While shopping at an outdoor market, young reporter Tintin (Jamie Bell), accompanied by his faithful dog, Snowy, buys a model of an old ship called the Unicorn. A shady character named Sakharine (Daniel Craig) and later an American named Barnaby (Joe Starr) try to buy the model from him, but Tintin refuses. The over the top action sequences are so amazing and extravagant in this movie. I think it would've been off-putting if Tintin was actually done live-action but I'm glad that they went the photo realistic yet cartoony style. It gives the movie a unique stylistic identity compare to a lot 3d movies, even today.

I can't tell you how excited I was to see this reaction uploaded tonight!
I also grew up with the show as my mum had the box set and several of the comics. They really did Tintin justice. Everything from the *STUNNING* animation, the character designs, the voice actors, the inventive direction and the writing which managed to put a new twist on a couple of the classic adventures. It meant that, even as a fan, I still got surprised in some scenes.
They showed a lot of respect to the original material with hints at the other adventures and the caricatures at the beginning being drawn by Hergé. They also paid homage parts of the original story where Tintin and Haddock met, "The Crab with the Golden Claws", which were not directly included with the crab fountain and the cans that showed up in a few scenes.
The attention to detail in this film is phenomenal and I'm so glad you enjoyed watching it so much!
    And yes, Snowy is MVP.

Side note that whole chase scene in the desert is still one of the most beautifully animated chase sequences I've ever seen in any movie not even kidding. It was all one shot and was nailed almost perfectly.

Poor JV didn't watch a lot or any animation outside of anime in the past so he hasn't been able to see the natural progression of animation over the years. He's always surprised at how good animation is but Tintin was just 11 years ago, that is not even as far back as Advent Children which was 2005 or 2006 and was beautifully animated. Animation is not only NOW getting good, it's been good, a long time. Nice to see him catching up.

Gosh I love Tintin, my grandpa has the entire comic collection, even the ones published in the local Belgian dialect of the time! As a Belgian girl I cringe every time people pronounce Tintin's name wrong though, and most of the other characters don't have their original name. Snowy's name is actually Milou, and the two police men are Dupond and Dupont (yes the names of these two are actually slightly different, which means they are not twins). But I'm also pretty proud that a little Belgian comic got this far~ as for Tintin's age, all the author said is that Tintin is "very young", and that his physical age went from 14 to 17 along the comic series, whatever that means. But he's usually portrayed like he is in his early twenties. Tehy kept his actual age a mystery so that more of the public could relate to him. Also, this movie is a mix of a bunch of comic books!

    • @rogeriopenna9014

@Asta Westh- Kristensen I don't really know how to write it to give the correct sound since it's a sound that I believe exists only in French :/ but if you write it in the French Google Translate and click on the "hear" button then the pronunciation is correct. Or you can maybe find some episodes online in French with English subtitles! I know some full episodes are out there but not sure about the subtitles. The animated series is pretty entertaining and nearly exactly like the comics as one episode equals one comic, which is great in my opinion. Would definitely recommend watching a couple. I remember liking the one with the Pharaoh's cigar and the one with the Castafiore jewels (not sure if her name is the same in your language, but it's that annoying opera singer who likes Capitaine Haddock).

    • @manon_0411

@@rogeriopenna9014 His original name is Professeur (French for professor) Tournesol! It also means sunflower in French. His first name is Tryphon. Just found out they name him Professor Calculus in English and that is both upsetting and sad. It's ugly and doesn't have that same connotation of a bright happy person, on the contrary it sounds very serious which the professor isn't most of the time.

Tintin was originally a comic written between the 1920s and 1970s by the Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi (better known as Hergé). He wrote and illustrated 24 stories and this film is based on combining and editing two or three of the original books together, plus adding a few other things (the identity of the villain in the original 'The Secret of the Unicorn' is different for instance.)
The books are originally written in French but have received a lot of high quality translations. They are very famous in Continental Europe and Britain and the UK but aren't really that well known in North America.

Something that always gets me in the feels is the very end of the film. They finally find the gold and jewels, but Haddock is more interested in his ancestor's hat, and looks so proud wearing it. At the end of the day, redeeming his family, getting vengeance on Red Rackum, and the adventure itself is far superior to any monetary reward. When you think about it, it was his grandfather who told him the secret of the Unicorn, and he was so distraught at his passing that he fell to drinking. This subtly implies that he had a strong connection with him, so perhaps that hat represents the last thing bequeathed to him by his closest family member.

You should really watch Ford V Ferrari, it's one of my favorites. Although I am a car nut, this movie is still great for people who don't know anything about cars.( WARNING, you will probably cry.)😭

I'm a huge Tintin fan, my parents have all the comics, I use to watch the live action movies and the 90s animated show when I was a boy, and I ended up watching the rest, so when this movie came out in theaters, I was so happy ^^

Fun fact! The creator of Tintin had seen so many bad incarnations of his characters that he said before he died that the only man he would allow to make a movie about Tintin was Steven Spielberg. Sadly he passed away decades prior to this film coming out but you can tell Spielberg had a ton of passion for this project and after many years created this masterpiece of a film.
Also the portraits at the beginning are of classic characters in their original art style with the painter being Herge (the original creator!)

Police follow certain strict rules, journalists can often bend and avoid them, that and what criminal would take a copper seriously if they looked like Tintin?

Thanks a lot JV for reacting to this movie. For me it is the greatest animated movie of all time tied with Spiderman into Spider-Verse.

Era of high quality productions are over thanks to Netflix and all of the streaming service although it is cheap and convenient for me. Now a day there are barely any individual production are left same thing for something like Rango.
