One phrase that you said - Giving a voice to those parts of yourself - triggered a new understanding in me. I've been doing shadow work for a while now, gone deep to the levels I didn't know existed (Shadow kinda implies that, not seen :D). But that new understanding hit me deep and I felt like I actually want to see all the dark parts, I want to give them the spotlight, I actually want to be with them and I do love them. It was a really emotional moment and I feel so grateful for being here on this Earth having so much shadow to see and love.
With your particular style of conveying this message, I was able to grasp what you were sharing through images and reflections of moments in my life that appeared as you spoke.. It all made logical sense and really resonated from down deep so I'll continue on this dark night of the soul. peace and thanks
Thank you for addressing the fact that we ARE walking through life doing our work in our respective bodies, despite the idea of non-duality that rings so true at times. I sometimes get stuck in the trap of thinking that spiritual work (and I guess being my authentic self) is incompatible with being able to satisfy the apparent needs of the world around me. It can be hard to see a path to freedom other than the obvious extreme of dropping all attachments and adopting a monastic lifestyle. This is the kind of work anyone can do to free themselves one step at a time, no matter their life situation. Practical and actionable advice..thanks for sharing!
There is no path to freedom because you already are freedom. And then there can be more felt freedom that trickles from that revelation into the body and mind. Peace ✌️
Hello Alex! I’m new to shadow work and appreciate your content on this. I started writing earlier this year, unaware of what shadow work was and how to do it. It’s been an extremely powerful tool to have for intentional healing. I’m diving deeper and looking for resources and a sense of community and inclusiveness for those that are also wanting to explore shadow work.
This is by far the most understandable video on shadow work! I've been looking for almost 2 years & no one ever gives a direct answer or guidance! Do I write the negative things I have thought or past negative impacts during my life or just be in the moment & write my thoughts & feelings? Thank You for this! Many blessings, love & light to you brother!🙏💜
I would only encourage this worknwothba therapist. Ive been meditating for 13 years, attained states even monks wouldnt yet when i done shadow work on myself within weeks i had dug up some very nasty sides of myself that i was not prepared for. My therapist helps on another level altogether
It doesn't always require a therapist. It definitely requires a therapist or other suitable helper when it is outside of ones "window of tolerance". We don't want anyone to be feeling amounts of pain, grief, or confusion they don't feel resourced for. The right therapist or other suitable helper or resource is wonderful and recommended in the appropriate situations. Also, some people, including myself, have done some powerful shadow work on our own, or whilst being supported with someone else. It really depends on the person and situation.
Wow, cool, this is the first time I’ve ever actually heard someone ADVOCATE bypassing! In my experience, even .02 % can poison an entire process. It doesn’t take a huge turd in the punch bowl to ruin the entire batch, no matter how sweet, tasty and exquisite the other ingredients. To bypass, even subtly, is the way of suffering, sooner or later… Good luck to all in embracing the entirety of life, from the most sublime to the most troubling… 🌻🤬🔥💜
I was just wondering why I get obsessive thoughts all the time and stumbled across this video. Thank you Alex. I look forward to doing this shadow work strategy.
Basically. Obviously this is a very simplified version for the sake of a brief youtube video and to give people an introduction and overview. Sometimes you might need to start writing to bring on more bodily sensation. Follow the "what if?" with positive realizations/acceptance/self love. Make sure there is repatterning with as mycg positivity and light instead of only diving into the shadow. Write some gratitude and appreciations.
I have several permanent situations that cause me severe triggers. How can simply writing my feelings can help me ? Will it take me much longer than usual? Do I start writing down as soon as a trigger hits ? Then what happens after I release my shadows will my actual situations physically change or I just feel more at peace living with it ? Sorry for all these questions I hope you can answer all of them 😊 Thank you in advance!
Writing how you feel can help if it moves the emotional energy and release it. The more healing you have to do the more you get to transmute into gold. Both how you feel and situations will change.
Have you ever had a thought that you later realised wasn't inline with what you really feel and believe? Perhaps a time you felt angry and said something that you later realised wasn't really "you". That's what I mean by the character. So for example, you might write something like "I feel so angry at you, Dad, for doing this to me." but in reality, it was many years ago, you have moved on and forgiven. However, there may still be a "character in your body" and associated emotional density that expresses itself that way in order to process emotion. You are not ultimately the character, but it is an appearance within you that collapses when its fully seen.
Why do we need to create a new story with “what if?” Why can’t we just further abandon all stories. Creating a new “what if” just sets you up for disappointment and another cycle of shadow work when that thing doesn’t come true.
It's really up to you. We're just talking about possibly. Possibility exists and it's ok to embrace it so long as you're not placing your happiness on it. Plus, the mind needs a safe/positive experience to neutralise the fear/negativity energy. It's how the system works and is part of integration. At the end of the day, do what works for you.

It's really about what gets into the feelings and releases them

We all are the collective of The One, and you found the .02% that you probably should have bypassed

It's that guy again!😉 Good balanced advice, that I for one can attest too. Thanks Alex.
Appreciate you Pip!
1 where do I feel tension in the body and any other places of discomfort?
2. Write 5 minutes non judgementally
3. Write down the answer on "what if?"

I have been doing shadow work journaling & inner child healing since 10 days. Since 2 days now my body feels tired & sleepy! Why is that?
Processing and healing can be temporarily exhausting! Rest well.
Hi, What do you mean with:"journal for the character".
