Bottom five defense for the last several years and you had fans and pundits saying they needed to draft a WR with the number 5 pick! You had highly successful college D linemen available at 34 and you pick WR. The first two picks are good to great players but they are not defensive players. So patience will be key when it comes to defense production.

You know guys, I am expecting a lot from the coaching staff. This team has never lacked talent. Herbert, Allen, Williams, Ekeler, Mack, Bosa, James, Samuel, Lindsley, Slater.....all those guys are highly regarded players and it's not like they were the only talented players out there. This is the only team with an elite quarterback that hasn't been a playoff team. Think about that. Tua in Miami, Josh Allen in Buffalo, Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, Mahomes in KC, Stafford with the Rams, Goff with the Lions, Burrow with the Bengals, CJ Stroud with the Texans. Jalen Hurts in Philly, Jordan Love in Green Bay, Deshaun Watson in Cleveland, Baker Mayfield w Tampa, Dak Prescott in Dallas, and Brock Purdy....Mr. Irrelevant, in San Fran....all the way to the Super Bowl. In a pass-heavy league, with arguably one of the best QB in the league, this team failed to make the playoffs in all but one of Herbert's years as QB. Wow. How many of these QBs would you take over Herbert?
The offense has consistently out performed the defense demonstratively. The Chargers have lost games that Herbert has thrown for over 30 points because the defense gives up more points. Last year the Raiders put up a 60 Burger on the Chargers with a quarterback that I still couldn't pick out of a line up. That in part because of injuries but mostly because the Bolts just gave up. Gave up on the game, the season, and the coach..
I think Staley was in over his skis. He didn't have tenured coaches to bounce things off of. He didn't tailor his schemes to fit the players he had. He was a brilliant football tactician, but he failed to communicate and teach his approach. It doesn't matter how brilliant your idea is if you can't get guys on the field to consistently follow the program. But Harbaugh?
This team is going to be different. He brought the band back. That running game is gonna be nuts. Two former Baltimore guys and that rookie Vidal look awesome. We don't know what Spiller has. But the TEs...blocking TEs. And yeah, you lost a pro bowler in Lindsley, but the Chargers didn't have him on the field last season anyway. So really you upgraded from Hiemas to Bozman. You upgraded Pipkins to Alt and you have some amazing coaches that are going to show just how badly last years roster was coached. And while we did lose Mr. Charger Keenan Allen, we got new blood in Ladd McKonkey. Williams left to the Jets, but again, we didn't have him last year either....and now we got Chark, Palmer is going to get coached up and we are in Johnstons's 2nd year. WRs typically take a few years to become what they were meant to be. Johnston was used in Williamsn role last year because of the injury and he was not playing to his strength so he could absolutely be awesome this year. And the other TCU kid is going to be a nightmare. He was already the best special teams player in the league and now it looks like they are trying to get him more involved. Herbert with a running game....a running game. Woof !
I wonder how the new kickoff rules are going to change the league. I think games are gonna be won and lost based on which teams figure it out the best first. It could be a really interesting season.

The Charger’s ownership as well as the previous GM and staff should be accredited for spending two first round

Outside Corner? I don’t think the Chargers are even going to have their corners running down field with the receivers. The CB will drop off the receivers that go deeper than 10-15 yards to the safeties. It’s the safeties that are going to be covering the receivers that go down field.

I think people like Daniel Wade need to remember how poor of a coach both Staley and Kellen Moore were… These players are GOOD, they just did not have a competent coaching staff. Also, I’m so tired of this “temper your expectations” talk… why??? Why should this fanbase do that??? The Chargers hired a coach that wins EVERYWHERE he goes. They hired a coach that knows how to WIN the right way. You think Jim Harbaugh is “tempering his expectations”???? You think Dean hired Jim to “temper his expectations”???? Do you genuinely think anybody on this team, both staff and player, is “tempering their expectations”???
No. This is a team that wants to win. This is a team that WILL win. This is a team that is not using 2024 as a throwaway season. Enough of this “tempering” bulljive. I’m not saying they’ll go 17-0, sweep the playoffs and become Super Bowl champions. They’ll be a great team, they’ll be in the wildcard, and they’ll surprise the league.
