  • On this episode I show you how I have my Canon R series cameras setup to record video in real time and slow motion using a super simple setup to not slow you down in the field.
    Same setup will work on the R3, R5, R6, R6MKII, R7, R8, and the R10.

    You are 100% correct about how to use the autofocus buttons. Using the method you use, I have never had my camera hunt or miss focus. Doesn't matter whether I use my R5 or my R7.
    I really like the way you set up your cameras and how you teach doing it. I like a simple setup. In the heat of the moment the last thing you want to do is try to remember what button does what. If you have to reference a cheat sheet first you have missed the shot.
    Great images and video as always.
    Good job on remembering to add Don's IG in the description. 😀

    Thank you - I’m a stills photographer and I appreciate a shortcut to using the video functions I don’t have the time or inclination to understand 😊

    I like the tip for having two modes for video with easy access. The Canon R7 is my first good video camera and I'm loving take videos with it. I still want to test the slow motion. Thanks for the video!

    Thanks so much, Scott! I rarely shoot video, but when I want to take a short clip of a bird, now I'll be all set. Going to set my R7 up for this. I wish it was as easy for the R5.
    Just gave Don a follow on IG. Beautiful photos!

      The same setup will work with the R5 kinda. I have a video on how to set a quick button to jump from still to video with your custom settings. you can watch it here. ruclips.net/video/Qn-xVKOQMHI/видео.html

    Great video!!! I am the proud owner of the R7 and mainly shoot stills. So this video is what I needed. Question. What do you set your ISO and f-stop to for video? Auto? Thanks for the great tips!

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  Год назад +1

      Apeture is just what you need for depth of field. I Use Auto ISO as the scene changes a lot at times and some of the time im not holding the camera so cant adjust it on the fly.

    I just put the settings in my R7. Question .... must I be in M mode to use this or will it also work in Tv mode? Thanks Scott!

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  Год назад

      IN M mode for the setup. TV should be about the same and start shooting manual :P lol

    Question on shutter speed (R7). If I am in M mode shooting stills at a high shutter speed and then hit the red button, does the shutter speed adjust to 2x frame rate (e.g. 1/50) or do you lower the shutter speed first? It seems to be in auto exposure mode so I assume it sets it “correctly” . . .

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  3 месяца назад +1

      The record button just goes into a default record mode at 30fps

    Loved the killer whale footage Scott. Grabbed my R7 while you were talking but got slightly lost on how to set FHD 119. There us a single FHD button but its setvset itself at 100fps. Do I need to set fps somewhere else?
    Thanks

    So Scott. If I'm in 179.8 fps with my r6 mk.2 and my adapted ef 100mm to 400mm L2 shooting slow motion video of osprey in a dive. I leave my shutter speed as if I'm taking photos of a dive? Like 1/3200?. And thanks.

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  3 месяца назад +1

      No. You would have your frame rate double your shutter speed. So 1/360th or so.
