I’ve had this watch for over a year. I put this piece through the paces like you wouldn’t believe. I work in foodservice, selling to chains mostly, in the seafood protein department and I have found myself elbow deep in totes of ice and salmon and realized that a) I was wearing my wristwatch and b) that I had made some poor life choices that led me be a fishmonger. Now, bearing that in mind, I also realized that, in spite of my poor judgement otherwise, I had stumbled upon the perfect watch. It’s not for meeting with clients for sure but it does beat any other field watch I can think of. I had a few Hamilton field watches, they’re gone now (stopped wearing them) and some Seiko field style watches (stopped wearing those, gone now too) and whenever I’m going to be qc inspecting product on any given day I’m wearing this watch. What don’t I like about it? That date window. Why did they put that date window in there? I could do without it entirely if it’s not going to be legible. Monocoque case? Score, what a way to lower the profile and remove areas of potential penetration by water and fish entrails. Eco drive? Again, brilliant. The capacitor is supposed to have an expected 80% capacity after 20 years of use. What? 20 years? That’s right, I said 20 years. If I have to change the capacitor at the 30 year mark I’m good. I’ll start saving now, a dollar a year. Sapphire? Brilliant! 200m water resistance? Unbelievable! Scratch resistant? Looks like new and my dress watch looks like I ran it through a lawnmower at a gravel pit but cost me ten times as much. It’s discontinued now unfortunately for those of you that don’t have one, find one on eBay or Amazon if you can. If you want a watch that will never let you down, never give you up, or desert you (god bless Rick Astley) then remortgage your house and get one of these. It will make you feel invincible. You won’t be, but you’ll feel that way. I can guarantee that once you put this on you’ll feel like you could stop a train. You won’t be able to, but you’ll feel like it. If you do try then your mangled body will have a pristine Promaster tough for the paramedics to fawn over. Get one of these watches, or wait and they’ll show up on the used Circuit over the next 20 years because they’re invincible.
:D Thanks for the very comprehensive feedback! I don't know; I think fishmongering is a noble pursuit. It's pretty much got to be the world's 2nd or 3rd oldest profession. Thanks again!
I finally got one of these. Found one second hand. It's great so far. The only down-side is the weight, as they are pretty hefty, but that's partly because I am used to titanium analogs and G-Shock digitals which are both very light. I think the Promaster Tough looks better in person than in photos and videos too.
I have an Inox, The blue camo one. I really like it but when I put it on after wearing this citizen watch the hands look dainty to me. This very tough citizen grows on you and you like it better and better as you wear it!
Great video. Getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these from the same seller--your unboxing video for this watch was extremely helpful and I feel confident buying from them. I've wanted this watch for a long time and I'm glad I didn't indulge the "need" a long time ago when prices were much higher. Thank you.
Good to hear those initial scratches in your unboxing video were an anomaly. I'm really liking the simplicity of this watch. It's badass in its own way.
Hey, it’s great to see you are back. I own one of the INOX watches and enjoy wearing it as my weekend quartz beater watch. You are chipping away at my watch snob prejudice to buying an Ecodrive. I am almost convinced. The Tough looks to be what I like in a tool watch; rugged but not ugly like a G-Shock. Cheers.
Hey! Long time no see! Glad to see you back. Yes, going from "doing things" to "making sure others do things" is a big paradigm shift, and I sometimes pine for the days when I worked hands-on, but life goes on and brings us along. I can see why this watch is becoming your favourite one of all time: surely it has lots of qualities. I recently fell in love with a $40 Lorus which gives me a similar feeling, with the due differences of course (mineral crystal, no monocoque case, 50 m WR...), but I can perfectly relate. Waiting for the next video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Luca! Glad to be back! Hopefully I can keep up some momentum and get some more videos produced soon. Yes, my job has changed considerably. I wish I wasn't spending so much time in the office but, as you point out, life goes on and I'm adjusting and probably becoming better for it.
They should have moved the entire date window into the outer ring where the indexes are, instead of cutting across the edge. A day-date window would have been nice too, for the classic 70-80s Japanese tech aesthetic.
Quick question, are you sure this is the pro master tough as all of the pro master tough citizen watches I can find online have big numbers around the dial and are rated for 300meters depth? Still a lovely watch though!
Yes, this is most definitely the Promaster Tough: www.citizenwatch.com/us/en/product/BN0211-50E.html The original Citizen Promaster Tough had large numerals, 300m water resistance and a titanium case. That watch has been discontinued for quite a few years, however. If I recall correctly, it was sold mainly in the UK. I don’t think it was ever available on a retail basis here in the US.
I think that is exactly how they would be opened. Some kind of powerful vacuum device to pull the crystal. I’ve never seen it done but it is the only way I can figure.
At the twelve o clock there is a little gap, when it ever needs servicing/new capacitor/battery the bezel is lifted from the front of the watch. I'm hoping mine never needs that though!

Thanks again!
That was one very good comment!
I have this watch and I love it too.
Thanks for this review and your initial review. Helped me in my decision making. Just got mine today and it’s awesome.
It’s still maybe my favorite watch.
Enjoy yours!

They’re definitely not light.
Would you do a 3 year follow up on this at some point? Don't often see videos of such long term reviews.
I can do that.
Excellent video. Thank you for your opinion

nice video man and one of my all time favourite watches, it's sort of understated but at the same time carries something unique also, love it!!
Thank you!
I only wish Citizen would enlarge the date wheel on its Eco Drive watches.
I agree. They’re pretty much useless.

What happens when the solar battery dies? Is it replaceable?
@@ccooper8040 I believe it is replaceable.
@@ccooper8040 it’s a replaceable capacitor

Oh yeah. It looks like the Inox. Please do a comparison vid.
Definitely.
For these types of cases, can they be opened for service? How? Can the crystal be pulled out with a suction device?
I think that is exactly how they would be opened. Some kind of powerful vacuum device to pull the crystal. I’ve never seen it done but it is the only way I can figure.

You were still at work at 8:00 PM? Hope that doesn't keep up for very long!
I was doing some other stuff. But I’m rarely out by 5:00.
Scratches give character.
There is one on a Grey market eBay store l isted for 158 and I watched it and just got an offer for 122 . So I am considering it.
Tougher than any watch!
Might be the door. His window is open and the air pressure is moving the door.
Make video about RADO. Thank you
Gold one?
