Dude! I was a flight instructor for thirty years and often explained to the students why they would have a really good flight after having a bad one the day before. They didn't stop learning when they got out of the aircraft, they learned by thinking about it. My son and I used to ride pedal unicycles in parades and he just got a Euc and he is going through the very same thing, and is cognizant of it. He is also a talented kayaker so has good balance and things appears to be going well. You are an excellent instructor and appreciate your sharing you professional knowledge as you do! Best of luck!
Thank you for your advises. I'm trying from Argentina with an Inmotion V8-S EUC. Still learning. I bought it last week. I dont try in street untill have got more muscle memory. May be next month I'm going to get out riding in the streets. Thk U 🙏🙏🙏🤗 hugs
It’s so true about the equipment. The other day I was riding my unicycle maybe just 12 miles an hour because I knew it was windy, but before I know it Augusta wind kept pushing me towards the curb but right before I slow down and tried to pull away from it I still hit the curb and it flipped me. So even though I thought it was safe and knew everything about riding the unexpected still can happen. But the main thing is I didn’t get hurt I was fully geared up. So George is right it’s worth the extra time to have full equipment on especially your helmet and hand protection. Thanks George for the video it was awesome keep up the good work 😊
I almost shit a brick when you mentioned the phone game. I just started playing Pokémon Go and Ingress prime to add objective to my rides. I immediately noticed my ability to turn around on a dime without even looking, and also navigate while looking at my phone. I can totally agree with you there.
Thanks for the video! One of my fellow BAESK8 EUC riders is a semi-pro juggler and he has these LED juggling clubs which are amazing and are awesome to see at night. He rides a 16X and when he is on the wheel and using the LED juggle clubs man it is a sight to see. I am totally with you on the muscle memory and protective gear. I have improved so much since I focused on getting in miles as many times a week as possible. I started in protected parks and open areas without cars for a few hundred miles. Once I acquired the needed mounting, dismounting, bent-knee, slow-riding and fast-riding skills I then started hitting San Francisco streets. Now that I have put another few hundred miles on actual streets I feel good riding around on them with cars around. I have been hitting pot holes, man-hole covers and various other obstacles on purpose to build up the muscle memory and enforce proper riding technique. Now, I can just step outside my door and head off wherever in San Francisco and not worry I don't have the skills to handle the terrain or traffic. The near daily practice was the key. It also doesn't hurt I have Clark Pads on along with spiked pedals which really help keep you on the wheel.
Thats what I always tell everyone that learn to ride an EUC. You need to make the body and your mind to be possible to gain memories. The memories help for the next unknown move. In everyday life its known as experience. Also body (muscles and mind) have some time to learn that. Its in the back of your head.. in your spine. Think of that few seconds. True or false? =)
Absolutely, i have saved myself just instinctively from so many potential falls just because my mind and body reacts faster than my concious self ever could have
These improvements are a bit weird, well I guess I should say it's better than expected. My balance has improved a lot. Then I got a lighter wheel and it was a lot easier to handle, I thought it was just that and the bigger wheel and susp (s18). But then I got my v12 back, took some adjustment but still things have improved which I like
I wonder if archery would make for a good alternative to juggling for this exercise... because that's what I have in mind. Mounted archery with EUC... I just have to find a nice forest road where I could practice safely.
Would be interesting. The two things that give me pause though are the sudden uncontrolled release of energy will be really hard to stabilize yourself with unless your a master archer. I know trying to throw something forward while riding is extremely difficult. Hard to get any power without throwing yourself off balance. And riding with sharp pointy objects is probably a bad idea in general.
@@GoGeorge I might not be a master archer (more of a backyard practitioner, drawing inspiration from kyudo and samurai), however with a low poundage bow the 'recoil' is barely noticeable. The vibrations might be more of an issue, but I'll have to see. For now, I'm just learning the basics of EUC - I decided to go straight for a big wheel, skipping a 'training wheel', and so far my progress isn't super fast. As for safety, I guess it's a matter of progression - gotta start with the weakest bow, LARP arrows and full attention not to fall on the arrows (since the nock side could be dangerous as well, and falling on an arrow could break it resulting in dangerous sharp splinters). And of course - make sure no other people are in danger, and wear full protective gear.
I think riding backwards has just worked out for me. Cant tell you why apart from the practice, but before I couldn't do it and now I can, well on the Ninebot One E+ at least.
I've been riding for a good few months but I must be messing up my posture somehow because you make riding look easy and I'm still struggling a little bit,
Hi George, Great video and great advice, total agreement with everything you say. I’m just 2 months in with my first EUC (Tesla), riding almost every day here (winter) just to increase my skills, and the results, my progress, I am really happy with, but it takes time and miles, and sleep as you point out. I think the most interesting thing about an EUC is the satisfaction of acquiring these muscle memory and new brain connection pathways. The continuous fine tuning of these pathways is clear as a bell to see. Also, I try to ride on as many different surfaces as possible as that really engages your information processing. Riding so much on variable snowy , icy surfaces in the winter here, has really accelerated my progress I believe. Learning to ride backwards is coming up soon. Actually had a dream I was doing that last night, and it was going pretty well ,in the dream! Thanks for your great videos and advice!🙂 -steve
Thanks for watching :) thats a great point about different road surfaces. Might have to do a video about the different terrain you might encounter while riding!!
Hey George, my name is Tony, and I have been watching your channel and trying to learn how to ride my new EUC. I don't know anyone near me that rides an EUC, so I am trying to learn this on my own. Your instruction really helped me gaining confidence with riding my EUC. I have a Veteran Sherman as my first EUC... lol.. ya ya ya, I know it is not a good EUC for beginners. But I figured, I don't want to get bored with a smaller one after a few months, so I went for the big "Kahuna" !!!!.... I just subscribed to your channel, because I think you are a good instructor and take the time to explained what to look for and how to be a better rider... Keep it up, I look forward to more of your instructional videos. Cheers... stay safe in this pandemic time. Tony
Thanks for watching Tony! glad you find the videos helpful 😀 The Sherman is definitely a BEAST that will take a lot of work for you to tame but im sure you will conquer it and be zooming around in no time!!
Tony: It's now 3 years after your post. I am thinking about buying a Sherman Max as my first EUC for the same reason you had 3 years ago. If you were to go back in time and make the purchase decision again, would you still buy the Sherman as your first wheel? I am half-thinking about starting with a Begode A2 but it is the Sherman Max that I covet.
Man... thank you for the content .... i got a cut off on the ninebot one A 1. It is a very primary wheel 12 Mph but it was scarry... all my fault . No gear and I over ride the beep just to drain the battery. Battery was under 10%. I will never ride again without gear even on the ninebot A1.
George, cars in LA do not want you in the middle of the road, they will hit you. Maybe this works where you are at but not in a busy urban street . Like your content
Just curious question george as far as muscle memory, when you get the basics down and you know how to ride the euc already, are the leg muscles relaxed? or are they clipping unto the euc. I was able to ride straight but I feel like it's cramping my calves and sole. Also, is it ideal to practice everyday or would this do more harm? Yesterday I was getting the hang of free mounting and riding straight, the following day it seemed like it was forgotten, I was struggling plus my soles are cramping.
Personally I don’t feel EUCs and phones 📱 should ever mix especially since many people can’t walk and text simultaneously without some sort of fail happening. 🙏🏼
As always I (and many others) appreciate your videos. Learning to ride is a journey, and your inspiration keeps it in perspective. Thanks!
This is why I try to sleep as much as I can at work, so I can learn how to do my work better!
Genius!!!
lmao...this is the way
Perfect!

