    I enjoyed your review and have found that the splitter works very well as you described. One question I have is why Yardworks did not design an off-on switch that could be optionally left on allowing the operator to use just one hand to split the log after placing it on the splitter. I feel that would very much speed up the process of turning over the split log to split it further into quarters. If I had an assistant, they could place the new log on more quickly that doing this by myself.

    Just picked one up today on sale for $299 to split up a couple trees the wind took down last fall. Thought I'd check out some reviews after the fact. Glad it's a solid little workhorse. I might get more use out of it than I thought. Thanks for your review. I'm now subscribed!

      Thanks for watching! I like to do my reviews this way. I don't like it when people do unboxings and basically just say how good it looks or how good it SHOULD work. I want to hear from someone who actually puts the thing to use. I don't like to do a review till I've used it extensively.

      I was looking to find out what that threaded plug is on the far right of the splitter. I bought this used and the sticker is gone. I'm pretty sure it might be for hydraulic oil could you tell me if you know

    Best review yet! To the point like it. Quick question what about knots? i got this bc i have lots of knotty blocks I couldn’t split with a maul

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      It splits through the knots no problem. The odd time you'll have it hang up slightly but I just turn the block around or rotate it and it splits no problem. I've split a pile of knotted up spruce with it and haven't had any issues.

    I had one of these for 6 years. I hardly use it as I buy my wood cut an split but some peaces are to big so I keep this spliter by the stove to split the big peaces. For years I use it today an it would sit for 2 or 3 months an you push the button an nothing. I'd tap the motor a few times an it would work. Now you push the button motor runs but sounds lower rpm an pops the reset button out on the untit. It sounds like it only running half speed. I took the cover off were the switch is. Disconeted the capacitor an pushed the button an motor ran slow like it has an popped the reset. I replaced the capacitor and same thing. I took the fan cover off an turned the motor by hand and it turns free no binding .. so I don't know whats wrong with the motor. I dont think they are hydrolic. I be leave its just a worm gear. Make sure you check the oil level as that lubs the parts. It don't hold much oil.

    • @arnoldromppai5395
      @arnoldromppai5395 Год назад

      It don't seem like you can get parts for these yardworks spliters. Also the motor not serviceable, no were to get to the brushes, sure there 3 long bolts you can take out like on other good motors to split the case. But the case do not come a part. There a snap ring on the shaft to hold the bearing in. Why I don't know the bearing is pressed on so tight you will brake the very tin aluminum end cap if you try to put a puller on it. I didnt brake it but it was clear if I turned the puller screw one more time it was sure to bust a part. I wouldn't leave this thing out in the weather once you remove the plastic fan there an open hole to the bearing below. Water will get in. Mine been in the house all its life. The so called parts manual is as good as the paper it printed on. It list parts by a 1,2,3,4 ext. But no part number or how to get parts. How I got the capacitor its easy to find what ever one you need. I found the same brand name an uf as the one in it on Amazon. I order the ones for my well pump control box an others I need same way. But as far as a part such as a motor or any other part other then any of the electrical parts you can't get or find. It same thing with all them cheap engine you can by that are a no name or branded a hundred diferent name from over seas there only good until you need a part.

    Thanks for the video. Thinking of buying one for $299 but wasn't sure how it would perform. Now I think i'm sold. Question - Do you spit your wood shortly after its cut or wait until it dries out?

    • @mrpbagger
      @mrpbagger 2 года назад

      Not sure if it'll season sooner if you split right away.

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      I split it right away. I also cut standing dead trees. Theres a lot of beetle killed pine and standing dead spruce so i dont have to cut green trees and season them. I have cut down some spruce that were still slightly green and it still split them. Its a great machine.

    how does it handle bigger hardwood like yellow birch?

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  2 года назад

      I'm actually not to sure. I've only used it on pine and spruce but I'm sure it wouldn't have a problem splitting birch. I've split a lot of 20 to 24 inch spruce with it and they can be pretty tough to get through especially with all the limbs and knots.

      @BuickOutdoors  2 года назад

      @666dynomax no problem. I don't think anyone needs one of those big gas powered ones unless you're doing some massive hard woods especially after seeing what this small electric one is able to do.
