WE DONT CARE ABOUT THE AUDIO. TAKE THE HINT.
Speak for yourself. I come for the Audio analysis more than the Video.
Actually I speak for the majority.
@@ddc2957
Probably. But the others also matter.
@@rolandrohde Well said. The audio matters very much to me as well.
Plain and simple. Selfish and wrong. The hobby is called AV for a reason. If you don’t care for A then that’s your choice. I have invested my hard earned savings on a decent audio system. You don’t speak for me. I am not your “we”.
Deal! There you go... Probably the 6th time I'm buying it! VHS, Laser Disc, DVD, DVD collector's edition, Blu-ray, now UHD! Can't wait to buy the 8K Steel book edition! 😲😂
Lol me too ❤❤❤
Relieved about the grain. The most surprising aspect to me as a relative newcomer to 4K viewing is the jaw-dropping appreciation of the exquisite film grain observed in 80s titles. It's cinema experienced again for the first time and I couldn't be happier.
Totally agree. The grain is a stamp of authenticity. It's an old movie, let it look old. Old things have their own beauty.
This is a must but for me so I’m glad to hear it’s a big improvement, thanks for the review
You'll love it. Bigger improvement than I thought it'd be.
Totally agree on the ATMOS mix. Very little object audio movement, but overall sound is crystal clear and spacious.
It is SUCH a classic, that I'm willing to forgive some "less than perfect" sound and video transfer. Still one of the most enjoyable adventures ever.
Those old LUCASFILM sound effects did sound like they were hitting wet turkeys with a baseball bat. The gunshots sounded like someone kicking on wooden frame doors. I love it!
Wet turkeys with a baseball bat ! Hahahahha
Close wet leather and baseball bats. And shot guns for handguns
I'm rolling over here lol
Mine is ordered and on the way can't wait..Raiders is my favorite of all time!
Bought the movies on VHS. Bought them again on DVD, followed by Blu Ray. Now the time has come to get them again in 4K. The triology (The 4th doesnt exist in my eyes lol), is one of my all tine favourite movies, with ranking The Grail as my favourite, Ark as a close second and Doom as the third (Still amazing though!!!)
The soft and blurry moments could be an issue with the source as a lot of older movies had issues with focus. They didnt have video assist when setting up shots for these movies so focus was always an issue particularly in darker scenes.
Mines on the way..raiders is definitely the greatest action adventure film ever made so I’m really pleased they have done it justice....
The review I’ve been waiting for. Thanks brother. My $90 preorder is justified. Crystal skull is gonna be a 10/10 review 😂😂😂😂😂 no joke
Yes!!! So happy this is a great transfer, can't wait to watch my copy when it comes in!
It belongs in a muse-
I mean MY COLLECTION!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I won't be able to fully watch it (Raiders) until Wednesday. However, it's going to be wonderful to revisit an old friend.
Indiana Jones collection is a great set . Like the spaghetti westerns of old. My favorite is Raiders and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I’m. Glad you gave it a good review.
I missed seeing what the actual ratio would look like when you would mention the black bars.
Learn to love the bars or get a scope front projection setup.
I love this movie with great sound effects that hypes to go with my soundbar with wireless subwoofer happy 40th anniversary (1981-2021)
That’s an outstanding review!!! Short and sweet...Muchas gracias!!! 🇨🇱
Can’t wait for this!!!
Shame the original stereo audio hasn’t been heard since the original tape & disc releases.
I have my set preordered but am still very disappointed they didn’t include all those different audio options as every mix is vastly different.
The fact that the grain is not heavy means they did a tun of dnr since this was shot on some of the grainiest film stock and has never not looked grainy.
Guess they must have scrubbed a tun of stuff to only get that grain this mild.
There is plenty of grain. It's very very fine and not very contrasting to begin with. The film stock was obviously some excellent quality. This applies to all 4 releases.
I just got done watching the 4K transfer and I still believe in physical media and this is the one movie that looks so much better so thank you and have a great evening and thank you for the great review of this movie
As a fan of the Indiana Jones movies the title of the film is simply Raiders of the lost ark.
Is the indiana jones 4k set a big jump from the blu ray set? I have the collectors edition set for blu ray so just deciding if it's worth an upgrade or not
Loving reviewing of the audio before video.
Shane, can you do a review of a Sonos beam, Sonos 1 surrounds and the sub in your room. Just put this in my living room and very impressed. I have a dedicated M&K theatre for reference and the Sonos setup really impressed me for what it is. Interested in your opinion
My set is arriving on Monday and I can't wait, huge fan of all of them! :)
Can't wait for my movies to arrive on Tuesday!!
Shane delivering the truth about the audio and video. Decent scores for a movie from 1981.
