the shadowy figure is the first look at Blurryface - you can see that he's in control, then he's gone in the next album, Blurryface will get a name and you will see more of him in this song, you can see as Josh beats the drums - the car breaks apart more and more until tyler can finally escape - i think sort of showing how music can help him escape these places - at the end when he's back in the car again, it's like showing it's a cycle for him - one day he might beat it, but the next day he's going to go through the same issues again - you'll notice cycles in their music at you see it more and more
You're interpretation is always valid, never wrong. Sometimes we won't have the same interpretation, but that's how it is. I often have multiple interpretations, one for the lyrucs (which is often about the music as an entity / mental health), and another for the music video, which is often more focused on lore / Dema / depression. But there is often overlap in my interpretations.
Tyler has said in an interview that he started practicing focusing on lyric writing early on in his music career and attempted writing poetry for lyrics, but discovered that they were much to long and didn’t work when he tried to sing them, so he tried to SAY them in a way that would fit timing instead and was shocked to realize he was rapping, and thus his style was born. Kind of amazing he discovered this talent almost on accident. HeavyDirtySoul is off of the blurryface album, and this music video was the last to be released for blurryface before the next album, Trench, which is where the trilogy that is next is from. It’s mind blowing that they can not only connect songs but whole separate albums since this video acts almost as a teaser or prequel for what’s next. Can’t wait for you to jump into the trilogy and Dema lore
Love the notebook. Notes are good for our boys….and you are getting it. I love that some people blow off twenty one pilots because all they’ve ever heard was Stressed Out….but there’s so much more to them. I’m so excited for what we are gonna show you!!! Keep up the great reactions!!✌️😊🌼☠️👽
This song i hear as Tyler begging for the music to save him. In the video, the car represents his life, or his mind. The music is powerful and essential to Tyler. Josh represents the music. As he hits the drums, the car falls apart. Tyler jumps out, saved for a moment. This is a cycle. A new day, a new battle.
Cycles. Starts the day in a operational vehicle, which falls apart throughout the day, only to start anew the next day. Since you have watched this, Jumpsuit is the only song you should check out next 😊
Awesome breakdown with the lyrics- yeah it helps to have the lyrics near by when analyzing TOP. One definite thing to know when watcing TOP mvs, nothing is by accident. Everything is on purpose and done with purpose. (And they're like that live, too. And for this one live he adds the screams we all love!) You'll catch a lot more if you rewatch a few times. And at the end, he's just sitting in silence. All their music ties together. Great breakdown 👌 |-/ ❤🖤❤🤍
In terms of how it leads into the Trench trilogy, this mv is the first time we see Blurryface actually manifest as a person, the cloaked figure in the front of the car. At the time the video came out we didn't know who that was though. The band introduced the 'Lore' of Trench via a hidden website and things like codes the fans had to crack. It was pretty wild, I will find something that desribes it and link it for you at some point Zack. Back to the video, Blurryface is Tyler's insecurities, and in this video, Blurry is in charge of Tyler and his destiny but Josh helps him break free. Some things to take fowards when you start the Trench trilogy are: remember this is all a metaphor for Tyler's mind - the control Blurryface (ie his insecurities) has over Tyler's mind - the concept of cycles, cycles of time, cycles of mental health - and Josh's role as an ever present steadfast wingman Tyler can rely on. A couple of background things of the Lore as well - Blurryface has a name - Nico. He is one of nine Bishops that rule over the dystopian city of Dema. Outside of Dema is Trench, and in Trench is the base camp of the Banditos. That's enough to understand what you see in the next few videos but if you enjoy concepts and storytelling in music, the detail we were given about the Universe of Trench apart from the songs and videos is crazy and you can dig into it as deep as you like. There are plenty of websites and youtube videos we can direct you to. Or just ask, I for one am a total nerd when it comes to Trench Lore! 😆
