Okay so she said she has 38 years in aviation but most of it as a flight attendant. But here is what I like. I think she paid attention very well in those 38 years. Her communication is so precise, so concise. So clear and to the point but yet so simple and well understood. She says it slowly without any attitude without any arrogance. Not too slowly she says exactly what she has to say right when she has to say it. It's awesome to see how calm she is. Instead of coming in with this attitude of "in my 38 years I know everything about flying" and this and that like she's so confident so aware of the situation. It's inspiring to see this positive attitude where someone can learn so quickly and obviously you would if you'd been in that industry for that long. Even without your hands on the controls I imagine 38 years around pilots flying aviating navigating communicating preparing for emergencies understanding the air space understanding the controls understanding the engine understanding the limitations and the weather and all that stuff. But at the same time it's like she simplifies everything so well like a kid could watch this video and think that he/she could a helicopter. The positive attitude incredible I really think that positive attitude you can learn anything if you keep your mind open and you stay calm and clear was very good communication. Very inspiring. I love to see this kind of stuff. Many good things in your future
What a delightful person Kathy is. I’ve only have had two flights in a helicopter both times were spectacular especially the puddle jumper with no doors.
I worked for Mesa Air, 2-3 Puddle jumpers, a small 2 prop, Beechcraft with Mesa Air on the vertical, Bombardier CRJ-100 Series Bombardier CRJ-700 Bombardier CRJ-900 De Havilland Canada DHC-8 Dash 8 Embraer ERJ-145 America-West Express piloted by Mesa Air
Pilots like Kathy are a big reason I subbed this channel long ago. Bobby finds the most interesting aircraft and some great people. A big thank you to Kathy for her friendly, kind support and the great ride. Safe skies always !
That piece of string is called a Yaw string to let you know if you are slightly yawing one way or another, We used them in fighter aircraft for the same reason. especially during competition.
I know you look familiar I traveled 85 % of my working careers, 21 Air Force, 18 Dept of Defense, 18 Ford motor and I have been on a ton of flights and corp jets and you sure do look familiar and very friendly I would never forget. I enjoy watching Bobby and enjoy all he does. Wish I would have gotten my lic years ago as I have been through ground schools several times and even applied in the air force to fly day I was to go to flight school they washed me out for age. I was 37 at the time now 71 I just I guess gave up on finishing Air Force but while working I was gone all the time all over the world so I should have made some changes but not sure why I did what I did but here we are... I have watched this video twice now looks awesome. ENJOY !
Love this video. I am only familiar with the R44 because I have a client that I am searching for one to purchase before the end of the year. We got close with 2 different ones that I found but one could not be sold after all and one just went under contract today. After seeing this video, now I want to learn to fly one! If anyone may know of anyone that has a 2015 or newer with low hours to sell, I would be so grateful if you could let me know. What a very gracious lady. I have wanted to get my private pilot's license for planes but now, I am rethinking that.
I thought I had already subscribed Bobby but This was on the side of another video and caught my eye. Well Worth it.......Cathy is such a pro and puts you at ease with her calm demeanor right away. Thanks Bobby and Cathy WELL DONE!!!!!!........That was informative and most of all fun.
Neat ride, and different. Any doing a little math, your pilot looks 20 years younger than she has to be. And amazing accomplishment for her full transition to pilot. She seemed very confident and competent flying.
My son is a helicopter CFI and I have had the privilege of flying in R44 and Bell 407 and 206 helicopters with him. It’s a truly exhilarating experience. Great video Bobby. Kathy is a wonderful ambassador for rotary wing flight.
I got my commercial helicopter license basically on the Army dime. I fly both fixed and rotary wing, but much prefer rotary any day. There are so many more possibilities. Cathy is such a pleasant and humble person. Well grounded.
I am a Cessna 172 pilot. I looked into transitioning to a Rotorcraft. The CFI I met with told me to not think that just because I was a fixed wing pilot, that Rotorcraft would be easy. He said, "it's like trying to stay balanced on a greased beach ball"!
I was a 20,000 hour fixed wing pilot when I took heli lessons. Fixed-wing knowledge is actually a detriment. As I struggled more than I thought I should be, I read in a training manual why. A fixed-wing aircraft is inherently STABLE. A rotor-wing is inherently UN-stable. While hovering, you can't even take your hand off the stick long enough to switch radio frequencies.
Don't know about full size helicopters, but RC helicopters are a hand full compared to fixed wing. The best way to get a bit of a feel for what it involves is to start with a 1' square piece of plate glass. Hold the plate of glass parallel to the ground and put a smooth glass marble in the center of the glass pane. Go outside in a 10 or 20mph wind and try to keep the marble balanced in the middle of the plate glass! Good luck.
Kathy I flew for American for 17 years based at DCA with a short stint at DFW as a 727 CA, before AA I was an Army helicopter pilot and instructor in Huey’s. After AA I flew 3 years as a medivac pilot in a Bell 206L4. I have 3500 hours of RW flying. I would recommend that going cross country at 1200 agl just to give you some more choices if you have to autorotate. Never get complacent those helicopters can get out of hand quickly and all ways assume that all roads have wires. You and your partners should consider getting wire cutters installed on your Robinson they’ve saved the lives of quite a few people including several of my Army buddies an medivac friends. And never fly on marginal weather days or at night in any weather. . Wearing a helmet can help you survive a crash an nomex suit. I know that’s a lot but like they say a helicopter in made of thousands of parts that want to be somewhere else. Take care and enjoy those grandkids.
I flew on a lot of Black hawks in the military, as a combat guy, not a pilot, but took a fascination to helicopters. After the military, took fixed wing flight lessons, but a few years later my Wife surprised me with first 5 hours with a helicopter flight school as a Christmas gift. Only because of me joking around, every time she asked what I wanted for Christmas, I responded with "a helicopter". Of course, she couldn't get me a helicopter but she gave me a reason to take the time to get started. Started training in a R22, then stepped up to a R44. It's awesome, but not a cheap hobby!
I've ridden helicopters several times - Kennedy to LaGuardia airports. Noisy. This was a fun flight. If it was affordable, this would probably be my choice of flying for flights with these kinds of attributes. Cathy was a very nice pilot.
Great video, easily understood, good camera placement. Great to hear a woman's perspective on aviation. With her calm demeanor it must be relaxing to enjoy the ride!
Delightful interview and helicopter flight! Cathy seems to enjoy taking the Robinson out and about and sharing the experience too. I've flown a few times in helicopters but didn't certify to fly one. As a fixed wing aviator the experience to follow along with the pilot was fun. One can't beat the ability to take off and land just about anywhere!
Cathy was a true pilot and professional. BTW, Eagle's Nest is home of the pilot who owns the best Piper Tomahawk ever and his other Piper 4 seater plane. Flying Doodles did two episodes on the the two Pipers
Females have absolutely ZERO business in the cockpit of anything that flies. They have quite the history of poor decision making under stress and pressure. Go check your balls, are they still attached?