Year is irrelevant when it comes to film prints. Many 4K movies filmed anywhere from the 30s to the 90s put modern day 4K films to shame. As much as I love the MCU, they will never look as crisp as the likes of The Third Man, Psycho, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, They Live, Alien, etc.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Technology gets better every year so an 8k camera captures more than a 35mm camera. Film grain doesn't look crispy as much as some people like it for that nostalgic look. Actual film doesn't age very well. I don't think too many people would say The Shining looks sharper than Avengers Endgame. I get it that you enjoy how older films look on 4K but comparing a film shot in 1971 to a film shot in 2021 and saying the 1971 film is sharper and more detailed is completely absurd.
@@keepingupwiththejones2933 I agree though a small few older movies ie 65mm films like 2001 A Space Odyssey, Laurence Of Arabia etc do have more details than most 2021 films. Because 65mm film is equivalent to 8k resolution or slightly more.
@@C--A Yes you get it. Exactly why I didn't include anything above 35mm . Nice to meet a fellow film buff . Have a great day.
It's not an opinion, this is a fact. A movie recorded digitally in 8K can only be upscaled to higher resolutions as it is forever stuck at 8K. A movie recorded on film can be remastered to whatever resolution they want.
The new "Indiana Jones series" already started appearing on various torrent sites. Just got the former two with a size of 50-60 gigs each. Excellent picture and sound quality... combined with an LG 75" OLED TV and a Yamaha Dolby Atmos soundbar... an astonishing new world.
Good shit
Excellent review, dude! Subscribed.
My Best Buy steelbook was just delivered. Can’t wait to watch raiders of the lost ark tonight.
Why does it have to be snakes?
Another nice review shane, can't wait to check em out!
Nice that you reviewed an older film and gave recognition to it.
I remember seeing those blurry moments that you said in the dvd versions, so i think is more the way that it was filmed! Also thanks for the info on the sound, the majority of this new dolby atmos mixes in old movies sound very good.
Great! Looking forward to this!
Any info about the packaging? Strange that there are still no images/details of the North American regular package.
The reviewers for this set did not get the full retail package, just the discs.
Itunes upgraded the collection to 4k for free, so I am more than happy!!!
How does the audio for the standard Indiana Jones 4 Movie Collection released yesterday compare to the previously released Blu-Rays?
Thanks Shane, my set arrives next week.
It's called "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
Yup!
I mean yeah, but no. It's the original title, but they changed it a long time ago. That you still prefer the original title, doesn't make the new title any less official.
@@JakobFrankMogensen Why would they have changed it?
@@lukeskywalker6809 when the second and third films were titled 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' and 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', they changed the title of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' to 'Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark' to fit in better with the later releases.
One of George Lucas' early ideas were to have all the titles begin with Raiders of something, but since Temple and Crusade had Indy in the title, they changed the title of Raiders.
@@JakobFrankMogensen I understand why they changed it for consistency and for the young audience to find it but please don't f with greatness!! Raiders of the Lost ark was a great title and those orange letter fonts created the classic ...IMHO
with just HDR10, do you think the difference is big enough from the blu ray version? I already pre-ordered haha.
40 Years later and It Still Packs A Punch... Here's to Another 40!!
Great review! Do you know if the US version comes with Spanish subtitles? Greetings.
I wish they would've included the original Dolby stereotrack but I'm happy that they upgraded it to dobi atmos
In other news the upcoming 5th film will conclude the saga for good according to disney. No mountain this time though.
I hope you are doing all 4 movies 🎥
I'm definitely buying this 4k Ultra HD box set of Indiana Jones 👌
I think this is the first time I've not seen Shane mention the black letterbox bars... This is a sad day people.
I watched an older review from 2017 recently where he forgot to mention them 😂
It's not sad. The bars preserve the scope image ratio of the theatrical presentation. Otherwise for a movie series shot with anamorphic lenses, you would lose a good amount of picture information. A happy day indeed!!
iTunes Upgraded my Indiana Jones Films to 4K and Atmos at no additional charge. Pretty sweet Deal!
Roland Rohde so what??? Still no lossles DOLBY ATMOS audio track
@@jimcameron1234
True, but the DD+ Atmos Track is good enough in most cases since the actual soundtrack often doesn't contain enough data to actually need the high bitrate available in the lossless UHD Disc version...🤷♂️
@@rolandrohde Ok i see ok one point for you my brother
already preordered steels but its very nice to hear the 4k turned out good thanks
I'll be buying this for sure
Anyone know of options for wireless Atmos speakers. I have a 7.1 system with an Atmos compatible receiver. Should I get a pair or four overheads. TIA!
