    Yep, we saw that song played live in Hollywood! The infamous DT shut down gig by the fire dept. back in 99. I was also with you on the talk with MP. I remember him being in some booth at NAMM and no one was in line for him. We got to chat for a while. Fun times!

    Man so glad you bring Dream Theater to the channel, hope to see more soon. You need to check their newest album tho, so fresh yet kinda have similar vibe with their older pieces. AND, many people said this is the best sound out of their other albums, the album called A View from the Top of the World.

    • @StrateleStudios
      @StrateleStudios  2 года назад +1

      I definitely want to check out their new album. They amaze me from a technical standpoint but I loved some of their more melodic ballads. I hope they bring some of that back. 😃

    This song was a goal of mine at one point, and I essentially recached it (drums!), but drums were never the same after that. Things you’re not told about having goals, and why you continually push the bar higher and higher, is because… once you’ve reached that elusive goal, it leaves you feeling kinda empty so you gotta find something higher, more elusive, muster more energy… I just couldn’t after this song dude 🥹

    Loved the personal stories and the pix were great. I've basically enjoyed Dream Theater since they first arrived. Kept up with everything kinda like you til Portnoy left. I will say this-for me at least-they have all the chops in the world but unlike, oh say Dirty Loops they don't get my emotions going particularly. I say this as kind of chops snob too. But that real emotional connection is what ends up holding me tight. Thanks.

    • @StrateleStudios
      @StrateleStudios  2 года назад +1

      For me as well. The emotional connection is not there for me but the technical aspect is amazing. There were a couple of ballads off “Images and Words” that I did have a connection with but they don’t really write like that much anymore.

    Meryl Christmas Jeff. If I can I would recommend a song with Sabaton, called Christmas Truce. If you are interested to hear an super voice, listen to an old opera singer called Jussi Bjorling and the song O helga natt. Probably not for your channel, but for your self.

    • @StrateleStudios
      @StrateleStudios  2 года назад

      Hi Hemlig! I saw Sabaton open for Delain (who opened for Nightwish) a few years back. The lead singer from Sabaton was such a great entertainer! He is so incredibly funny it’s what I remember most about the concert. I’ll definitely watch it for my own enjoyment! Thanks for the suggestion. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄

    Dream Theater were my entry into the world of Progressive music, and I just jumped right on over from Trivium lmfao, heard that infamous solo from Under a Glass Moon and had never heard anything like it; they carried me through college and uni, drum grades, etc, and I still listen to them today, but much less so - that intense listening has been replaced by Arch Echo and bands like The Enigma Division and Aviations (as well as some far heavier stuff by Slaughter to Prevail or Hunt the Dinosaur hahaha!). Also did a dissertation on some of their music at the end of my undergrad 😅

    No Prisoners!!! That´s YES on todays standards and I know that groups like YES and Genesis are role models for them, right? I think of Al DiMeola too. And also their lyrics are meaningful and deep (when there are any ;-).
    This is definetely a show where the orchestra isn´t just beefing up simple chords but really had to prepare, I guess they had a fun time doing this ;-)
    Thank you Jeff for being so diverse in presenting music on your channel and I always can learn something and be entertained at the same time. Keep on mate and... happy Christmas holidays for you and Kim!

      Thank you Matt! Yes you are right about their influences (they also site Rush as a major influence). It amazing me what we as humans can achieve when I see technical performances like these. Have great Christmas my friend!!!

    Hey Jeff, another great band we share! 🙂 Here´s my favorite song from them, "Barstool warrior" from the Distance over time-album. Overall such a great song, but John´s guitarplaying and solo in this one is outta this world! Goosbumps a la carté!! And yeah - play loud! 🙂

    I don't know if you're already familiar with the band, but for more proggy metal type stuff, a reaction to Baard Kolstad's drum playthrough of The Sky Is Red by LEPROUS would be cool! Pretty unique Norwegian band, and Baard Kolstad is an amazing drummer. Probably won't be what you expect.

    I'm sorry, but none of the people writing here remembers a single fragment or a single riff from this song anyway. I'm sure of it because only true fans can remember such things, but not a normal person. I love music, but Dream Theater are terribly "boring", their virtuoso performances are of no interest to anyone anymore because their music no longer creates a whole, only "virtuosity" and not a musical group ... So what if someone is a really good musician if this and does it not reach people?

    • @symbiosisai
      @symbiosisai Год назад

      I disagree, after listening to Dream Theater i find most other forms of music "boring"