Thanks for this flight! (this video popped up after viewing a Micah Muzio helicopter trip up the CA coast).
I’ve been up in a helicopter about 3 times in my life. Enjoyed every minute of it. I would like to go with her. Since I live about half way between Dallas and Houston it would be a short drive. Loved the video!

Grumman Tiger? Cool. F-11 or AA-5B? (both are sweet) // Cathy, I assume you were one of those lovely and real flight attendants, from before "this era". Egad, what a difference. // I see the vibration in the pedestal and remember my flight in an R44 in 2010 or so. Lots of fun. I love helicopters. Thanks for sharing this.
@LJ Prep Thank you, that’s so nice of you! Yes, I love my F/A job, and still wear a smile every flight (hence the smile lines!). I fly a Tiger, which I also love! It’s a AG-5B, and it flies so nice. I’m building my time and ratings to see where I go, but for now I’m happy to serve my passengers :)
What a beautiful lady and great story shared. It is unfortunate to find out the Robinson 44 has a very poor safety record with a report of 42 fatal crashes between 2006 and 2016 in the USA alone. A crash rate much higher than any other civilian helicopter. Most crashed apparently do to adverse flying conditions allowing the main rotor to contact the tail section. Cathy has made several reply’s regarding the R44 so we must assume she is aware of the poor history. You can lead a horse to water but you cannot force it to drink. One can only hope she never experiences any such conditions.
Sounds like she’s having fun! Cost of ownership - fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc. - is huge….Wonder what the insurance portion amounts to? Looks like some of the hangers are taking advantage of solar!
Cathy seems very humble and reassuring. I'd fly with her! I did find her emphasis on the "safety record" a bit strange though, given there have been a number of SBs and ADs on this type centred on fuel tanks and rotor failures and a fatal accident rate of 1.6 per 100,000 hours... compares very poorly to most other popular civilian helicopters!
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. She had a great personality. Her narration was excellent!
Okay so she said she has 38 years in aviation but most of it as a flight attendant. But here is what I like. I think she paid attention very well in those 38 years. Yea first video I have seen with the Helicopter great ride there Cathy enjoys very much, being wondering about this type of flight .
I never met a flight attendant who was this humble and sweet! She is a rare find!
Wow, great guest. Thanks Cathy and Bobby
Lovely lady so cool I really respect people that do stuff like this she is what makes America Great!

