may need to do this every year (depending on the weather in your area), It should be recommended on the can. It's a lot of work, but it is protecting your investment. An oil based stain sealer wont hurt anything because it is on the outside of the beds. And it will last 3 - 5 years. However- you can always put oil base over water base- but you can not put water base over oil base. The Bees wax (costly) is primarily used on the inside of the beds before you fill them. to protect the wood.

I have grown kajari melons two ways. The first time I grew them on the ground and when they were almost ripe the ants got into them and they were ruined. The second year I grew them I tied them in nets on a trellis. When they were ripe they dropped from the vine but were suspended in the net so I got to enjoy them. They are delicious!

When I plant beans. Peas, melons, squash and cukes I try to soak the seeds in water overnight. It helps to soften that heavy covering for quicker sprouting.
I have been using mine since 2010. So its a great choice
I think you have a really great setup with these raised beds. Good amount of space between them, good sunlight. Another advantage to planting your taller crops on the back side of each bed is that it will make it much easier to harvest higher crops from the side where the ground is higher. Imagine having tomatoes or corn on the front side where the bed is super high… you would need a ladder to pick tomatoes 😂. If I had your setup I would totally plant bush beans along the front edges because you won’t need to bend much at all to pick them. 👍

Hi Becky, I am a recent sub to your channel. I used this same stain/sealer on my raised beds in Golden Cedar. It seems to be holding up well so far, and it really goes on easily. It is great that you had your Dad to help you, otherwise this would have been an overwhelming task to complete. I hope this stain/sealer gives us many years of protection, LOL!
I am in the High Desert of Oregon and have always started pumpkins. When the pumpkin starts grow to have 2nd set of leave I will transplant to 6” pot then to the ground. We alway have 100% success with this method… being gentle to not compress the roots during transplanting. Since we lack native pollinators, we manually pollinate to gain maximum yield. The anatomy is easily recognizable (male/female, human like 😉). Clip the male flowers and place in the female flower to Pollenate…

So nice of your Dad coming over to assist you. Asked my daughter at first to assist but her and her husbands helper helped me. He dug all our holes for our tomatoes then I went in and planted them. That was a huge reinforcement! What a team you two make. Just like You and your Mom in your kitchens. We at 91 degrees right now glad I got into my garden earlier when it was 85 degrees. LOL!!

Truthfully,i’m happy Becky isn’t changing her content,i don’t mind a baby every so often here & there,but i don’t go gaga over babies & i’ve found that i’ve gradually veered away from channels i used to love but then they went all ‘baby’.Their content became completely different to what drew me in in the first place.

I made a post asking about motherhood updates and everyone immediately went to “yes I want to see the baby” and that surprised me! I’m truly curious how Becky likes being a mom, how she manages her time etc because I think it’s amazing how she gets it all done! Plus I’m a mom so it’s fun to relate to her on that level. But it’s not really about Baby Acre for me- I completely respect that she wants to keep him private.

Becky, I really enjoy your videos. I'm 67 and have been gardening and cooking my whole life. They are my favorite things. I've learned a lot of new things from your videos. I do have a suggestion about your garden. You mentioned taking the landscape fabric off before the winter but I would suggest leaving it on over the winter to prevent weed seeds from blowing onto your soil and then switch the fabric around in the spring if you need to.
Watching you with your dad makes me happy but makes me miss my dad more. I lost him back in 1985 😪. I was only 26. I worked in my gardens most of today but the wind came from nowhere and so bad we had to come in. Even the hens ran to their coop. 😄. Love watching them run 😄😄. I have just one raised bed made of big square stones. Holds the heat and my herbs go crazy. Already harvesting rosemary and dill. Love how your garden is. It was hard to imagine but THANK YOU for bringing us with you and watching the progress. You’ll be SO glad with a green house. We’ve had frost warnings the last 3 nights and I have row covers but the potted plants i just wheel them into the green house with what’s growing in there. Lots of room in the center lane 😁 I can definitively fill it. So much easier than in and out. Also, the way I harden off my plants is set them in a shaded area that the sun will hit- it is a gradual introduction