I have a 5.1 setup but I’ve got an Anthem Atmos receiver. I would love to have a full 7.1 Atmos set up but don’t know the best way to do it without cutting holes in my home theatre’s ceiling.
After seeing them on paramount plus I picked up the collection in 4K amazing
It seems like all the special effects shots have been futzed with and recomposited - did you notice anything in motion? Some screenshot comparisons look like they actually redrew some elements of the frame digitally (for instance during the lightning strike toward the end), but I wonder if it was at all noticeable?
Oh no
Is the u.s. box set bonus disc uncensored or is it just the uk set with the censored cut bonus disc.
Over exaggerated 🤣 they always were, that’s some of the charm of Indiana Jones.
Static Dolby Atmos? What’s the point then? That’s a little disappointing. I was hoping for a more dynamic re-mix.
I wish you could just buy this individually. The Temple of Doom and Last Crusade blurays hold up well enough that the upgrade isn't necessary imo. But the Raiders bluray is pretty terrible in many places.
Thanks! Too bad the atmos mix is not super active but thats fine with older sound mix. Glad dnr was not noticeable with 4k remaster. Lotr dnr was unforgivable. Thanks! Looking fwd to my copy this week
Good review. First one I have seen on this. No brainer 4k purchase for those who like to re-watch these movies. My wife should get it for me for Father's day. :o)
Is there a major difference between Dolby vision and hdr in the film?
My Boy!
My Indiana Jones 4K collection from Amazon just updated to not arrive until 6/20. Paramount really?? You guys got the Steelbook out just fine. 👿👿👿👿🤬🤬🤬
Can't wait to see what you say about the other movies
No subwoofer, I can’t live without mine now since I’ve upgraded to a good one.
I will compare this to my old LaserDisc version.
Will be picking this up thanks shane
I bought all 4 on iTunes for 17,99 all 4 look so good and sound great
Are those the 4K ones
Preorder can't wait. I have the bluray.
have they eliminated the awful teal and orange tint that was added in the initial blu-ray release?
I CARE ABOUT THE AUDIO!! PLEASE NEVER STOP GOING OVER THE AUDIO❤❤❤
Audio is more than half the expierence. Fact. Period. That's the majority
Fav of mine. Since you view with JVC 2000 for review I should see same on my JVC
While the video may be improved, the audio is not. Quite frankly, turning up the dialog so sound effects are drowned out compared to the old THX Blu-Rays which were theatrical reference levels (you could turn it to 0dB reference and not be hurting in the ears from dialog screaming at you) and here it seems they've not only NOT improved the soundtrack much at all with Atmos (the "in" thing seems to be to use Dolby Atmos for ADVERTISING PURPOSES, but do a lousy job with the actual sound), but I think they have reduced dynamic range in some places to please sound bar owners and TV speaker users. Fantastic! Nothing like a soundtrack DOWNGRADE to please TV owners that use built-in speakers....
Far worse, however is the LFE bass. As the review above states, you don't need a subwoofer because it appears many of the frequencies below perhaps 40Hz have been filtered out of the soundtrack almost completely in some places. Even with the Bass/LFE turned up 11dB (where it started to sound close to the Blu-Ray DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack), there were still points where it felt filtered as actual deep sub tones seemed to lack in explosions and even the thunderstorm. DTS-HD MA 5.1 + Neural X placed thunder effects further out into the room and overhead than the Atmos track did. In other words, they would have done better to just use the 5.1 + Neural X mix as an Atmos or DTS:X mix than whatever it is they did actually do.
I remember when Lucasfilm was synonymous with the BEST in sound and special effects. Now it's a Disney joke. I was hoping Paramount would object and do the right things, but it doesn't seem so. If they really wanted a baby soundtrack, they should have included it as an extra soundtrack (say instead of the French soundtrack) and put an actual immersive Atmos soundtrack in where planes fly overhead when they take off on the screen, for example.
Got it 😎
I have the 2008 DVD and I usually prefer the original colors, though I respect the 4K quality 2160p but the color tint is awful.
does the 4K version retain that horrible teal and orange tint they added in the initial blu-ray release?
Shane, I’d like you to be more harsh on the studios for static mixing atmos. There should be a minus 2.5 points for static alone. They’re claiming it’s in atmos, but it barely can be called that.
You have a .4 atmos setup. I have a .8, and that means that I’m even more limited. I also have a trinnov alt32/24, and have had it pro calibrated. But there’s only so much blending you can do.
I think us enthusiasts should hold studios more accountable for their lazy work.
Damn skippy!
disappointed with it. i agree its probably the best we are going to get with the source naturally. the blurs stood out. actually thought the bluray details looked crisper defined. the blacks where too black, alot of scenes would of looked better with subtle detail in areas instead of a percieved solid black shape depicting a a partial shadow in the intro jungle or the ark tomb, a reasonable request since many scenes ask you to overlook mysterious light sources for dramatic effect. hopefully ai could takle it one day making consistent sharpness and more detailed shadow areas.
