Can I just say whoever came up with the idea of getting Cleese in was an absolute genius; I really enjoy what he does and reminds me what an incredible talent he is. PS as computer programmer I am exactly the same with sleeping on a problem. It's like witchcraft!
Fascinating discussion. I entirely relate to the hesitation that sometimes grips you before you are able to settle down to write - re-arranging your CDs or sharpening pencils and so on.
I have come the conclusion after many decades, we are all part of one consciousness. Its is so similar to one mega main frame and how we are attached to it. Very much what you are saying.
I think every creative person does it that way, we have the best ideas when we're not trying to have ideas, stepping away from it for a while helps, and it was so interesting to hear what he said because I say it myself, I try to write songs that I would like to hear.
" music is sort of.. out there and you have to channel it" then suddenly John got some media sign "It had become to boring "and it abruptly ends ?? Truth is slayed quickly these days.
Aye! Oh please media type folk, if something is interesting, if it is being broadcast live, keep recording even if time means you have to chop a segment short!
I like this stuff, I just wish it wasn't surrounded by a whole bunch of other stuff about how "woke" lefties are going to destroy the world. More of _this_ stuff please. My youtube feed is always drowning in the endless PC whingeing.

Me too! Even if the solution didn't work it gave me a new angle of attack for a problem.
I believe that without my wit, sarcasm and seemingly endless supply of sighs, I would be dead inside.

This is true, I often have ideas for books and songs that you just have to write down on waking up or they can be lost.
To me, the big question is whether you've created the idea, or accessed it from the world of ideas.

It would be great if John Cleese could relate his experience at Cambridge, as well as some anecdotes.
Cleese and Schaffer and very funny pairing.
I don't have a talented bone in my body. But I love listening to those who do. I enjoyed this.

“don't mention the war”
And it went…wherever I…did go
What solution? Find another American wife? LMAO
Unfortunately abrupt conclusion.

Phythonesque in its ending
Song-writer John looks a bit like PG Wodehouse