I love seeing you and your Dad work together. My Sister moved into her new house last weekend. Our Dad has been there every day since working on her electrical stuff and making sure it is safe and efficient while she works on putting the house in order. When I called today, they had their heads together looking for light fixtures. It made me happy to know my Dad was helping her. I treasure every Family moment. Even when I am not present. I found out something I didn't know about scoby awhile back, the gelatinous thing is actually called a pellicle, technically SCOBY is the liquid, You only really need the liquid as starter, the pellicle isn't necessary to ferment a new batch. =) But it's fun to throw it in there. =)

I’m surprised you didn’t use a sealer sprayer to coat your beds instead of rollers or brushes. It’s like the sprayer you use to water your starter plants with. My hubby has one that he can control the spray width to put Thomas wood sealer on our wood porch. Afterwards he washes it out and let’s it dry before storing it away till we need it again. Makes sealing wood a lot faster and gets an even coat on the wood, plus easy clean up. Something to think about next time. You are indeed blessed with parents and in-laws that help you when you need them and it’s awesome you give them lots of credit for helping you! Garden beds look amazing!

Becky, Home gardeners don’t really have to rotate crops every year. That’s for large scale farmers that really strip the soil by planting the same crop year after year. You’ll be just fine planting the same plants in your landscape holes for a few years. My grandparents planted enormous gardens every year in the same spot and never had trouble.
Same for my grandad here in Texas. He might switch where he put items but it was pretty much the same stuff year in and year out.
Dear Becky, thank you so much for your videos. They always brighten my day. I’ve gardened for many years and one of the most useful things I’ve invested in is a Brother hand held label machine. When I get a new seed packet I straight away print out a label for the solid label stick. The labels are weather resistant and I’ve had some last several years. So easy to move from seed tray to individual pot and then to outside in the garden. Might be an idea for you in the future. It’s useful indoors of course too. Keep up the good work love. Ros x

What great progress in the development of your raised bed gardens. When you think of where they were at a few months ago and how much has been completed, it's truly amazing. That crew that you hired is doing such a great job.
It is so cute that your dad helps you garden 😊. For pumpkin melons or squash seed, you can cut a little of the Edge (the round side )to help it the germination.

I used mineral oil on my beds once after I set them up 10 yrs ago and they are still in great shape. I probably need to apply it again. You reminded me that it probably needs to be done soon. I use the landscape fabric that looks like what you used and I have some in the garden that I put out in 2020 and it still looks brand new. You are so blessed to have that fabulous garden space.

Hi there Miss Doe Eyes! I have been growing zinnias for decades and the best way is to direct sow the seed. You will so many beautiful blooms. Be sure to cut them often to encourage them to bloom even more! Another tip, put pulverized egg shells, banana peels, aspirin and some Epsom salt in each hole before you set out your tomatoes. It may be too late for this year, but note that for the future. Your videos really brighten my day and help me get motivated. Love from Kentucky!
She broke a egg in the base of each hole she dug for each plant. I do the same and add banana peel . But not Epson salt , hear good and bad about that. So I had some leftover potassium tablets I couldn't swallow, and( Dr. prescribed capsules instead). I ground them in my coffee grinder to use in soil for tomatoes, I also use it in my homemade Gatorade, waste not,want not . 😂

Between now and next year for my growing season im investing in the items for my growing shelf. Becky, another thing you can use to seal wood is linseed oil. It's complely natural and would be a good thing for use on garden products.

I have done the landscape fabric in my in ground garden for about 4 years now. I leave about 6 inches for the row(instead of burning holes) and it has helped with weeding immensely!
Would it have been easier to coat the wood before creating the raised boxes? Just wondering!
Becky, I really appreciate the effort you are putting in to get your garden going. My husband and I, who are not quite as young and you and Josh, are trying to get a garden going with some raised beds and it has been a real job. Not nearly as easy as it may seem. I know it will be beautiful when it's all finished, but I can tell that mine is like a tenth the size of yours, so I can only imagine the work that is being done to get yours going. I’ll be buying an electric canning device this year to start preserving small things. There is a product called garden box armor, a plant based wood sealer and it is a clear wood stain that is safe for vegetable gardens. Since it is plant based and a food safe clear stain for garden boxes, no toxic chemicals will seep into the soil.

