Marco reps recently made a video about an ethercat spindle and drive. That would be a heck of an upgrade for the Maho! Apparently because it’s a servo with encoder, you can do operations like rigid tapping. I don’t remember who he got the spindle from but it might be worth talking to the company who sent him the spindle and see if they are willing to send you one as well.

I had a similar welding experience yesterday. I must preface this by saying that it was late in the day, I was tired and the daylight was dimming. I found this piece of scrap metal that looked like mild steel. Dark grey slag and a little rust from the scrap pile. I cut it, no sparks. That's weird I thought. "let's just get this tacked in before the sun goes down" I said to myself. I start to tack it, It lights up real bright and won't' take a weld. "Enough of this nonsense, I'll deal with this tomorrow." In the light of day, the day after, it turned out to be brass! I never thought that could happen. How did that get into my scrap pile. Live and learn.
🎵 I want to buy some Maho merch! Ma-Ho, Ma-Ho Merch... 🎶 (Though if I'm totally honest, I thought the whole "I need a hero" thing was my personal fav... from the vid where he's machining Johnny 5's antenna. I dunno why, even, but I still giggle every time I think about it.)
Fantastic video. A bit more on servos.. Not all of them have batteries. The reason that servo has a battery is because it has an absolute encoder (this is how it can "remember" its position through a powercycle.) Some servos, like Allen-Bradley servos, use an incremental encoder but rely on the controller to maintain reference. In the machinery I work with on a daily basis, German paper converting equipment, there are many servo-driven elements. Since they're using incremental encoders, we have reference sensors on particular parts of the machine that the controller uses to "home" an axis. I've recently started watching your videos regularly and I'm really impressed with the amount of information you're relaying to the audience. I've learned a ton from you and I really appreciate the content. I've decided it's time to get a mill myself and stop using the ones at work for home projects. Originally, I wanted to get a CNC mill but the more I watch your videos and a few others on RUclips, I think I'd be better off getting a manual mill and adding CNC capability. This video may very well have catalyzed that idea. Thanks again for the great information and the laughs!
Genuinely one of the best description of closed control loops, I wish I had seen this earlier. When I was diving deep into it a few months back for a servomotor project, all I could find was way too high level explanations and block diagrams showing the frequency domain equivalents. Went through page after page of wikipedia, going back and forth from the control theory page to dozens of other pages it referenced, spending many hours learning about non-important contextual information, just to learn that it means it has a sensor that is compared against the input and thats how it knows where it is and how to get to where it wants to go. So about 10 seconds of your explanation was more valuable than hours of articles.
Not sure if I ever mentioned that before, but I freakin love your bone dry humor and thos dad jokes you toss around. Plus your videos are super informational! Absolutely love it!
Is there any content creator more perfect for watching and learning enthusiastically as well as listening and relaxing for sleep with the same exact videos? Love you, TOT!

Thanks for saying it is okay to skip around, I SHALL NOT I am here for the duration😎
"I hesitate to share this..." omg tony. i died. well played.
My wife *really* loathes Tony for introducing this one to our household.
Fun fact: I watched the whole thing in one sitting - without pausing! My only regret is not having more popcorn. Ran out about halfway through.
When is the “Maho maho man” t-shirt design coming out?
Might I also suggest "THE Maho Man"... OOOOOH YYYYYEEEEAAAAAAH
Maybe there's licensing problems because of The Village People's seminal 1978 album, "Maho Man".
🎵 I want to buy some Maho merch! Ma-Ho, Ma-Ho Merch... 🎶
(Though if I'm totally honest, I thought the whole "I need a hero" thing was my personal fav... from the vid where he's machining Johnny 5's antenna. I dunno why, even, but I still giggle every time I think about it.)
I would buy that t-shart

Hi Tony!
Amazing content, as always.
Can't wait for Episode II: The return of the MAHO
I'll keep my popcorn ready
I feel like I've been waiting my whole life for this
Genuinely one of the best description of closed control loops, I wish I had seen this earlier.
I tried skipping around..... smashed my shin into the coffee table, twisted an ankle and sprained a wrist when I landed.
Alternate title: "Moving in with MAHO."
"When Tony Met Maho". Substitute the grinding ball nut sound for whatever Meg Ryan was trying to demonstrate in that coffee shop scene.
Not sure if I ever mentioned that before, but I freakin love your bone dry humor and thos dad jokes you toss around. Plus your videos are super informational! Absolutely love it!
when i though i counldnt like this man any more, he goes ahead and calls football for football!
I love that Green Mile reference in the beginning
Is there any content creator more perfect for watching and learning enthusiastically as well as listening and relaxing for sleep with the same exact videos? Love you, TOT!
11:30 - gives a new meaning to long play records.
Me: There’s a new video out by Tony that’s 48 minutes long. I’ll be busy today watching it 3 or 4 times.
Wife: Wow. What’s it about?
Me: Retirement planning.
G G, LoL!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tony, i hope your family is recovering well! I miss your semi-regular content and hopp you are back soon! Best wishes!
"The Green Mile" reference. That was something indeed.[EDIT] beaten to it, but hopefully feeding the algorithm!
The hesitate to tell was the best part
Thanks Mr Tony, despite the 'this old' your channel's content never gets old!
Was that a hint you need a hat? Great update video. Your kids are so smart, the ball puzzle had me fooled just looking at it!!!
:O 48 min of ThisCoolTony?! Nice!!
Tony - your comedic timing, writing, editing skills, and expertise as a maker are all things I aspire to achieve even a small fraction of one day. Hats off to my all-time favorite youtube creator, I'm sure you've no idea how many people you have inspired.
48 minutes of TOT! Be still, my beating heart! 😆
I so much prefer the long form videos over the 8 - 10 minute ones
I can watch your deep dives all night. For ever. Thanks tony- you’re a bloody legend. Now I want to buy myself all the cnc things
I think I created a fruit loop servo once in my early years, using a Meccano motor, a potentiometer, an op amp and a relay for reversing the motor. It turned out to be more of an oscillator.
