Could you please do more on Dopamine detox? I had tons of epiphanies after reading Lembke's book. I am rarely on social media or playing games though, so I am really looking for something that doesn't focus on just that
this is kinda perfect, as i was on a dopimine blocker drug for 5 months. Im trying to feel plesure again from small things, lets try the 4weeks detox now
This is very different from what Andrew Huberman said about Dopamine and has confused me now. For example, he suggests not to reward yourself right after something you want to keep doing (like exercise), because then, you start devaluing the activity of exercising and will only want to do it for the reward. Also, he says that Dopamine goes way below its baseline after a quick spike, and that's when we feel unmotivated because the demotivated state is supposed to make us pursue that reward more (then fruits, now Instagram). The bigger the dopamine spike, the bigger the dip, which then takes time to come back to normal, keeping us in a demotivated state (more likely to repeat stimulating activities). Also, he says that over time, if we spike our dopamine over and over again quickly, our baseline level drops (to not empty the "dopamine reserves", thanks to Mr. Homeostasis), making us feel not as "happy" and motivated as we should be. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You are right…. and I kind of think Dr. Lembke would likely agree with him. Perhaps this perspective is more based in neuroscience, because I am certain there are many psychologists that would support rewarding behavior/positive reinforcement.
Ok, I want to take a moment and appreciate you Ali for making such a highly informative knowledgeable, and valuable video in a world full of dopamine. This is the best non-guilt inducing video on dopamine (detox) i’ve seen, Ali! I noticed a couple weeks ago that I was really in this addictive cycle of watching RUclips videos for hours in the morning, and then I’d have no energy/motivation to work on my business. It’s been powerful to put limits around that dopamine cycle by reinstating a good morning routine and setting rules for myself around what I can and can’t watch in the morning before work. And now I’m working on my own RUclips channel instead, which is what I actually want! Thanks for sharing.

As someone who's also an overthinker. When I start repeating certain thoughts and I get nowhere with those thoughts. I stop thinking about those thoughts. And it actually worked(for me) because there's times I've allowed myself to think about thoughts for hours on end and got nowhere with it
I like to list the thoughts that are bothering me and, later on, use some time to actually think rationally if any of these thoughts is an actual problem, what is the worst thing that could happen, if there is some reasonable way to solve it, and if I am truly interested in solving it (otherwise, why would I waste my energy on it?). I think it really helps, it gives me the feeling I'm addressing to my problems.

