@@thunder_heads Idk why someone would continue to drink booze if it turns them into a hateful violent asswipe. I guess they have more addictive personalities than most.
i mean wake ends up using this against him super cynically for his performance review so idk lol. dont trust anything in this movie, even wholesome moments, it all leads to madness
Them laughing together at his old timey stories was heart breaking, that’s likely all Wake ever wanted. One of his young workers to drink with him , and enjoy his company.
Oh no, I think you forgot how he intentionally gaslighted and abused Winslow to drive him mad, made him do almost all the hard work only to write later in her log book that Winslow is incompetent and should be sacked without pay.
@@MaevaStardust even after doing that, I just believe with all my heart that Wake is nothing more than a deeply damaged man who’s grown a cold heart over the years. These types of scenes show that he genuinely enjoyed Howard’s company, but through his psychotic disorders and madness, he could barely show it and decided to break him down the only way he knows how.
Something genuinely nice about seeing them laugh and relax together, even if they are drunk 🙂 I also like how they swap smokes. Ephraim with Tom's Pipe, and Tom with Ephraim's cigarettes. That's a nice touch to show their trust in one another, even just for a minute :)
I really hope that all the comments in Wake's logbook were post-confession, like he was trying to ruin him for a "good" reason. Because otherwise he's behaving all friendly in this scene knowing he was going to be fired.
You guys notice that Winslow is smoking Tom's pipe, and Tom is smoking cigarettes as Winslow usually does? Makes me wonder if the whole "they are both one person" theory is true
Aidan Dupuy I took it more as an indicator that they were becoming friendlier with each other. Feelings in these movies are expressed more often with visuals than words.
Tom is the siren. sirens can shapeshift...it was why he/she was so offended about winslow not liking his cooking. and why he/she killed one of the gulls since they are basically part of the siren eco system
I like to think that Thomas was only trying to screw “Ephraim Winslow” over after this night. When he realizes the reason for all of this was because he killed the seagull. I like to think this one night of friendly drinking and enjoying each other’s company was truly genuine. Then it all went to Hell.
Winslow's clearly taken aback by Wake's name, which seems to imply that he really did kill Ephraim and take his identity - so that's probably real, at least.
I believe this movie could have been a comedy just like fear n loathing in Las Vegas. It would have been a hit they're great together. They should make another movie like a stoner movie
Watching them get along and actually enjoy each other’s company makes the movie more sad to me

Same, there's a lot of foreshadowing in this movie.
Hector Gyatso what foreshadowing
@@adamdem7997 Tom Wake says "I wish an axe go right through with me head." which is foreshadowing him getting an axe swung into his head.
Also when he’s talking about why he left as a timberman, “foreman thought you were too dangerous to hold an axe” or some sort.

Anyone have an idea why they both laughed at the “catholic “ quip ?
At a guess? No one is freakier in bed than the poor, repressed bastards in toxic religions that treat sex as a crime.
because catholics are hypocrits. Sinning the fck out of everything and then simply confessing.
Yankee Americans probably. Back when Catholics were disliked.
