A sabot was originally a wooden disc that was bound to a cannonball to improve the gas seal and improve performance. The British Army later developed the discarding sabot anti-tank round which consisted of a heavy core and a lighter, discardable section, to provide the gas seal. The word sabot is derived from the French word for a wooden clog. Fun fact, the word sabot is where we get sabotage from. French artisans would throw their wooden shoes into machinery in order to protest their replacement by machines, much as the Luddites did in the UK.
Cocktail wise, that looks really good. As you said, a combination of a White Lady and a French 75. I wasn't planning on doing cocktails this Christmas, but I might just put this on the menu.