Hi guys, If anyone reading this comment please like it so Ali reads it. I'd be very grateful. Hi Ali, if you are reading this mate, THANKS YOU SO MUCH for the knowledge and information that your share on this platform. You recently, made a video called "My honest advice to someone who wants financial freedom", in which you mentioned that you have a friend who run a Software Business and is making $30k+ a months. I'm currently reading those books which you mentioned in your video. However, I'd love to see a podcast where you invite your friend and discuss how he built the business and how someone like me living in UK can get into Software Business field. I think you haven't invited that many Tech entrepreneur on your Podcast. If you could make a podcast with this particular friend, I'd be very grateful for your help. It will give me a starting point and overall idea about where I have to start Software Business. Thanks for reading my long comment.
Hi Ali, I have completely turned off my shorts recently to help me combat the mindless scrolling. And honestly it has done wonders to my attention span. Although I do feel like I miss out on a lot of your good content because of that. Do you think you can find a way to incorporate those lessons in your long videos? Or do your long videos speak on the same topics too?
I like how you always draw a drop whenever you have a spike on the phasic transmission. It really shows that each time you have a spike, you will feel a drop in your "mood" and that's okay. Thank you for the great video as always, Ali!
Would LOVE to see something like this with ADHD taken to account! The baseline level for us is a lot more irregular if I remember my reading right, (I may not be), but for instance, the rule of boredom is both my favorite and most challenging for me due to the ADHD. I’m frequently bored but it ends up almost being painful because of the lack of consistent non-spiking dopamine. Seeing as our system is fundamentally different in how we exist with irregular dopamine levels, I’d really like to learn if there’s ways outside of medication that can help us with addictive behaviors.
hello, if you don't mind, please make a cortisol breakdown video just like this one....i was really helpful to hear you explain this dopamine thing in detail and i personally need a similar explanation with stress because i heard somewhere that some stress is beneficial for productivity but not all stress is beneficial......and also controlling can be helpful
Strategies to control your dopamine: 1) The Rule of Pain Before Pleasure: if you can get yourself to experience pain before you are more likely to experience pleasure. Video game after going to gym to “reward yourself” type 1 fun: straight out fun like Netflix, video game etc and type 2 fun: temporarily painful but later joy giving like gym, difficult hike etc. 2) The rule of Avoidance: Avoid constantly doing dopamine inducing activities and things that remind me of such. Like turning off notifications/uninstalling app. Definitely will feel worse before feeling better. Takes typically 4 weeks to go back to normal. The Rule of Barriers: rather cutting down completely like previously said, put healthy limits/balance: Time barriers, (time limits for apps) Geographical barriers (not buying chocolate and having at home) Categorical barriers: having barriers for certain activities. Rule of boredom : be okay with boredom and avoid intense thrill seeking and indulging in escapism. Remind yourself that the purpose of this is to “be bored”
When I was in elementary school (late '80s-early '90s) there was no internet so when I wasn't with my friends I was bored. And I had a "passion" of looking at the geographical atlas and the historical atlas (instead of reading books or sthing else) for hours. Sounds stupid now. Since then I'm very good with maps and atlases :D and I never had any problems with history and geography. Nowadays this sounds sci-fi because if I'm bored I watch youtube videos. :D Such a waste of time and life.
Know what just after 3 mins watching I am losing paitence. Anime has destroyed my life. Anime/series is very dangerous, social media addiction/game addiction/live action MOVIE is nothing in compared to this. For 2 years I am suffering this problems and know what my academic result is soooo bad that now I am thinking which university will choose a failure like me.
I always struggle with that post-4 week avoidance situation. For years I have been deleting instagram and other social media apps, and have spent more than 4 weeks (usually its a 3 month plan for me) without any access to the apps. When I get them again, the first couple weeks are good, where I would argue I’m using the app a “healthy” amount. But after several weeks it has always gone back to how bad it was before. How do we break this cycle for good? I began deleting apps to get a break back in 2017, and to this day it’s the same cycle after avoidance.
The first seven seconds of this video is free dopamine. I know for a creator that is the key to get the audience into the crux of this but, as a consumer aware of dopamine spikes I will pass
Hey Ali Abdaal, your content is amazing. However, I would really appreciate it if you could speak up against the genocide of Palestinians that has been happening for 8 months. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
Used to take a lot of recreational (stimulant) substances that would flood the brain with dopamine and it did mess me up a bit. Even resulted in a bit of ED, which sucked, because I was feeling the desire but just no dice down there. Things got a lot better after I started taking some standardized hot-water Tongkat Ali root extract. Helped me get motivated and have the energy to start exercising again. My theory is the effects were compounded with exercise, which in turn helped me sleep better, and reduce my usage of the recreational stuff. All said, it’s been a great way to break out of that negative cycle and get back my motivation. Got my drive to exercise, great boners, and just the ability to really enjoy things again and I’m just glad as hell.
Thanks Ali. In return, im not gonna like this video to help you detox and experience some pain first (jk, a very beneficial and healthy video worth sharing, cheers 🎉)
Ab centre ko chahiye ki wo tax na le.. State k liye banta hai...State land dega, state displacement ko dekhega, state pollution jhelega aur Tax Centre lega...ye kaise sahi hai... Now states will compete for companies and based on their flexibility they will charge.
According to research I have read people with ADHD have an attenuated pool of tonic dopamine which, for me, makes boredom excruciating - Should we non Allistics implement this advice in the same way?
I remember my electricity was out due to a storm for like 3 days and during those days I got better sleep at night read more books and studied more even by candle light than I had in years. I remember before internet in my house I was always reading encyclopedias and studying them then when we finally got internet during covid I became a horrible student and I felt like I couldn't control myself. So these little sneaky addictions literally scare me sometimes. the amount of productivity you have when bored and all distractions are cut out is painful at first but it's so rewarding and beneficial to your life. So I guess just an internet detox with only books paper pens etc when you really need that focus.

That’s a great idea
Hi Ali, I have completely turned off my shorts recently to help me combat the mindless scrolling. And honestly it has done wonders to my attention span. Although I do feel like I miss out on a lot of your good content because of that. Do you think you can find a way to incorporate those lessons in your long videos? Or do your long videos speak on the same topics too?
Usually the shorts are just recycled long form videos in my experience 😅
I like how you always draw a drop whenever you have a spike on the phasic transmission. It really shows that each time you have a spike, you will feel a drop in your "mood" and that's okay. Thank you for the great video as always, Ali!
Wow it’s speaking in arabic !!😂❤️❤️ شكراً لك علي
Genuine question: What is the perfect ratio of pure "pain" to pure pleasure in hours?
Thanks :)

This is a good length video ,above 20 min is to much
hello, if you don't mind, please make a cortisol breakdown video just like this one....i was really helpful to hear you explain this dopamine thing in detail and i personally need a similar explanation with stress because i heard somewhere that some stress is beneficial for productivity but not all stress is beneficial......and also controlling can be helpful
Ali why don't you say that you invested in Rise?
Ummm… going to the gym or for a walk IS my reward.
You call 2.5 hours/month random yt videos an ungodly amount!:)
his video production and editing ideas just keep getting better and better
After lots of videos on dopamine, Ali made it simple and doable.
Wait! you can now watch this video in multiple languages
I can not change the language and will not watch the trash so voice...
Annoying

Strategies to control your dopamine:
1) The Rule of Pain
Before Pleasure: if you can get yourself to experience pain before you are more likely to experience pleasure.

Thank you so much for the video. I watched it, and I would like all your RUclips videos to have both Hindi and Nepali multi-audio tracks."

Thanks Ali. In return, im not gonna like this video to help you detox and experience some pain first
(jk, a very beneficial and healthy video worth sharing, cheers 🎉)
This is basically everything Atomic Habits talks about. I enjoy your videos so much.
Most of your are learning how he is explaining dopamine do's and don'ts but silly me trying to improve my English fluency and sentence making on the side.
I would like a video about mental health
Watch Dr k. He was recently on
