So before these videos were released - TOP hinted at a secret website that when people went to had all kinda of pictures and journal writings, etc that explained a lot of the storyline - so what you're hearing from everyone is stuff that some people knew before they watched the videos too - so Tyler provides clues to the story in hidden ways
"East is up" are directions to escape Dema - if you reverse the beginning of the video - you can hear something like "We are banditos. We denounce vialism. You will escape Dema and head true East." - Vialism is the religion in Dema where bishops control your thoughts (like contained in a vial)
With Levitate- you'll be rewinding quite a bit - all good for that
What's wild is this was the second single released for Trench and it would make absolutely no sense to anyone who wasn't a big top fan - somehow their label went for it

Yes, Levitate is very bar heavy. So you might want to have the lyrics handy as a reference. I have no issues with pausing and taking your time with the breakdowns. Levitate is a short song, but there’s a lot to unpack!

Three years ago I watched my very first reaction video because I couldn't understand Nico and the Niners. I loved plenty of TOP songs, but I never knew there was this whole other world going on behind the scenes until I tried to figure out what this song was about. Good job on the analysis.

You did great!! The parallel with the Divergent books is a good one. The citizens of Dema are taught to fear the outside world and the Banditos as a form of control. This video is very reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984 (including the reference to razor blade stores). Dema is a walled city devoid of color and hope. The Bishops exert control and Tyler even made up a religion (Vialism) that they practice, which glorifies suicide. So that is why the Banditos try to help people escape.
You have the color symbolism correct (Red - Blurryface/Bishops, Black - control/oppression, Yellow - Banditos/hope). Fun fact - there’s an actual form of color blindness that makes it hard to see yellow.
I love how you smiled when you recognized the secret bro handshake from Stressed Out. Even though all of this takes place in Tyler’s mind, his strong bond with Josh breaks through. I see it as a tie to the outside world.
The 2 kids at the end will reappear in a future video. It’s fun to see all the ways Tyler connects the storyline.

@@zack_reactsthe other interesting thing you may not have noticed is the yellow flower from Jumpsuit. At the beginning of the video, Tyler puts it in a small drawer and you see other yellow flowers in there 🌼 It’s likely an indication that he has tried to escape multiple times. In addition to color symbolism, the concept of cycles is important within the lore. It’s hard to break free.

I think "Start a concert, a complete diversion", is also call back to the Heathens music video when they start a concert in the prison. "Start a mob and you can be quite certain, we'll win but not everyone will get out." At the end of the video when the guards come, everyone has escaped except for Tyler.

    Backwards speak at the beginning:
"We are banditos. You will leave Dema at true east. We renounce Vialism."
I also love how the banditos use fire (natural light) while the bishops use neon.
Neon represents the Neon Gravestones people get in Dema when they commit suicide. It also shows how Dema lies to the people.
The song "Bandito" references this, calling it a "heatless fire".

Loved hearing your thoughts again! Their first concert back after the hiatus, where they performed Trench songs for the first time was called 'A Complete Diversion' ('start a concert, a complete diversion').

Agreed. Will be good to get caught up on the lore journey before the new album comes out … which I’m hoping we will start getting some lore drops soon! I thought maybe we would get a pre-release single this summer.
The sound of Scaled and Icy (SAI) is much different, and that was intentional since Tyler wrote it during quarantine. And it has a unique spin on the lore. I consider it a “pandemic detour” but it allowed Tyler to add new elements to the narrative.
The next album (which was initially going to be released after Trench) will conclude the storyline. And Tyler said it will be much less vague. He wants to pull all of the elements of the narrative together. But I suspect there will still be layers of meaning.

Great reaction! Yes, now you get it. And you got quite a lot! Just know we're ok with frequent pausing, even if you just want to write stuff down. Saul good, man:)
Yes, the nine bishops all represent a different struggle. Each one appears in the lyrics from a song on Blurryface, but not overtly. I'll find u a concise list and reply with it. So kudos to you on those connections.
Someone already mentioned the multiple flowers equating with multiple escape attempts. Just know lots of details repeat themselves in TOP's songs like Failed Perimeter Escape, the Few, the Proud, & the Emotional, etc... The other little nugget I like is the neon light imagery in this one. You see the red tube the bishops are forging, how it looks like a huge syringe. There's the blue neon lights that are arranged like the city of Dema in Tyler's room in the beginning. And the bishops are holding a ceremony around an inverted TOP logo. Up is down and all that. What's cool, too, is there is a lot of supplemental material to go along with all this, like a coded map of Dema showing East is Up and where the break in the wall is. The site dma.org will help.
So many songs will tie back into the storyline and you're doing a great job picking it up! Keep 'em comin! |-/ 💛

Tyler know about the hour Jesus died. He puts a lot religious facts in his music, also real things happened to himself and Josh. Working at actual razor blade store for money, or selling cells I think but not sure....

Not that Tyler is into hermeticism, being quite Christian, but I find it rather ironic that 9 (& 3) = EXTREMELY heavy/crucial number to hermetic magick.