Good video George 👍
We were taught at school not to study all night for exams because you need sleep for the information to imprint.
Thanks!!
similar to your rear view mirror in your car, a helmet mirror is invaluable for riding on a road
Can't be said enough!!
Is that what they're called Helmet mirror? I definitely want one. Hard to find online if you don't know the name of them.
yeah helmet mirror
Awesome 😎 thanks brother 🙏
You have a really good way of explaining things, very nice job indeed
Thanks!!
Listening to low volume music in my helmet helps me.
👌
Agreed. Look around. You won't hear the traffic with a full face helmet.
I haven't riden an EUC in a while, but sometimes I dream I am riding.
🤘
Get the muscles boy.. will see you Wednesday..
Awwww yeah 🤘
George juggling while riding: "aRe YoU nOt EnTeRtAiNeD!?". Good job on this one !

Good topic man… elaborate more like this one. Im still struggling to ride the streets, this helps a bit. I would love to hear more.

Just keep practicing! Building the proper muscles up takes time and repetition is key!
Cool video! You're definitely correct that you need a break and the next day is much much better.
🤘

@@electric_meadows_racing 🤣 yup boston drivers can be .... aggressive
TY George. Cool videos
Thanks!!
Good video, so on point... Again, same method I used when I was getting comfy on my OneWheel. Now doing the same with my S18...
Nice! Definitely similar skills, the s18 looks dope i cant wait to try one!
👍

semi relaxed, yoyr feet will always be flexing one way or the other and calves will be activated. you need to just build endurance in those areas