Wasn't expecting a massive sound stage but the 4k visuals look like it's worth picking up. Just a shame the forth film kills the box set
I hate when they rename movies.....
audio and subtitles in Spanish?
As admittedly sad as this is, I will continue to bury my head in the sand and pretend a 4th movie was never made, even at the expense of not buying this set and holding out hopes for individual movie 4K releases instead.
Also while we're looking at legacy content, I'm still on the fence about forgiving Shane over having never reviewed LotR 4K. 🤪
Lotr 4K is easily the worst 4K I own. Selling mine once it goes oop
Wait why didn’t he?
@couldn't think of a username Oh, yeah I agree that is unprofessional. In my opinion, he’s a great reviewer for tech and physical media, but he’s not got the greatest taste in movies. I was literally like this 😳 when I saw that he put Transformers: The Last Knight as #1 on the top 4K Blu ray’s with IMAX scenes. He apparently thinks Batman & Robin is better than The Dark Knight Rises too lol. It’s all fine though, film is subjective and everyone can have their opinions. I just don’t agree with his film tastes.
Dude 8.9 ...lol.
Watched it last night on my LG OLED and was going back and forth with 1080p version and I gotta say video is a 7/10 for me . Like the HDR but overall picture is just ok for a new 4k scan.just my opinion tho.
Your tv is probably to small to see a difference 😉
@@therealshanelee it's a 65" and I sit pretty close to my TV ,but yes you maybe right. It ain't no 120" projector.
@couldn't think of a username I've got 4k displays from 40" up too 75" and most content looks amazing at these smaller sizes. Not knocking TV's but you won't really appreciate the resolution increases till you step up over 100".
@@therealshanelee every time you say that ,I don't know why I even bother with 4K on "small" TV like 65" even tho it's an OLED ...I should just go back to DVDs and VHS tapes 😅
@@kovalveli then you'd be missing HDR.
Feel free to skip Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The fuck is wrong with you
@@SquidkidMega I’m a dumbass I thought he said skip to. I didn’t realize he said to just skip it all together.
They changed the TITLE CARD?!?!?!?!??!?!
No?
They did not change the title in the movie itself. The younger crowd don't know it's just called Raiders of the Lost Ark.
It's the same movie that's been released 10 times you've already seen it don't waste your money.
Like the picture and audio can be upgraded since is was made BEFORE 4k was even a thought.
That's like dumbasses buying the Wizard of Oz in 4k Blu-ray.
Film has a higher resolution than 4k
Haven't seen it yet, but it looks MILES (it's not the years, honey--it's the mileage) better than the abomination that was the 1080p blu-ray!
abomination?? the blu-ray was excellent
@@Slask7 You clearly never saw Raiders in a cinema in 1981. The blu-ray was a pale, bleached-out highlights with fake orange teal facsimile of how it looked in cinemas in 1981.
@@kthx1138 I know Spielberg changed the color grading, but it was not that bad. Plus, do you remember exactly how a movie was screened 40 years ago? And you're sure the theater screened it properly?
Anyway, the 4K is the definitive release, it's the best it's ever looked, and that's the important thing.
Wow very early.
*2160p not 4K
There's no "Indiana Jones" in the title either.
**FACEPALM**
On a big screen ! Really disappointed ! I can’t understand why a movie like the 10 commandements is far better .. fed up with Dolby atmos ! Few people only are equipped with ...
There are no records.

I just love 3 movies only
I almost wish I could order this set without Crystal Skull
Ehhhh... Just watch the other 3?
@@Casanovamorris I’d rather save money off that one disc
Yeh! But its Dolby dull vision.
The cinematography never lent itself to eye scorching visuals. Murky settings and dank caverns for the most part.
@@dan_hitchman007 Dolby Dull!
Sorry guy , the best this movie ever looked and sounded was when it was released in theater s 40 years ago... ..
Lol fake video- they used the AI upscaled torrents. 4K blu ray not even released yet.
Lol stupid comment. Try understanding what your watching.
Remember you never see Shane put a disc in a machine or show you the box or cover art. Doesn’t take anyone with half a brain to work out why that is!
He gets the releases early for review
reviewers get early copies dingus. it's a way to drum up sales and get free advertising
Funniest comment I've read today
I hate film grain!
It's part of the aesthetic and the image captured on film negatives is made up of photochemical particles. I love it because I know what it is and why it's there. Far more organic than clinically clean digital.
@@dan_hitchman007 it sucks
@@thedarknate08 Not really.
