It's been a while fellas haha. Hope you all had a nice new year with your family and those close. Thinking out loud I think going into next season two things must change. Trying to make QJ a thing which seems they try to force just to kill narratives he isn't good which if the goal is to win is ruining that and the second thing is Greg Roman. Greg Roman isn't known for being creative and when he is it's at the wrong time of the game like down by two scores and trying to do a screen pass for a loss to QJ haha. If this is a game about winning and not trying to baby everyone's feelings I think they should get what they could for QJ or make him a #4 on the team and replace Roman. After that its fixing the interior of the line via free agency/drafft, trading for a WR1, drafting a RB since this draft is littered with good RBs, draft a TE and then force on adding depth and starters on the DEF side of the ball for Minter to work with. Keep on doing a good job!

I think you guys are overcomplicating why this game went down the way it did. I also think you guys are being unnecessarily “shocked” by said result. Listen, that game was a manifestation of what is wrong with this team: 1. IOL is so, so bad. 2. Justin Herbert has NO other viable weapon besides McConkey. 3. QJ is what we always thought he was, a guy who heavily struggles catching the ball and a guy who’s got the physicality of a 5’6 person. 4. Dobbins isn’t an RB1, and Gus is clearly not going to be on a team next season seeing as his play has really dropped off since being with the Ravens. 5. Mack and Bosa are old in football terms. There’s only so much effort that can push you beyond your physical limitations. To me this means you cut Bosa, keep Mack and hope he’s at best your EDGE 2 in next season’s group. This loss showcased everything the Chargers have to, and will under Hortiz, improve upon. There’s nothing shocking about what happened. I get we all had higher hopes, but you have to realize the teams they lost 6 games to. They beat up on lesser teams and beat the Broncos twice but that team’s also in a bit of a retooling with a rookie QB. They didn’t find much success versus teams in the playoffs during the regular season. So it should come to nobody’s surprise that every single flaw was exposed on national TV by a team that’s a step or two ahead of the Chargers.

Anybody else not really caring about the loss anymore? Granted it’s been a week but 11 wins is a great result in year 1 of the HH era. The real win here is the culture they established. That’s where all great teams start.

We really need more play makers in our receiver group (besides Ladd), Palmer, Reagor, Darius, Smartt and even Fisk made a few good hard catches during the seasson, but not enough for the team to move forward in difficult situations. You cannot hope to Herbert made dimes on every single pass, the receivers need to make his life a little easy

The offensive line interior was horrible against the Texans. We couldn’t run the ball so the play action game wasn’t going to work. Dropped passes galore and head scratching play calls are just killing us. Still looking to the future with enthusiasm.

If you look at the team as a whole. The coaching staff did a great job throughout the season covering up our deficiencies. Unfortunately for the team the Texans attacked and took advantage of all of them. Plain and simple. This team we had was devoid of talent especially on offense and it showed.

This year was a success despite losing the playoff game. We set Harbaugh to such a high expectation that we looked past what he did all season. We knew all the flaws of this team, and we admired what this coaching staff was doing with it during the regular season. All the flaws just happened to exploited during the playoff game. Coaches can only do so much, then it comes down to the personnel and executing. We saw all year that the defense was plug and play, but we never saw that on offense. We and the coaches expected Herbert to elevate everyone around him on offense (which he did at times), but you can’t count consistent greatness out of those players (the IOL and Receivers) when you need it most. You give this roster to almost any other coaching staff and it’s a sub .500 team. What lost the game was lack of protection, lack of receivers, and lack of run game. I think if you added just one of those 3 things, the team would have faired way better and possibly won. Nobody’s going to admit to it for obvious reasons, but I truly think the fire situation going on that week inhibited the preparation for that game, and likely was affecting the minds of everyone. In the end, this team pretty much achieved the impossible, given what it was, and it’s going to be a better team next year because adversity makes you stronger. Also- An overlooked success of this season is that there were no major injuries. This was managed so well. We don’t know the severity of anything, but they seemed to nip all of them really quick and get everyone recovered in a reasonable time frame.

Fun fact: Harbaugh and Alex Smith went 13-3 in Harbaugh's first year with the Niners (after the team went 6-10 the prior season), won the division, finished #1 in the NFC and made the NFC Chamionship game. With the Chargers, Harbaugh and Herbert won 11 games, finished second in the division and fifth in the conference and got blown out in their only playoff game. Hmmm. . .

