  • We discuss the good and the bad as it pertains to the Thunder Laser Bolt. This little machine is fantastic and a great. This 30Watt RF tube has a time beam which is amazing at detail work.

I feel like this is the first honest constructive review of the Bolt on RUclips, especially since it is coming from long time Thunder laser owners. The things you both have pointed out are completely absent from other reviews. Thank you for this 🤝

Thanks we try to be as honest as we can. Most people do not want to mention anything negative which frustrates us as well.

Morning folks - thanks for the review. I really like it - it is my first machine and so far, I could not be happier with it. Cheers!

Keep it up as not many people doing work on the Bolt on RUclips.

Thanks for the video. I have a Nova and am now thinking of an RF model. I am torn between getting the Bolt or the Odin and really wish Thunder had a middle ground between the two.

thunderlaser made a small desktop similar to this 7 years ago, only 20 were made, all are still in use, only 3 have had come back for new tubes, the roller system was very similar to the bolt and never had to replace a roller yet

i have opened and shut the lower door for 5 months and NEVER pulled off the rubber ???, door is solid too, the metal gun is a beam expander, which modifies the beam profile for better transmission, mirrors are so easy to get at

We have had our bolt as a second laser for about a month.
We have been very disappointed with the quality of the engraving on tumblers that it produces.
We have spent days changing setting and testing everything. It seems like maybe the rf tube does not have the ability to produce a clean engrave like a water cooled laser. I believe that this is because of the beam size.
I would not buy it again for tumbler engraving...

So sorry to hear that. We have had better engravings on tumblers than in the Nova series. We are working on videos about the tumblers. Maybe we can help.

      @@Angrycraftsman interesting!
Don't get me wrong, the engraving it produces is ok.. it's just not top quality.
An engraving on a yeti should be a bright after cleaning as the yeti rim. But this seems to produce little ridges in the engraving that gives it a dirty look. So it only comes out the same cleanliness as the yeti logo engraving.
I guess it all depends on the quality that you want to provide.
I am very surprised that this produces better engraving than the nova though! That's wonderful to hear.
We have a boss as our main laser to compare to.

you are doing something wrong then, what speed and feed are you running, probably too fast and not high enough resolution

What lens are you using? For quality engraving you want the 1.5". It's not the tube, RF tubes produce a finer spot size and higher energy density then glass tubes, that's why the Bolt's 30W RF can cut as good or better then a 60W glass tube.
