    This movie's animation is in it's own league and serves as proof that 3D animated movies can look just as good as 2D animated movies. A lot of the character desings are not symmetrical, which gives them a greatly unique feel: Rango has his neck crooked to one side, there's a rabbit with a missing ear, another character has an arrow in their eye, etc. Everything is also insanely detailed and the quality of the animation stays consistent through the whole thing. It's just outstanding.

    • @veronicawexel1291
      @veronicawexel1291 2 года назад +26

      The lack of symmetry gave the modelers a fuck ton of trouble too because it was difficult to get them to look good from all sides. And such massive respect to them for that because they had every opportunity to go the easier, faster route by making every character symmetrical but they put in the effort to stay true to the vision. The behind the scenes stuff for this movie is just super interesting in general.

      @@veronicawexel1291 I absolutely agree, totally recommend checking out behind the scenes stuff for this film. There are even videos here on RUclips that show the cast acting out the animated scenes on the set and it's incredibly entertaining and interesting.

      I have nothing against 3-D animation, it is a wonder to allow us to see things and a whole new perspective as well as certain limitations being eliminated to allow freedom to whatever animators can create. However what makes 2-D animation fascinating is that it's done by limited resources and for it to be done by hand with such skill it's hard to come by these days. Maybe not entirely hard to find but still back in the 90s and possibly the 80s as well as older animations it proves that such passion is alive be a two dimensional or third dimensional.

    Rango is an underrated classic. The atmosphere, lighting, composition, character design, down to the textures on everything- absolutely still holds up to this day. The comedy is good, the villain is scary, the story is well told. It's one of those films that I remember seeing when I was younger and refused to watch because it looked gross, but as an adult (and someone who's SUPER into character design and animation, even if just as a fan and not a creator), it's probably in my top 5 favourite movies ever.

    Fun fact: you don't have to be immune to venom to drink it and not die. Venom works different from poison in that it has to directly enter the bloodstream in order to take effect, hence why all venomous animals have fangs or stingers to inject it. So if you don't have any internal injuries, you could drink venom and be fine. I strongly advise against trying it however because it probably tastes awful.

    Rango is one of the most visually pleasing animated films out there in my opinion. I find it hard to watch because of the intense awkwardness but I still watch it every once in a while because it's just so, *so* nice to watch. And the story is super compelling. And Rattlesnake Jake is just one of the coolest villains/antagonists ever, dude has *such* vibes and is even quite respectable. This movie is just wild, I love it so much.

      @veronicawexel1291 2 года назад +4

      @@laei6391 The "kids only" thing for animation is probably one the single stupidest things out there. If a film for mature audiences is entirely CGI, it still gets classified as live action because for some reason a"realistic" visual thing does not count as animation. It's infuriating. At least Arcane is a thing now so I don't have to go looking for animated stuff that actually has something to get invested in (since basically any animated film with anything real going for it tends to be foreign films and they're so difficult to find that it's almost not worth it).

    The animation "studio" for Rango is actually Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). They're one of the biggest VFX production companies in the world and this was their first full-length animated film. Of course it looks amazing 👏 I hate when people attribute the animation of this to Nickelodeon and Paramount. But I wouldn't put this even in the same league as Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks/other "family"-oriented animation studios. ILM is waaaayyyyy better than that and would blow them out of the water if they did an animated feature today. The proof shows in how Rango won best animated feature the year it released

      Those big-name companies are the ones that (unfortunately) pay the bills and greenlight projects that we all ultimately get to see. Unfortunately almost every animation of this quality (I can only remember Surfs Up right now) bombed at the box office. That is why these truly high quality animations no longer get done.

      @Armaldo468 11 месяцев назад

      Wouldn’t surprise me if a ton of your fellow Californians don’t even know them. A lot of people out there don’t exactly live in the real world. (In fairness, there are unfortunately people like that everywhere. I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that most of Hollywood is completely oblivious to the existence of such things, though.) I’m pretty sure the regional factor has very little to do with who knows about what, though; I’m a proud Hoosier (in other words, I’m from Indiana, but Indianan sounds fucking weird) and have been familiar with a lot of those critters most of my life. Gila monsters are awesome and adorable, and I’d almost try to get something crazy like that as a pet if I didn’t have such bad luck with reptiles. (I’ve had two different Russian tortoises in the past who both passed away way too young. Supposedly they could live up to like 50 years. Raphael only lived to like 2 or 3 before succumbing to a bizarre respiratory infection out of nowhere, and Torkoal lasted somewhere between like 6-8 years before he inexplicably stopped eating. I’m having trouble remembering exactly how long he lived, oddly. However long Torkoal made it, even the vet couldn’t find anything notably wrong with him. All we can figure is that Russian tortoises either don’t do well in captivity or don’t do well *here.* Or perhaps all the care instructions were incorrect. As I’ve also had similar experiences with amphibians-namely aquatic frogs and newts-you can see why I’m rather pessimistic about my ability to take care of things with scales or slimy skin. Reptiles as a whole are arguably among the hardiest creatures this world has ever known, so it’s more than a little discouraging to lose two *tortoises* at such young ages. Man, even if I ignored the law and somehow got my hands on an alligator, it’d probably only last like a twelfth of its incredible lifespan; the mightiest of the mighty might still fall. So goddamn frustrating and painful.)

    I think a Red Dead Redemption 2 Lets-Play is warranted after this, I’d tune in for that series for sure! Best Video Game story I’ve ever played

    I'm creating a cartoon. It's called, Forgotten Tales! It's about these forgotten and obscure characters that go on wacky and crazy adventures.

    unlike most animated movies, verbinski shot the scenes with the real actors and then the animators would animate the scenes afterwards. not like rotoscoping but more for references.

    Even though I have a soft spot for Rio 1. I’m glad this won best animated feature in 2011. I really appreciate this movie as an artists western that takes a cliche plot and makes it work in the theme of finding your purpose in life.
