My husband had a low PSA, and the urologist kept saying ‘let’s watch it.’ He went to a fantastic doctor who did a prostatectomy. He had to do radiation and chemo. He had metastatic prostate cancer. I’m so thankful he’s alive!
I've had the honor of knowing Lonnie for 28 years, what an incredible man. Last October i was diagnosed with prostate cancer so i immediately reached out to my dear friend and of course he helped me out with a few questions i had. Luckily after my surgery i am still testing cancer free. We each have to search our souls to decide what treatment we are prepared for mentally. After watching my mother got through treatment for leukemia for 7 years i decided that for me i had to have surgery and for them to take out anything that might have cancer in it. It ended up being a good decision for me but it has left permanent side effects which are much more manageable but still have an affect on my life. I want to thank Lonnie for being such a good friend and putting out this video for thousands of others to view which will possibly help them decide on a treatment plan. Early detection is a key. I love you my friend.
One thing I have learned from these interviews is to obtain insurance that is PPO. The ability to go to any specific specialist is priceless. The hell with waiting for a referral
@@rustigreizenaub9249 insurance is a part of treatment .. waiting on referrals with a HMO from your PCP who is already swamped and his office taking earlier treatment time away from the situation with delayed referrals and insurance denials . its better to have a PPO to skip some steps to get you closer to faster treatment.and just a word of wisdom always get the any referral or order in hand even if the PCP office says they will send it on to the next step.because you could show up at the next step and it wasn't sent and now you are 2 steps back
Lonnie, you are a very brave man. Your advice to slow down, even take a break from cancer treatment, is worth hearing. I hope you maintain your positive attitude with the help of counseling and friends. I wish for you remission and great health. Keep smiling.
I just don't understand why there are people who wait such a long time with their serious symptoms to visit a doctor. And when they do and they notice that there is still no progress that they don't go for a second opinion. Lonnie you are very lucky still to be alive which we are all glad for of course. I hoped you learned from this experience and that the next time you have symptoms or you don't trust your body in a sense that you visit your doctor ASAP. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Lonnie seems like a great guy and I respect the decisions he made for himself. However, I have to disagree with his"slow down" advice, based on my own experience. In 2015, an abdominal scan showed an unexpected nodule on my lung. I was young and healthy, never smoked, etc. I went into overdrive and pushed for immediate surgery at a top research hospital in Philadelphia. It turned out to be non-small-cell-lung-cancer, stage 1A. All lymph nodes were clear. Thank God, I didn't need chemo or radiation. I was cured. That was almost ten years ago. The surgeon told me that if I had waited, the tumor would have progressed very quickly and my cancer would have become become incurable. Lung cancer, like many others, spreads fast! I would advise taking care of your mental health WHILE you are seeking treatment. Go to the best hospital you can find, and as quickly as you can.
Hello team mate. Brave you are !Going for my fourth round of taxotere chemotherapy in 3 days. 61yo, physical therapist, moderately in good shape and boom, psa 137. On 6 months lupron (horrible side effects…but hey what else can I do?) zytiga and prednisone… after 3 rounds of chemotherapy , PSA came 2 weeks ago at 0.6 and this morning, oncologist called to announce PSA below 0.1. Still working 5 days a week and trying to walk 2 miles a day . Psa below 0.1 sounds good, but staying very cautious. Mets on ribs and multiple lymph nodes when we started. Gleason 9 . Let’s stay positive and hopeful. You will be ok. You will.
Thank you for sharing your story It is good advice to us all dealing with cancer dx I had prostate cancer since early 2023 nearly 1 1/2 yrs Mine was local 4+3=7 “unfavorable “ Stage 2C if I read my dx correctly I had radiation & Lupron My PSA is still low 0.31 but I have frequent urination most nights Some side effects seem to stay I am now 70 yrs old May God bless you in this Remember he will provide what is best
This is not me saying this, this is a statement from a lady on another site: I wish to share more good news. Since our texts, December 2022/January 2023, my husband has had two more PSA tests. Here is the recap of his tests . Lenny’s PSA continues to drop, as he continues to take the Panacur C daily.
He reallllly lucked out when he decided to wait, and take some time before starting any treatment. Many people don't have that luxury, and are dead before their treatment has time to start, let alone work. Everyone has to choose what is right for themself, but all choices will have consequences so be realistic. Most symptoms, names of medications used, side effects, how did you cope with or treat side effects, etc.. were all glossed over in this patient story. That is some of the most helpful info I have found from other patient's stories. If you are not comfortable dicussing your personal experience, why step forward for this channel.
@cici-mama And there is a reason Patient Story was created, and it is different from mainstream media stories. Based on the hundreds of other videos they have, especially the ones from the first few years that included the person asking the questions, the focus was on providing as much helpful information as possible from an individual patient perspective.
If your cancer story keeps on, you must re- examine your medicine treatment.. I've Prostate Cancer but Stage1. If something goes progressive-good Lord of Heavens! - I'll do my treatment agenda!! I can't write here cause there're reactions... Good luck my friend, *edit: I forgot to mention that all started cause suddenly i couldn't pee!! So i had a Foley and i did Turis surgery. It's 7th week now, i pee sometimes normally, other times a little, sometimes leaking!!!🤔 I don't know what to say.. Biopsy shows Gleason 6 but i think to make a special bladder blood test. Just to make sure that we've no surprises! Just an advice: Basically you need a medicine which forbid Cancer cells to take glucose! But most of Hospital official medicine trestments, are very strong and have side effects!! Stay strong and keep yourself informed!
My fathers PSA was always HIGH so they always wanted a biopsy and the man would COMPLAIN EVERY TIME and I told “your 7 yr old grandson had cancer and he never bitched as much as you are doing right now” well he looked at me with tears and got quiet and every time there was nothing wrong with his prostate for some reason it was always high
I was wondering why your GP didn’t order a PSA test at your first visit. Why did you reject chemotherapy as a treatment? I am curious did you happen to track what other prostate cancer patients results were who followed conventional treatment regimes. Politics aside rudi guiliani had prostate cancer and as far as I know is cancer free after his treatment. I think you are 7 years out from your initial diagnosis - are there any newer clinical trials available for you now? I
I wonder if the AMA keeps statistics on how many people reported any symptom onset, then we're told by their doctor that it's minor or it's nothing or let's watch it, then it turned out to be cancer.
I like this channel but I think the production quality could be improved quite a bit. And in most of the videos, there's always a small section where the dialogue repeats (rather seamlessly but still repetitious).
Lonnie story is almost identical to my ex bf brother's prostate cancer. but in his case he was given antibiotics over over up until a year he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. When he was finally diagnosed to be Stage 4, it was very sad, I think if he had diagnosed sooner he may still be with us today, at least longer than 5- 6 years that he lived

Does that mean you can’t have sex ? Is that the trade off?
Why bother with a prostatectomy if it is already metastatic?
