  • The debate behind us, we are in the official 50-day homestretch of the presidential campaign. And although Kamala Harris dominated the debate, it’s not clear that it translates into a political edge in the election. A fantastic roundtable of Susan Glasser, Molly Jong-Fast, and Jacob Weisberg join Harry to assess the debate and its aftermath; analyze each side’s subsequent moves and what they reveal, including Trump’s going full-out nasty; and discuss what each side needs to do going forward.
    -
    TALKING FEDS PODCAST is a roundtable discussion that brings together prominent former government officials, journalists, and special guests for a dynamic and in-depth analysis of the most pressing questions in law and politics.

    That tens of millions of Americans now and ever supported Donald Trump is a national shame and international embarrassment.
    I am American, 67, male, living abroad. I have yet to meet anybody supporting him, including British conspiracy theorists.

    Check your voter registration status WEEKLY. If you discover that your name has been purged from your state voter roll, RE-REGISTER. When you show up at the poll to vote on November 5 and are told that your name has been purged from the voter roll, DEMAND a provisional ballot. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT VOTING. As citizens, you have the right to vote. Exercise it! Thank you!

    You all are superb analysts of these crazy times. I dare to interject a hypothesis regarding the apparent stasis of the electorate following the ass whupping Harris gave Trump in the debate and pretty much ongoing. We are used to democracy moving slowly and deliberately, as a civilized nation. Since Trump, but especially these last few months, our democratic processes have been accelerated by sheer necessity to a breakneck pace that challenges even the best minds and defies our norms and standards. Some have paid close attention, but many are just coming into the realization that we have some big decisions to make. We are maybe a bit stunned, paralytic even, afraid to decide before the next big revelation. If I’m right, let’s hope the electorate catches up with necessity. Thank you all for your great insight. 💙🙏

    Thanks for the brief on the Equal Pay Act of 1963. Hard to imagine such a bill being passed in 2024. BTW there is research that indicates that women tend to prefer"people helping" occupations at a higher rate than men prefer them. These jobs tend to have lower productivity, thus lower wages. We all know women who were at the top of their high school science classes and then majored in psychology or sociology in college instead of STEM.

Other countries are shocked that this is a thing in America! We need to get rid of it. But we should also give small businesses a seat at the competition table.

    No taxes on tips

    I've been canvassing in PA for the last few weekends. I have to say that I have not heard ANYTHING about Harris's gender or race, either from Dems, Independents, or GOPs. It's possible that they wouldn't say anything to me about gender (I'm white, female, 68), but I wear neutral clothing and don't identify as a Dem canvasser until after they tell me where they stand. I don't think this is an issue at all, except among MAGAs who we don't care about.
    Remarkably, I think the country is ready to accept a Black woman as a candidate, whether or not they support her party. Of course if she loses, the pundits will do a lot of blahblah about race and gender, but that is NOT what I'm hearing from voters.
    Independents and lean-GOPs are saying that gas and food prices are too high, and the economy is their main issue. NO ONE is criticizing Harris much all all. They say they don't trust "the Dems" to do a better job, not that Harris is too far left or not any good or too Black - none of that. They are choosing between two parties and I think they recognize Harris as a plausible candidate. Which is HUGE, given how new she is.
    The GOPs are dealing with how awful Trump is by talking about the GOP platform (Border + Economy) and sometimes saying both sides have terrible rhetoric.
    Dems and lean-Dem independents like Harris a lot. This weekend, after the debate I had 2 families of registered GOPs say they were ready to vote for Harris and that the GOP is no longer their party. (Not sure they'll choose Casey, though.)

    • @missd369
      @missd369 11 дней назад

      I still don't understand why they are complaining about gas prices. I live in an EXPENSIVE gas location, and it's hovering at about $3.40. That's not expensive. Maybe it's because the complainers drive giant gas guzzlers?

    • @Malsperanza
      @Malsperanza 11 дней назад

      @@missd369 It's a talking point, like "open border." I've been canvassing in prosperous Bucks County suburbs, where homes have big lots and 2 car garages. These folks do not personally feel the pinch of higher prices, particularly the retirees whose retirement funds have been performing very nicely in the stock market under Biden. "The economy" is a buzzword for "I don't want my taxes going to pay for lazy poor people in the cities that I refuse to ever go into again." When you canvass, you have to interpret. But the main point is that race and gender truly seem *not* to be a talking point with non-MAGA Republicans and swing voters. Which is a remarkable shift since 2016.
      This explains why Trump has not been pushing very hard on "Sheee's Blaaaaaack and a Gurrrrl" lately. He floated it and it seems not to have landed, so he has dropped it except to specific audiences. He's doing much better with BOOOOORDERRRR and DANGEROUS IMMIGRANTS.

    Some Democratic Analysts bring into the general discussions NEGATIVE Vibes about our Democratic Candidates, though with good intentions.
    These types of Democrats commit what we call in sports UNFORCED Errors.
    Sometimes all that the opponent has to do, is sit and watch the Democrats to beat the Democrats. So we pay (we the Democrats) for the research that the Republican benefits from.
    Unforced Errors in Sports can cost a great player his starting lineup spot or even his job.
    Don't say anything negative about any Democrat unless you're certain 100% it's correct information and sometimes you must clear it with that candidate.
    The other side doesn't doesn't put country first, in other side if you end up heling the opponent you are in fact helping RUSSIA.
