- What causes those brown spots on your ceiling?
It doesn't always mean your roof is leaking! We took a look in the attic and found that the insulation was FAR below the Department of Energy's standard. This causes hot humid air to escape into the attic and condense where it then drips and stains your celling.

I think I have this, nothing leaking through but some brown patches on the ceiling right next to the wall in two different rooms upstairs
One thing these 'stains' are caused by that you didn't mention, is the ceiling fan. They push dust into the corners and eventually leave a brownish mark in the corners, or along where the ceiling and walls meet. This is especially prevalant in states that are dryer like CO, AZ, UT, NV, and NM. Sometimes they can be cleaned , but its a pain.

Im starting to get brown stains on my ceiling, should I get professional because my family and I dont know how to do it.
Our ceiling has a yellowish stain. There is a bathroom above this area but we were not able to find any leaks around that area. What are other reasons why these stains may happen? Thank you
