    I am in Central Texas zone 8b. I think snowmaggedon got to about 5 degrees. I lost an olive and a eucalyptus that was 9 feet tall (was suppose to be a small bush). All the fruit trees survived the cold. The heat is another thing. I lost one apple and one cherry, although it might be to a blight or borers. I am only on 1/3 acre including house and driveway and I have 2 peach, a nectarine, 3 apples, one plum, apricot, pear, mulberry, 3 figs, grapes, elderberries, and almonds. I also have 13 roses, some really big flower beds and a good sized veg garden and 3 raised beds. I am busy and broke, lol. Oh, I forgot I also have 2 lemons and a banana and an aloe vera in the garage, and they refuse to die.

      Did you have them all in pots or ground? I'm zone 8b as well Texas and I'm debating if I should plant in ground my fruit trees including a lemon Meyer tree.

      @Centex Hi there. I’ll be moving to Hubbard which is close to you next year. What fruit trees have you or plan on going with? My folks are there now and have had success with peach, plum and banana.

    • @Chebito710
      @Chebito710 Год назад

      @@blacrodfly1901 well you can technically grow about anything here, it’s just all about the strain. Like for apples they can grow Granny Smith, or golden delicious.
      For Hubbard look up “best fruit strains for climate zone 8a”. Anytime you’re in a new location in life, look up “the city, climate zone” and find out what you can grow!.

    Anyone here grow persimmons in Texas?!

    • @variyasalo2581
      @variyasalo2581 2 года назад +3

      I'm in Devine, south central Texas, z9a. I have several persimmons. One came back up from the root. One is about 4 years old but hasn't fruited. But this year I had not fruit on any if my 30 trees because of the drought. I have about 10 trees (1 persimmon) and several bushes around my duck pool that are in dappled shade and are doing well (but still no fruit this year!) because of bottom watering. I have root knot nematodes in my soil so I may keep the one in a big pot by the pool. It's tough to grow any trees here, you must plant in fall, no later than the end of January, to allow sufficient root growth. I also let my in-ground trees sit around the pool an extra year before planting out. Trial and error wherever you live! My area is somewhat comparable to the Mediterranean with desert mixed in. Keep fertilizing 3x a year, too. When you plant get raw fish from dollar tree and put in the bottom, cover with soil or some stinky stuff if you have dogs. HEAVY mulch, hich depends on where you live. I use pieces of cardboard under coastal hay, woodchips, wherever I can get. I haven't tried American persimmons, but I will this fall to hedge my Oriental non-natives. Good luck!