Hi Becky, I used the same varnish on my bee hives exterior only and I applied days before I let any bee’s use it.
I also used it on my exterior raised beds and again days before I added any soil and plants.

My Dad was a blessing to me the same way, but in the furniture department! Any time I would visit and mention I was going to look for a dresser or a table, he would go out to his woodshop and a make me beautiful handmade version! Much to Mom's chagrin sometimes cos he would stop her projects to make me something! 😂 I still cherish these pieces even though we lost him 2 decades ago. Dads are awesome.

For the future, my suggestion would be to put the sealer in a paint sprayer, since it is so thin. That would have made your job so much easier and faster. You can rent them from Lowes or Home Depot . Or buy one, they are not expensive. And girl, you need to ALWAYS wear a hat outside when you are gardening, even on a cloudy day.

Becky, I think it was very smart to seal those cedar beds. They really are the prettiest raised beds I’ve ever seen!
Becky that landscape fabric will easily last 6 or 8 years if its not exposed to direct sunlight.
Never had issues with cutting unless using a dull box cutter. One clip then shears or kitchen scissors.
So great you found that sealer. We were told to seal on year 2 with cedar or teak. It breaths first year and dries a bit.

I'm doing it the other way: now my mom gets older, I help her a lot in her garden. We both love gardening, so it's an amazing way to spend time together and help her with all the heavy stuff she can't do anymore.
This afternoon, I've pruned her conifers, and next week I'll help her weeding.
It's my way off saying thank you for all the things she does for me when I'm ill and admitted to the hospital. And that happens quite a lot.

I purchased a start of strawberry mint from a local green house this year. It’s a really unique plant it smells like ripe strawberries and tastes like mint with a tiny hint of strawberry. I’m excited to try it fresh in lemonade once there’s enough to harvest!

That's the same brand that gardener supply uses on the veg's trugs. We have had one for 8 years and with moving last year decided to reseal the bed since we have to empty it anyway. Made the bed look like new and we anticipate getting at least another 3-4 years from it all because of the sealant. Good luck!

My mom always used landscape fabric. From what i remember it works really well at keeping weeds out.
Next time, use pump garden sprayer for applying stain, then brush. Love your family support.
Question 🙋♀️ if the purpose was to seal the wood then is it really worth it if you didn’t seal the inside? I would think it would do more harm since water can’t evaporate from both sides
I do think sealing would be beneficial but only if done on all sides. Right?

Love how your parents and family all help! That’s how my parents always were too! I learned so much from them with all their help! Your doing such an amazing job that will benefit you throughout the years! Oh, and that strawberry lemonade looked absolutely delicious! I’m definitely making that this summer!

I would totally leave the landscape fabric down over the winter, I don’t understand what you would take it up? Love this video, you are very fortunate to have your parents help so much! 😊
My God Becky…that’s a huge, huge garden! I can only wish….I’m glad you put down the fabric bc the weeding would be astronomical! I’m not sure if you mentioned in an early video, but is the amount of raised beds enough for growing food for a year? I can’t remember if you said that or not. When that comes to harvest it’s going to be just beautiful! It’s like a Solarium!! You could have people or children come and learn how to garden…Lol….just a thought that crossed my mind!! Lol….
We are installing 24 raised beds in June and I’ve been planning to seal them. Thanks for doing the research for me. 😊

I discovered the use of a garden sprayer when applying stain. It cut the time down by 2/3. I had someone brushing behind me if there were any runs.
Two things my grandma always did if she was making starts for her garden, pumpkin seed she soaked overnight in rain water. And my favorite part was ripping both sides off corrugated cardboard to make transplanting plants that didn't do well being transplanted... pumpkins.. She kept her pots when she bought starts and would use the cardboard ( the grand kids contribution) to line the soil block/pot so that once she put in ground the cardboard would compost. The one time she didn't do this step due to listing to I've of her son's 😂 she had no pumpkins.... When she wanted/needed one he had to provide it to her. 😅 We never smiled the cardboard that I recall after that.

What I like to do with homemade lemonade is add lemon drop moonshine and make "grown up lemonade"! Yum, it's always a hit when I take it to a summer party!
