We might see a change coming soon considering the community manager has essentially said the more negative feedback, reviews and refunds will give them (as in developers) more pull in discussions. What do you think? I would advise taking it with a grain of salt because this involves Sony, and it’s uncertain what will happen. Arrowhead came and and said "Hey guys we have no clue whats going on with our game right now so hold tight." and then proceeds to tell us all the information we already know. Sorry but thats just bad it seems they just wanted their game out there no matter how so they made a terrible deal. Like I know this was Sony's decision and Arrowhead has no say but still they singed the papers and made the deal this is sadly on them ultimately.
Any idea if Sony has said anything about all this? Am I crazy to think that they started it all, but aren't helping with any of the fallout?
Doubt it. If the player count is mostly the same they will do nothing. Sony will not waist a chance to promote their service with a trending game.
@@garthaslanian3747 They changed their TOS before this announcement, so it's 100% Sony's fault. That plus the fact that they sold the game in areas where PSN is not available, which is akin to bricking you product.
But then again, Arrowhead did sign up with Sony, so one could say they are, at least, partly to blame too.

They don’t do that for PlayStation exclusive games, god of war, last of us to name a few, but helldivers ? It’s obvious they’re doing it for greed. Sony needs to back track.
I think its probably an Online Crossplay issue.
@@darzinth The whole point of "CROSSPLAY" is that you can play with other platforms across from yours. I don't need a playstation account in COD to play with playstation players, or xbox players/microsoft account. The ONLY reason they want to do this is to boast about their playstation account user number to shareholders, and a potential vector to get more people into the playstation ecosystem.

You know, at least I find soluce in the fact arrowhead is trying to help out the people that will loose access to the game, and telling us to express our disgratitude in reviews refunds and etcetera to put more weight on Sony's shoulders is really something
Passing the buck. Arrowhead will have been well aware of this when they signed up with Sony as publishers. Its has to have been in the contract. If it was not then its within Arrowheads power to appeal against it as it would be considered out of the agreement.
They still made the deal and are now realizing just how bad the deal really was and are pushing blame. They are not solely responsible but they still need to so accountability other then just a finical hit to try and get sony to break the deal and drop them. Companies need to start saying no to bad deals and just shelving the project till or if they can get a good deal that helps them and the consumer. But they just want their name and game out there and they are willing to make bad deals with devils to do it.

@@russrandolph The difference is that it always required you to have one at release, HD2 did not, for 3 months, nobody said anything so people assumed it was optional, and at this point it was, changing the terms of service and now requiring an account after the fact is just silly.
Fast forward to June 6th, Sony execs walk into meeting with shareholders to show this new “growth” in shareholders, only to see this staggering decline and be like we don’t know what happened 😂

Sony cutting off players on a platform they get very little profit from will likely not show a huge decline. I feel that if it hurt their bottom line that much, they wouldn't be doing it.
Except Sony is too huge to even feel the impact that boycotting this game will do. Don't forget they manufacture almost every kind of electronic. The PlayStation division of Sony is like a neat little party trick or a side hustle to them. The players literally mean nothing.

Here's the issue which you might not know, they are under a contract and which probably are forcing the devs at Arrowhead to bend the knee kinda like how it happened with Stellar Blade being day 1 patched and censored and just like with the other incident they also got a gag on not blaming Sony for this.

I think a better solution would be an optional sign in if you want to enable cross-play ? Idk it's the first idea off the top of my head.
It's not about crossplay. HD1 was also published by Sony yet never required it.

@@MrDoggo23 How is this about data-collection? All you need to specify to create an account is your date of birth and location, which you can lie about, and a valid email, and it takes 1 minute to set up a valid throwaway email.
Unless you think account linking will somehow magically give sony access to all the data steam has on you, it doesn't, it just tells them that the PSN-user so-and so has this-and-that steam id.

I think what will happen is when the date comes a large number of players will not comply, leave the game, and go start playing other games.

@@thornyduck thank you c: fallout 76 community in a nutshell right here, i never got into it because i was a goober who rode the wagon. Now that i've started playing it, it's phenomenal, it's so much fun and people are really cool. The live events and camps make it so interesting, i'm enjoying going on scrap runs since they actually hold incentive now. Just an all round fantastic time. Also good god map expansions? I'm like level 13 and have seen maybe 1/4 of the map xD
Anyone who thinks this is ok, needs to realize maybe it is for you but there are alot of regions that don't have access to PSN.

I have played games that are not released in my region a lot of times, there are ways around it, pretty easy ways. People are just pissed at Sony for multiple reasons, but in the end they funded this game, like it or not this game was made because of Sony investing into it.

I don't think arrowhead always intended to mandate the PSN link, but Sony definitely did, anger should be tossed at them, not the arrowhead developers. Spits clearly was fed up with all the crap going down, and he wasn't defending the way he handled it though the way he explained it was a bit self-righteous, I can't imagine the feelings and thoughts going through the developers right now.

Not sure what this has to do with Arrowhead. As publisher, it is sony that would have coordinated that with steam, so if sony tells steam to sell the game to players in regions where you cannot create a PSN-account, that's on sony, certainly not on Arrowhead.

Popular opinion currently seems to be "F this, roll this announcement back or enjoy a dead game" - no matter what delusions you might harbour. Steam reviews are a powerful thing you know. If something's reviewed at Overwhelmingly Negative, which is where its headed, no new players will be joining. So goodbye "plenty of divers to replace you"

What really bothers me is the root-level access anti-cheat they use coupled with mandated PS4 network coupling. I'm not comfortable with Sony having that (potential) access level to my computer.