Yes I was a little set back at first. I agree with your final assessment of the season. Understanding that we simply do not have enough B graded level players is a major reason for the outcome of the season. When you look at the tape against the Texans pass rush it's absolutely disgusting lol. Imagine Herbert with a true Guard and Center when dropping back to pass! And of course weapons that can hold on to the ball!

  • @jonathangogol6118

They mismanaged the roster and didn’t put anyone in a position to succeed in the playoffs. Roman shit the bed, didn’t feature Stone Smartt at all, has no answers for all out pressure with any semblance of a quick game. He got Herbert killed repeatedly this year. His scheme is seriously flawed. It’s no wonder Lamar was horrible in the playoffs with him and as soon as they switch the OC Lamar starts having the best seasons of his career. I’m telling you Roman will just waste more prime years of Herbert’s career.

Guys I mean this with the utmost respect, I love you guys podcast. But it’s okay tho. We were never the Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, Lions, Eagles we were the Chargers who was 5-12 last year with not a lot of talent but overachieved with what we had. It was a great draft from top to bottom and a great Head Coach. I love Jessie Minter and he made our defense one of the best. But Greg Roman play calling all season was bad bad. The teams that we lost against physically beat us up in the trenches. Texans, Cardinals, Steelers, Buccaneers, Ravens. We’re not there yet and got a long way to go but we weren’t as good as everybody wanted to believe. But we’re okay. But Justin has to wear that narrative until he can step up big and win a playoff game. And that’s Real Talk. Until then it is what it is.

Yeah we stunk it up in the playoffs. But really, not too many fans thought we'd get 11 wins, get to the playoffs, wouldn't have a better team. I could go on and on but I won't. Herbert missed four games last year, so when you say they won five games in 2023 you have to consider that they only had their starting QB for 12 and a half games. So there's that.

What bothered me most about this loss is the national media was proven right about Justin herbert not being a winner. I no longer think he is top 5 QB, but more like a 10 to 12 QB. I don’t care about picks or bad throws, that can happen to any qb now and then. But he proved in critical situations his decision making is not elite. He did not run the ball at all against a terrible team against running QB’s, he instead forced throws. But the big one is when we were up 6-0 and got the turnover on Houston’s 40 close to FG range and he rolled out right and threw across his body deep to QJ. Herbert has 2 years of game tape to know QJ can never make a contested catch downfield, especially against that defense. That decision he made was that of a lousy QB, not an elite QB. He cost us that game. I have seen the best QB’s have poor games, but his decision making shows me he cannot win a Super Bowl. Looking back at his career i can now see this has been a common thread with Herbert in big games and situations. So that is my biggest wake up call about Herbert and our future.

    • @Bravo-Foxtrot-Whiskey
      @Bravo-Foxtrot-Whiskey 5 дней назад

I'm not as down on Herbert as you are. I think he's currently a top 5 - 8 QB in the NFL this year. He can get better with a second year in this offense (especially if it had a couple of good pass-catching TEs). However, I was frustrated by him pushing the ball to covered players instead of running the ball in this particular game. Especially the play you referred to where he forced the ball to QJ for no reason. I'd just encourage you keep your chin up. I didn't think we were going to win a super bowl this year. Hell, no one thought we'd even be a playoff team this year. But I think Herbert can definitely help us win one in the future.

They need to draft jared wilson if they are bringing boozeman back.

I'd rather shove-in chips for Drew Dalman and bring Bozeman back to play guard.

@ dalman is not a scheme fit

@@phazon100 Umm... He's exactly what we run. Dalman is an outside-zone run blocking maniac! Dalman came from Stanford where he ran the same schemes that Harbaugh ran, but under David Shaw. I'm not sure where you got that he's not a scheme fit, but he's completely what we do now. I'd argue that Jared Wilson doesn't fit our scheme, since Georgia DOES NOT run a zone blocking scheme.

@@Bravo-Foxtrot-Whiskey Something to keep in mind when looking at potential additions at Center for the Chargers are their run splits. 48.5% of Bradley Bozeman’s run blocking snaps came out of a gap scheme. Drew Dalman is very popular among the fan base as a potential replacement but he ranked last in the league in gap scheme snap % among qualified centers at 20%. His run blocking grade was 82.3 in zone and dropped to 65 in gap.

@@phazon100 Now go check our offensive line and see where he would rank on our team with those splits. Spoiler alert, he'd top Joe Alt (75.7 zone, 61.9 gap) and be just under Slater (92.6 zone, 66.0). Dalman would be a SIGNIFICANT upgrade for our OL. Regardless, the splits aren't the point. He's a very good, smart and young veteran center that would fit this team - He's proven in a Harbaugh style OL that can make calls against NFL defenses.