You did a great job as a first reaction. Yes, that was the first time we saw Blurryface. Tyler uses the car as a metaphor quite a bit. Here he is trapped in the car (his mind) going in circles in a self-destructive manner. Josh is Tyler’s rock and anchor and he doesn’t flinch when the car almost hits him multiple times. In fact, he pounds even harder on the drums to help Tyler break free. Cycles are important within the lore. The music (and Josh) helps Tyler break free, but when you are battling depression or other mental health struggles, the battle starts fresh each day. And the drum kit catching on fire is symbolic of how we can unintentionally cause damage to things around us when we are battling mental health issues. This is the first track on the Blurryface album, but it was the last single released. This video served as a bridge to the Trench album. Pretty sure Josh’s hair being bright yellow was intentional. Yellow is the color for the Trench era. The Trench Trilogy is epic! The videos were filmed in Iceland and Ukraine. Jumpsuit is one of my favorites!
Oh I love your notes!! I do the same!!🤩🤓... TOP narrative and lyrics, and visuals (everything!!) are soo interesting... Ive been a fan of TOP for many years and as a student of art, literature and culture I've made many works at university using their songs and videos as examples, etc ... Layers and layers of meaning you can find!!
Hey Zack, it’s always a great way to start my day with a TØP reaction of yours. Excited for the trilogy next, most people say about Trench, “this doesn’t sound like TØP, but yet it sounds just like them lol” anyway, listen to the Clique(you are a member now) and they will always tell you what you need to hear to be informed correctly. I always say, if George Lucas can create Star Wars with fictional characters(good and bad), and cities and planets and such, who said Tyler can’t do the same thing with music and Blurryface, Trench,Banditos, bishops, etc. anyway have a great day
⚠️ Before you go too much further down the rabbit hole and into all the lore and storyline... You should go back quick and do "Ode to Sleep". It's their kind of origin story of rags to riches, where they came from to where they're at. It's the beginning that started it all.
Great reaction. You did an amazing job for a first listen. Here are my thoughts: To me, the end of this song (your laugh was great, lol) is similar to car radio, where we go back to where we started. Here, he's back in the car (silent and thinking), and in Car Radio, his hair is back as he repeats the chorus. To me that is showing that all of this is in his mind, and he is showing/sharing his thoughts. You might notice on your second viewing of the video, but the driver in the hood will make more sense as you delve into the lore, then the second time we see the front of the car, there is no driver at all. To me, that is so profound as Tyler is in his vehicle, but needs help to get control of it. Can you help my heavy dirty soul?
morning = calm and good...then, as the day turns into night, it all falls apart...he references this (morning/day/night) often in his music.
Don’t ever stress about pausing. I don’t mind it, I just love seeing more twenty one pilots ❤
The reason I watch is for you to pause and reflect, keep going… more Twenty One Pilots ❤

love how closely you are listening to the lyrics! I love the live version of this even more because tyler really sreams at the end
NOW LIVE AT FOX THEATER LUVE VERSION...❤
Definitely references to Car Radio... If you look closely, you'll notice the car he's in has no radio!

Yes! ...thats the intro to Blurryface...nice...time for Jumpsuit!
It was forever before I realized he was saying "...from me..." rather than "...for me..." -- much different :)
Your mind is immaculate I would never have been able to break it all down like that on the first listen
Starts the days driving a functional car around the track, by the end of the day the car has disintegrated as night falls, next day starts all over

You need headphones luv✌️😊🦋
They're sitting on my controller in this video. But why? Do I have ugly ears?
@@zack_reacts no darling. It just sounds so much better with headphones. Sometimes the music will pan on one side or the other. Just a suggestion.😁
I don’t know if you are right but it made sense to me 😊 I really like your 21 Pilot’s reactions.
Perhaps it’s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off ‘Twist and Shout’ scene you were thinking of?!
Everytime I see your pen I chant “addict with a pen! Do addict with a pen!”

Have a cookie for understanding him in the beginning 🍪
What kind of dog do you have? I have a cattle dog mix.