5:20 I believe he initially lacked awareness of why people were upset, perhaps assuming it was merely due to laziness regarding creating a PSN account. However, following the backlash, he likely educated himself, possibly by watching a RUclips video, and subsequently penned a response having grasped the genuine issue at hand.

I'm 41 years old. I don't care if someone calls me a c********* online. I want a refund. I didn't sign up to have Big Brother watching my every move. I will never play another cross compatible. Game no one wants to play with council players. 90% of them are 8-year-olds with out parents.
“Technical issues” is bs for why they didn’t roll this out at launch.
Q1 saw sales well above what they estimated. The game was a smash hit and plenty of success to report on the Q1 earning call. They pushed the psn requirement to Q2 to have a massive increase in active psn accounts a few weeks before Q2 earnings call.
I’m going to assume they are just as honest with the other answers as they are with the reason for not rolling out the psn requirement at launch.

Spitz is 100% in the wrong and here's why: They're a community manager... they're not paid to dish out sass like the Wendy's twitter account. This is an entertainment product and their job is to be the bridge between the devs & the community. Snarkily daring the community to go review bomb unnecessarily puts their colleagues at risk of losing their jobs as it damages the company's long term reputation.
They can say they're doing it to protect their team, but their actions are doing the opposite.

Also it is possible to make an account in countries that don’t have psn but it also can get you banned my friend tried the vpn tactic and he got banned

I’m not going to become a victim of another one of Sony’s hacking scandals. You can have a good game that people love but once you lose your playerbase's trust it’s hard to get it back. Just look at what’s happened to Escape from Tarkov. I blame Sony most of all for this mess, they always seem to put money and greed over the consumers. Not like they’re the only ones out there, it’s the majority of the big names in gaming. I pray for you fallen Helldivers, may you one day return to Super Earth.
Got the game on PSN for kid, got the game for self on PC. By linking PSN to Steam will no longer be able to play with kid without making a new PSN+ acc for kid who is below age for making a PSN acc and buying another copy of the game
Not true, you can make a sub/kid account. My kid has one and has access to any game I have on PS4

I can’t get a single player to match make into my server today. Very weird. Usually I only have to wait like 30 seconds tops for players to get quick matched in with me. I literally did all my dishes and still nobody.. I also did a load of laundry a little and same thing, no teammates. Crossplay is on too
Me and my buddy try to get an sos out for anyone to join us on a operation. And no one didn't bothered joining up on us. Did one more operation before bed. No one joined up either. And there's only a total of 147,000+ helldivers that were active, and this was last night. The boycott is real man. People are extremely pissed.

If this was supposed to happen earlier on, they should’ve canned it when they realized this game is monumental success for PS.

FYI Shooting the tail of a charger is just an ammo dump. There's a ton of weapons and strategems that can quickly dispose off a charger

Spitz didn't seem to realize that actually encouraging Stratagem: Steam Review Bomb creates friendly fire casualties at Arrowhead. That is unfortunate. Certainly is getting publicity about the situation...
Sony doesn't get to pull the captive audience card with the PC crowd. If they follow through I'll be requesting a refund and checking other options (legal, etc.) if that fails; I've got a lot of friends who play and I want to be on top of it if I can get mine or my buddies' money back.
Note: I haven't looked into anything yet. For all I know, a legal route was waived when I read a ToS or something. It's the thought that counts.
I believe Arrowhead really tries to do right by us Helldivers, gamers and SuperEarth. I hope for a miracle that benefit us and Arrowhead.
How Sony could make this work is if you link your steam to a PSN account you can do Crossplay but if you dont your stuck playing with only other PC players
The fact sony didn't address that they are going to brick people's games if people don't bend the knee to them or see an issue with that at all in their faq I'd unsurprising but still disappointing
And if you feel its okay to scan you face to sony, then fine, they will ask you to do that to make an account
I think Spitz was genuine in the part where he said that he let it get under his skin and he snapped. He's the community manager. Of course he gets the heat, and he gets heat that he's not really in a position to deal with. He tells us what he knows and what he's able. Spitz's reaction was not good, because when you're Community manager, you are the forward face of the company online. People's impressions of the company come from community managers. It's understandable, he's only human, but still. Gotta keep things professional.
We gave spitz multiple chances to correct their snide behavior, but this?! Immediately fired.

I do not travel, study or work in a country that doesn`t have PSN but i LIVE IN IT, soo what should i do ?????

You need to read that section about people registering PSN accounts from places where PSN is not available again because it DOES NOT say it's possible to do it if you live there. It says that if your are, for example, and American citizen who is in China for the next month traveling or on business or studying you can register using the country you actually live in meaning the USA. it does not in any way fix the problem raised about people who live in those countries who purchased the game on steam and now are forced to make a PSN account.
Whats worse is that steam users each have a unique number id behind their profiles which games can view when you connect, thats how ban systems work on other 3rd party games when there are more than 1 user(s) with the same name. If they dont allow cross platform progression, then this is just sony being power hungry and greedy

Honestly he mentioned making a cosmetic reward for linking accounts. That's probably the solution. Sony gets their data and shiny numbers from people who don't care, and the people who do care can just forgo those rewards.

The technical issue was they didn’t think the game was going to get as big as it did. Once it got big the Sony people did what they do best, ruin things.

I just think it is pretty much all Sonys fault and people need to be blaming Sony more than arrowhead, I think arrowhead is getting a lot of backlash over something they had little to no control over, yes this stuff is outrageous, sucks, and really just horrible but Sony I think is the one that needs to be blamed for it.
