Thank you for this. Shadow work is so often presented as digging into the darkness, which I think can be a scary and off putting idea to a lot of people. When you frame the work as a form of self love, and a way of bringing parts of ourselves into the light to integrste, it makes the idea of it so much less scary. As always, your videos rock. 😊

True words indeed! It is uncomfortable and hard regardless but as a motivation to start and keep going, framing it positively is definitely helpful 🙂 so glad you enjoy the video!

@@amandahinds6131 same. people can be very closed and the learning curve is so high, especially if you do not come from a wiccan background. I recommend finding an authentic metaphysical shop that looks like it has legit stuff in it and see what books or items they have and explore from there. That has lead me down the path of learning the pendulum recently because I strongly connected with one in a shop I happened upon and found some fantastic books on inside. Good luck!

A nice cup of tea is 100 percent my happy place! I've been struggling with shadow work for a while now, my default is typically to not think about myself at all. Not really encouraging or accepting myself, but not degrading or critical either. Just pretending I don't exist most of the time. There's a lot of work to be done, thank you for this.

    • @Thewitchescookery

This was great!!! So many shadow work videos I’ve seen strongly discourage shadow work without a therapist and they emphasize how HEAVY and TRAUMATIC is can be and they don’t give the same empowerment you did to handle our own shadows 🖤 Thank you!!!

    • @Thewitchescookery
      @Thewitchescookery  2 года назад +4

So happy you liked it! One can definitely do shadow work alone and I highly encourage everyone to do it regularly 🙂 of course, if you want to work on shadows surrounding a heavily traumatic event, a therapist might be good to help you guide through it but for most people, that haven't dealt with anything like that, it is not per se necessary ☺️✨

Oh, I love your videos. Thank you for sharing this with everyone. I have always wanted to do some shadow work on myself. I am a combat veteran with P.T.S.D. and M.S.T. I have done a similar therapy to this. The Veterans Affairs calls it C.P.T. which means Cognitive Processing Therapy. It's pretty intense and it makes you dig into those suppressive memories and is supposed to help you heal. I did heal a little but I still have a long way to go. Thanks again so much and you have really opened my eyes up to other possibilities. I look forward to more of your videos in the future. Sending you lots of light and love. -Blessed Be

I hear you. I too am a vet, have a stress disorder and often become “dysregulated.” I learned the term from a couple of other channels on YT. Counselors were of very limited help to me as well - they seem only focused on short term trauma and visual flashbacks. But learning how to recognize “emotional flashbacks” as they are happening and then learning how to work with the dysregulation has been slowly life changing. A channel I watch, though my trauma was not a childhood thing, is Crappy Childhood Fairy. Anna focuses on Complex PTSD (which results from longterm inescapable trauma) and has great techniques for healing. Therapy in a Nutshell has been helpful as well - her approach is somehow calming but direct. I’m looking forward to seeing how shadow work applies. Blessings to you.

not sure if talking if your inner "child" would count as shadow work, but i did it the other day and it was a total eye opener. i didnt realize how much i was holding in, and ive been going to therapy for over 8 years for my anxiety and depression, this video was very helpful and i appreciate how much you really researched and gave pointers. a lot of the points you gave for feelings is exactly what my therapist recommends. im really glad to be able to heal past the religious trauma ive been dealing with with since i was a child and persue my interest in witchcraft thanks to your video :)

I've been looking into shadow work for a while now, but this is the clearest explanation I've found so far! The techniques you mention for really finding out your feelings are the same used by my therapist, so I've actually done quite a bit of shadow work already, and find myself grabbing back to those techniques in my daily life. I'm not in a place right now to do the really hard stuff with the deep shadows, but I've done some work already and I have some shadows that I know I have to face when I am in a more stable position. Thank you for this video and I would love to hear more in-depth thoughts you might have!

I will definitely be sharing more on the topic soon - I belive it is such an important one for everybody 💚

Thank you for mentioning that sometimes we may need help with shadow work. There are many shades of shadow. If we plan on doing some deep shadow work we must be in a place mentally to handle it. That is so important. Especially with trauma. I found I needed much support for that kind of shadow work and it took months to get through it. It can be hard and excruciatingly painful. I needed a hand to pull me through and out of it. I haven't done any real hard shadow work since that time and hope I never have to do it again. It's no fun. I have done lighter shadow work and I find that kind is an almost constant journey because things and situations pop up in my life on the regular that make me think hmmm...why did I react that way or feel that way? Regardless, yes! Being gentle and loving to yourself is so important. Really good video Bex.

