    The stat, “only two 2nd through 7th round picks earned a second contract during Telesco’s tenure,” is literally unbelievable. We’ve been stuck in the mud all these years. I’m ready to start cheering for my team deep into the playoffs!!

    Ahhh one more thing. Have you two wondered why we haven't even TALKED to one or all if these guy? Gilmore, Simmons or Howard??? I'm pretty darn sure if we signed one or both, Gilmore or Simmons our secondary would be TOP NOTCH in the NFL!! What do you guys think about signing 1,2 or both of them? Thanks again guys. REALLY enjoy your show.

    Great show guys. I'm soooo Glad the Spanos family got rid of both of those guys. I'm just wondering why it took so long to fire tt? Sure a lot of our failure was because of terrible coaching staff. But after awhile you'd HAVE to say to yourself ( Spanos's) I think we've got a bad GM!! LOL One more thing. I think part of our drafting terribly would have to fall on the scouts too, right? Because obviously the GM and HC can't/ don't follow college fb like the scouts are paid to do.

    Jake you nailed it. But had you listened to yourself going into this draft, you would have never wanted to pick Harrison Jr, Nabers, Odunze or Bowers. I fired back at both y'all. Next year, we go corner or DT in round one. If I was a GM, I would never pick WR in round one.

    • @ChargersUnleashed
      @ChargersUnleashed  2 месяца назад +1

      No argument there as far who Dan and I wanted heading into the draft. We will stand by that. 100% with you on needs heading into next year’s draft. The IDL talent is stacked and they need to put a higher priority on addressing that position next offseason.

    As I often do, I listened to the pod on Spotify before coming here to comment.
    First don't confuse my comment; Hortiz is a HUGE upgrade over Telesco...and you are 100% correct, hiring Telesco to draft well & having him draft poorly was all the ammunition needed to fire him.
    However, making the comparison of A.J. Smith firing Marty after a 14-2 season vs keeping Staley after the playoff loss is disingenuous. Marty was fired because of 2 factors, fueding with the GM, and losing in the 1st round, yet again (Marty's career playoff record is 5-13, 3 wins with his 1st team, the Browns, 2 with KC in 10 years & 7 playoff appearances, and 0 with the Chargers). Marty was Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. In the regular season he was dominant & creative & took shots. In the playoffs he climbed into his shell became ultra conservative. We can argue that Chargers shouldn't have fired him, but you have to acknowledge his absolute ineptitude in the playoffs, anything else is revisionist history.
    Despite the rant, love the pod. Cheers guys

    Excellent idea for today’s topic. Maybe your followers would appreciate a comparison between the ideological differences between the Spanos’ BHH (Before Harbaugh Hortiz and AHH After H/H? Hopefully you guys have some insight into this. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
    Another point- Dead Cap Monies. We need to know what year will we be free from paying those ex-players salaries who don’t play for us anymore? When this glorious season comes, how will this benefit the Chargers ⚡️⚡️⚡️

  • @texmcboog

    When you look at the Ravens, they constantly churn their rosters with younger players, develop them and let them replace the players that are going to want big contracts. You let them go, sign a big free agent contract, get your comp picks, and keep bringing in the young depth. Telesco would sell the future for a gig splash today.

  • @texmcboog
    @texmcboog 2 месяца назад +1

    Also, winning, Harbaugh and “The Bolt” will be a huge draw for future free agents. Probably to the point of maybe a little less money in the contract.

  • @aaronshoup
    @aaronshoup 2 месяца назад

    Telesco seemed to think that you could only find good players in first 3 rounds. Some of his picks like Te'o should have worked out. But in terms of the lines, he completely ignored the OL and interior DL. The Bill Polian philosophy was to draft skill players and bring in veteran OL who still had a little bit left. But I think we saw what happens when you build from the outside in. You end up with no depth and flashy players who put up big numbers but no playoff wins.

  • @marcusreichert8566
    @marcusreichert8566 2 месяца назад +1

    Yeah Tom Telescos “build through the draft” philosophy didn’t work because of the point you made that rounds 2-7 weeks ago only signed Keenan and Pipkins to a second contract. Obviously that was a failure lol

    I am not a huge telesco fan but what chargers fans think of telesco is not what the league think of him. He got hired with in a month after chargers fired him. Tellesco is well respected around the league circles and most people think he built some of the best rosters in the nfl. Staley and McCoy and most of these terrible draft picks are mainly spanos especially Johnny boi decisions.

    Tagging Telesco in this is gonna drag a bunch of Raiders fans here to tell you that it was ALWAYS a coaching problem over the course of a decade and 3 separate coaches. And that even though the team consistently lacked depth, regularly failed to find value in late rounds, never once had a defensive line interior with legitimate productive talent, couldn’t get an OL established, barely had explosive speed and only having 2 playoff wins, all of that and more I can’t remember, is all coaching.
    Incompetence. Incoming. 😂
