Sound Testing new versus old guitar strings | Hear the difference (or not)

I've always been told that new guitar strings sound better that older strings, in this video I put my assumption to a simple test using D'Addario NYXL strings and a Gibson Les Paul Classic. To my surprise the difference, tone wise, is less noticeable than I would have believed. Of course I'm still not going to switch my habit of changing strings religiously when a guitar is in active rotation. New strings feel better to play and are less likely to break in my experience, even though the sound difference might not be as big of an issue.