So true! I actually think that doing shadow work with a therapist or coach can be most beneficial - suuuuuper important when dealing with hard stuff but also a true eye opener for "just" the little grey shadows. I am so glad to hear you were able to work through your story ❤️💪 And it is true - shadow work never really ends. It doesn't matter how well we think we figured ourselves out - we always create new shadows without even noticing.

I have never heard someone online or in a book describe shadow work as well as you just did in this video. I have done so much shadow work since moving away from home, specially moving out of my country. I am very resilient and due to having to work through many learning disabilities, I have this problem where I feel like I have to follow a system or steps to be happy because I was told for so long that I didnt do or think about things correctly from the get go. Having my world completely shaken was the best thing I could have done for myself. I am more of my authentic self today that I ever was back home because I moved away from the system that tried to change me in the first place. Shadow work is such a great thing and can be a very interesting process as well. It has brought me back to myself and allowed me to understand my family and everyone who has ever had an influence on me so much better. In a way, ive been able to help those i know do shadow work without them actually realizing. thank you for this video, i think it is the shadow work video we have been needing on youtube for a long time now.

Edit: shadow should be positive work and you helped me "see" a way of working. I did Intense CBT to get me on the path. My first therapist was a Jungian, trained at the Institute in Switzerland. She never spoke of that side of Jung. He used Tarot for goodness sake, that could have been fun. Instead we focused on shadow work which I was clueless about, I was 23.

And I couldn't agree more on finding someone that is licensed and also that you can connect with. Luckily in Germany the title of therapist is legally protected so at least you know they know what they are doing (well, on paper at least 😂). That is exactely what I thought when I was starting out xD Especially because no source explained it back in the days and everyone just kept writing how dangerous it was haha And yeeeees, maybe you get lucky and get a question about Jung in your exam. also: gooooood luck! Let me know how it went on Monday :)

As I work with Anubis, I do shadow work with him. It's super important to stop and take a break if you yourself feel overwhelmed or if you feel like your deity (if you work w one) feels like that. It's just that feeling.
Outcome of mine was I definitely need therapy again 🙃

Well thank you. Like yourself I have practised for many years. I found your channel in late 2021, and discovered something I could actually relate to.
How's this for synchronicity? I am teaching someone tarot. I am a retired teacher and have practised tarot myself for 46 years!
This week we are beginning the inner mysteries of the majors, that's cards 8 - 13.
I am having difficulties getting my student to understand that the majors are forces, they are not good or bad they just are.
Anyway as we are looking at cards 8, 9, & 10. We will be looking at The Hermit, the archetype of shadow work.
My student seems averse to the negative aspects of any of the forces in the cards.
On my RUclips suggestions line this morning, up pops your Shadow Work video. Perfect. I'm going to send her the link.
As an exchange of energy, thank you, and if you ever want a reading... (I never charge, but am ultra selective who I read for.)

I came across a book that made a light go off (on) in my own shadow work - "Existential kink" by Carolyn Elliot Phd.
she makes alot of sense out of looking at things from the other side, so to speak.
*not affiliated in any way, just worth passing along.

I have a question on that...
From what I understood from Shadow Work, I've done it a few times without realizing what it was and as a result, I understood situations that would trigger anxiety, fear, panic attacks or plain sadness. After I noticed a few kinds of situations where that would happen, I found that a good way to self-preservate was to remove myself from the situation all together whenever that was an option. That happens mostly when people are being transphobic to me, specially when they are family, or simple verbal abuses, or even when people want to show they are better than me by bringing me down.
So my question is.. by removing myself from situations that would provoke undesared feelings, am I running away from my shadows or am I being mature enough to know when to walk away before being lost in to such darkness?

What do you really admire about certain other people? Those may be "golden shadow" elements... repressed talents and such...

This could be like a shadow work intro, because it's - like you say - broad. It's still not quite clear on how to do it in detail. Like channeling - in my opinion it's the most important step in sh.w., but you didn't really expand on that. Thank you for what was said though.