Outstanding episode Bobby. Cathy is an absolute Angel AND and awesome pilot. Thanks for bringing this one to us !!
Cathy is such a beautiful person, very competent and so humble too. She should be very proud of herself. 🌈👩✈

Good going, Cathy!
Awesome video, thanks for the ride along
That vibrating box, gets my attention a lot.
Best Flying Doodles episode yet. Thanks Bobby!
I`ve done some dual time at Kenosha with Bill Bruns in his Citabria. He always let me fly back upside down.
Haven’t been watching for awhile but this was as good as any other episodes I’ve seen previously. Well done.
Hey thanks for the ride 🚁

Love the Robinson R44 great little helicopter. Cathy is a great pilot and a wonderful spokesperson for rotary wing aviation.
Cathy is so delightful, great flight and interview.
Kathy really enjoyed your video ,the Robison seems to be easy to fly, enjoy your helicopter!
I've ridden helicopters several times - Kennedy to LaGuardia airports. Noisy. This was a fun flight. If it was affordable, this would probably be my choice of flying for flights with these kinds of attributes. Cathy was a very nice pilot.
Good for you, always need to have a great demo on hand...
Very cool story Kathy. Enjoyed the flight. The video footage was very smooth considering the apparent vibrations, must've been the pilot!
Hi is there a way I could email you directly, wanted to send you a link to an Interactive eBook I created on Aircraft Spotting. Thanks so much.
She is a great pilot. I’d love to take a ride. So professional.
You are a true submissive. Go check your balls, make sure they are still attached.
Great video, easily understood, good camera placement. Great to hear a woman's perspective on aviation. With her calm demeanor it must be relaxing to enjoy the ride!
What a beautiful lady, inside and out. We need more people like Kathy. It looked like a lot of fun.
I always love flying with cathy.. She is such a good pilot.
Time for another visit!!! 🤠
Delightful interview and helicopter flight! Cathy seems to enjoy taking the Robinson out and about and sharing the experience too. I've flown a few times in helicopters but didn't certify to fly one. Cathy was a true pilot and professional. BTW, Eagle's Nest is home of the pilot who owns the best Piper Tomahawk ever and his other Piper 4 seater plane. Flying Doodles did two episodes on the the two Pipers

What a lovley lady, and so enthusiastic,
Great episode, I'd fly with her anytime. She really gives off a great feeling that she knows what she is doing.

She's a pro. I rode in a Robinson just like that at an air show in Susanville, CA.
Very enjoyable episode . Helicopters have always fascinated me and I never pass up an opportunity to ride in one.

Ms Cathy you're a treat! you and your Heli!
Thanks for sharing!!
I enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing. I’ve flown a Robinson 44 for years now and it is a superb helicopter.
Cathy is a Rockstar, what a great lady. Truly has a passion for avionics.
Did she mentioned Robinson SAFETY RECORD? 😮
Cathy, you are a Rock Star. We are also neighbors in a way. I am in Wylie area.
Beautiful helicopter also. Love that color.
Would recommend Cathy do a little more research on Robinson safety record.
What a wonderful person. Such a professional. It's been my dream to learn to fly that exact same helicopter. Now that I'm retired maybe it's time to learn.
