  • There is so much history to discover in your local cemetery. And in this video I interview Nic Hodges of the Victorian Barry Experience who does guided walks through Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery in Barry to find out why they are so popular.
We discover the history of the place itself and what we can find out about the history of the town simply from looking around it. We talk about famous people who are buried there such as the journalist Gareth Jones and their stories. And we talk about unique and unusual monuments.
We also decifer the secret messages monumental sculptures tell us about the person whose grave they mark. It really is an insight.
This video is an episode in the History On Your Doorstep series for Bro Radio. Written, presented and published by Welsh author and historian; Graham Loveluck-Edwards. Author of the 'Legends and Folklore of Glamorgan' series of books and 'Historic Pubs of Wales' . They are published by Candy Jar Books LTD (Cardiff). In this series of short videos, I examine a moment in Glamorgan local history. I hope you enjoy them. And if you do, please subscribe to this channel and share them on social media.

Hi Graham I really like your channel well done - Just an idea but can you do a piece on the 11 or so Children and teachers mowed down by a German stucca bomber in their playground WW2, most people don't seem to know about it as you know there is a memorial garden at the cemetery but they never get a mention anywhere thanks butty, Paul
