Look our people where always very close, Una fatsa una ratsa you know, even though we took our seperate ways from antiquity, we can't just deny we are very culturally close, at one point in antiquity we where essentially one "nation" even though national concioussness at that point had not been similar to what it is today. However we share a lot of the same blood and its not just South Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Ancona that had Greek colonies. Rome's foundation can be traced back to Troy, which where Greeks essentially and Greece. Also to Etruria which was hellenized. Generally all the European coasts of Europe where hellenized with the exception of parts of south Spain where the Phoenicians got to first. Illyrians where hellenized too. Italy however due to distance and importance had been hellenized way more than the rest aformentioned areas. Samnites and Rome had also been hellenized. To say that we were only "hellenes" would be untrue. Its our common ancestry that got further intertwined with the Roman Empire. Thus it can be said that Macedonia is as much your legacy as it mine (that i live there). After all the war against Persian was a fight of the West or to state it better Europe against the East (Persia). Macedonia was not just a Greek state. It was the Greek state that saved the Greek nation in a period that the Greeks retreated in all directions (Balkans from the Illyrians and Thracians, Asia from the Persians, Italy mainly from the Bruttians, Sicily and Iberia from the Carthaginians etc). Macedonia protected the Greek nation and spread the Greek language and culture as far as India. The reason that the whole eastern Mediterranean spoke greek for centuries it was the rise of Macedonia.

For me, Alexander the Great (Megas Alexandros), was the greateast ruler and conqueror of all times. His Macedonian Empire is my favourite, he had the world at his feet, at that time, with the undiscovered world largely, he almost ruled everything all known.

Some history:

Before we do an analysis, we need to take into account that before the Panhellenic idea was established, Greece was organized in states ("polis kratos"). All states were autonomous or formed coalitions, but they had common language and religion with small admixtures depending on the geomorphology and the interactions of the various states. It is also true that Macedonia was considered Hellenic territory from the linguistic and religious standpoints.
Αccording to Herodotus (484-425 B.C), Macedonia was a Hellenic population of Doric origin which started from the location of Fthiotis in Greece during the age of Deucalion, while there are concrete references about Macedonia in Ancient Greek Mythology. The name Macedonian, itself, in the Ancient Greek Language means lean.
Beyond the written proof of the Hellenic origin of Macedonians, we need to stress out:
- The participation of ancient Macedonia in the Olympic Games of antiquity (prior to 500 B.C).
- Τhe religious beliefs of ancient Macedonians was the same as that of the rest of Greece (12 Gods). This can be proven by archaeological findings and can be easily understood by observing the names of Macedonian Cities such as Dion (honoring Zeus), Apollonea (honoring Apollo) and others.
- The dialect was Hellenic as it can be observed from archaeological findings while a portion of words was adopted by Thracians and Illyrians. During the 4th Century B.C the Attic dialect was adopted(books.google.gr/books?id=QsJ183uUDkMC&pg=PA94&redir_esc=y&hl=el#v=onepage&q&f=false).
By the time the Panhellenic idea was first proposed by philosophers Gorgias and Isocrates (380 B.C), Macedonia was ~100% in modern Greek territory. Αfter the conference of Corinth in 337 B.C, during which Philip II reigned, the Hellenic coalition was first organized attempt for a Hellenic state.
The territory of Skopje was named Paeonia during the ancient times. When the Roman empire was established, a new administrative territory including all Skopje, large part of today's Macedonia and also a northern part was named by them Macedonia.

As far as I can see, throughout time, Macedonia's ~15% was in today's Skopje according to the video, starting from GREEK territory. During Philip the 2nd's reign, the Greek territory expanded including ~40% of today's Skopje territory and almost 50% of today's Bulgaria as DEPENDENT territories (el.wikipedia.org/wiki/Συνέδριο_Κορίνθου#/media/File:Map_Macedonia_336_BC-en.svg).
Strabo, the ancient geographer, said: "Macedonia is Hellas" (Estin oun Ellas kai i Makedonia).

Macedonia has undeniable ancient Greek origins as has been briefly discussed above. Skopje's ~40% was incorporated in the Ancient Hellenic state by Philip the 2nd as a dependent state. Therefore, Skopje cannot have ANY claim on ancient Macedonian history. They are as much Macedonians as were the Egyptians, Persians or Indians conquered by Alexander the Great. The central is mostly plain. Western and southwestern is locked by the pindus mountain range, with peaks until 2637m. Southeast is Mt Olympous, 2917m. Eastern has a small plain surrounded by small mountains.

Now I understand that you may want to call yourself Macedonian because your ancestors lived there alongside Greeks for many years (not in the ancient times) but you have to accept like your country’s government did that you people living in the country called “ North Macedonia” are not related to ancient Macedonians or Alexander the Great. The modern day Macedonians (fyrom) are a product of that region’s long and twisted history. To hate on these people is to hate the region itself and what it has meant to anyone who has ever laid claim to these lands. They represent the ever changing borders of southeast Europe.
When people talk with absolute certainty about the countries and people of this Balkan region; it should be dismissed and not accepted as fact. The perspectives are unlimited when borders change between people of very similar cultures and ethnicities for as long as they have.
Yet there are a few truths we should all acknowledge:
- The Balkan and Greek lands have changed hands many times throughout history. Each region has conquered another of the regions at some point.
- Current fyrom lands were part of ancient Macedonia.
- the Macedonian kingdom derived from a region that was not Greek like the southern Athens based Greece, but undoubtedly heavily influenced by the strong Greek culture - including language especially.
Let’s all take a step back with the hate on a group of people who interestingly enough are one of the only groups to not invade other Balkan lands in modern history.

- The current country of North Macedonia was called in antiquity Paeonia while the north part was Dardania. The only regions that North Macedonia has of the ancient Macedonia was Pelagonia and North Lyncestis , regions who were partly Macedonian.
- The ancient Macedonians were not hellinised since they had always been Doric Greek. They spoke a Doric Greek dialect ( E.g check Pella curse table ) and later adopted Attik which was the lingua Franca of the time and the ancestor of koine. They worshipped the Greek pantheon and Greek heroes while they used a common Greek calendar. They participated in Panhellenic games only for Greeks.They were always part of the Greek genealogies in every different genealogy still exists to this day. Lastly and most importantly they always identified themselves as Greek and never as non Greek.
Modern Slavs of North Macedonia are completely irrelevant to the ancient Macedonian heritage since Slavs migrated to the region in 6th AD.
