In this video I will do an unboxing and a review of a brand new release from Kino Lorber, the Philo Vance Collection on blu-ray starring William Powell and Jean Arthur.
This title was one of my most highly anticipated releases of 2024, and it did not disappoint.
Kino Lorber is an incredible label that is consistently releasing amazing titles, especially films that we have never gotten a blu-ray release for before. Please do follow them on all their social media platforms and keep an eye on their website for their regular sales where you can find incredible deals on their catalogue of films.
Thanks so much for watching!

I adore William Powell and will definitely be picking this up! Thanks for the early peek and your thoughts on it!
William Powell is really great! I know I said it in the video, but I really think this is such a fantastic release. I was so excited for this release when Kino made the announcement last year. Thanks so much for checking out this video and I hope you enjoy this title when you get a chance to pick it up.
Fantastic review video, Jon. You really have me interested in this set. I really appreciate the film history behind the first film being on the cusp of silent vs talkies. Very cool.
You did a great job reviewing this set and now I'm off to Amazon to look for this. Thanks so much for a sharing this with us. Great job! 👍👍
It’s a fun set of murder mysteries. You kinda have a grin on your face the whole time. I was trying to channel my inner Stephanie to do this review since you are literally the greatest at peaking peoples interest in a film while not spoiling it. After editing the video I realized that while I didn’t spoil the endings of the films I also didn’t even describe the plot of any of the films. Ha ha! Ah well. Thanks so much for checking out this video and I really hope you enjoy this collection!
Great review, John. I enjoy William Powell, murder mysteries and old movies, so this is right up my alley. I've got the WB DVD set which is a 6-movie set and includes Basil Rathbone, Warren William, Paul Lukas, Edmund Lowe and James Stephenson as Philo Vance. Hopefully KL will be able to release all of the movies some day.
I literally just learned today that beyond the 4 William Powell Philo Vance films there are numerous others. That would be great if they all could be released in Blu-ray collections. I am huge fan of classic films so I love Kino Lorber as they are always releasing older titles on Blu-ray for the first time. Thanks so much for checking out this video, I really appreciate it.
Got mine this morning, really excited! I hope they re-release the other films (and find the lost film, The Scarab Murder Case) someday too. I'll probably get impatient and grab the existing 6 film dvd release before any of that happens though :P
Glad to hear you picked up a copy! It’s such a great release from Kino and I’m so glad they put out titles like these. That would be awesome if the other films got a Blu-ray release too. Thanks so much for checking out this video, I really appreciate it!
Great pickup I was eyeing that release up .
It’s a great one! Thanks for checking out this video.
There have been seventeen Philo Vance movies to date. This collection is the first three in the series. Let this be Volume One of Six.
Wow! I knew William Powell was in four Philo Vance films but I didn’t know there were 13 other films with different actors. That would be great to have the other films in future volumes. Thanks for checking out this video, I really appreciate it!
Philo Vance is an American version of Sherlock Holmes with the police Sargent standing in for the Scotland Yard Inspector.
I thought they had fantastic and often very funny chemistry together. I really enjoyed them. Thanks so much for checking out this video!
Wm Powell I would kill to get it can't afford it though
I’d say keep your eye on Kino’s sales, I’m sure it will eventually be included in one of their future sales. Thanks so much for checking out this video!
