That is not a fair comparison by any means. The vast majority of Canadians watch hockey regularly, some Canadians watch football regularly. Look at what we are willing to spend to watch a hockey game be it on t.v. with our drastically higher broadcasting fees or the price of admission and product sales. You can watch a game in Florida for seven dollars. You can't buy a beer for seven dollars in Canadian arenas. The demand for hockey is easily ten fold greater than for th CFL.
junior hockey is so bad compared to nhl level and there will always be people who want to watch. yeah it really sucks that the league thinks they can do this but they did lose a lot of money and many fans of small market teams. it's not fair to judge other fans for not boycotting the league, we love watching it and we love our teams.

Gretzky, Orr, Hull, Messier, Howe, Bossy, Coffey, LaFleur, Mahvolich, Richard, Sittler, Béliveau, Bourque, Lindsay, Plante, Shutt, Trottier, and so many more. Most of these people have built the NHL, no Hockey itself, into what we know it as today.
Not necessarily, Kovalchuck went to the KHL where he makes $15M in Russia which is way more than he'd make here... and you would be insane to think the KHL has better hockey than the NHL. Money isn't everything. Players want to play in there hometown. I don't agree than Canada should have there own league but we do have the better players and the USA has the population to be able to support the league.

It would be equally as viable to run a Canadian league than to continue supporting teams like Phoenix, Florida, Islanders, Nashville, Dallas, New Jersey and the other teams that either lose money or might as well be.
