Yeah you can do this to make Thor! I recommend if you truly want to represent Thor better though going 2 levels of Tempest Cleric (could be his relationship with Odin) basically giving you heavy armor and Destructive Wrath, then multiclassing into Storm Sorcerer for the rest of the leveling making sure to get Transmuted Spell Metamagic to change spells such as Fireball to deal lightning damage. And unless you are playing dwarf for that character, make sure to invest into strength to wear heavy armor (and to wield Mjolnir!)
I honestly like this build a lot, a big beefy tank that is running up into the thick of things is a nice touch. 219 damage on a maximum is ridiculous and the average damage isn't too shabby either. To those of you that want to play this build remember that Clerics cast using their Wisdom while Artificers cast with their Intelligence. Your Artificer Save DC may be high, but if you want to cast a Cleric spell that requires a save your DC may be lower. The simple solution is to just choose support Cleric spells and leave the saving spells to the Artificer, but it is a noticeable, if small, tripping point that comes with multiclassing. In addition, if you don't feel like dealing with infusions and interventions but want to play a Hill Dwarf that can tank give Barbarian with the Tough feat a try specifically the Totem Barbarian with the Bear Totem. It'll eat up hits and hit pretty hard back with a greataxe or great sword, though if your DM will allow it the Maul and Pike are two really cool alternatives that give a bit of different flavor without compromising damage (though a pike is only 1d10).
I like battlesmiths (currently playing one) but they just aren't as good as paladins at low level. I suspect they begin to get better at 11th with the spell storing item). You also say you can spam banishing smite (2 time a long rest?) So it's unlikely you'll get a crit on that most of the time.
This. It’s disingenuous to include banishing smite in the clickbait 200+ damage calculation. Because you can’t add it after the attack roll (you have to pre-cast it) your chances of scoring a crit with it are very slim. Still a powerful nova crit with arcane jolt and max level booming blade, but not anywhere close to 200 damage.
This looks cool, but I am a little confused. I re-watched the video a couple of times trying to see if I missed something. You said in the beginning, when going over ability scores, to put eight in strength. I don't really understand the eight in strength, as you are wanting to wear heavy armor. Don't you need higher strength to wear heavy armor? Did I just miss something, or am I wrong about the strength requirement for heavy armor? Sorry if I'm wrong or just missed something super basic, but I'm trying to learn all the rules. I really enjoyed your video. I'm about to start a campaign, and am interested in using this build.
In the PHB when looking at the Dwarf rules, you will see under their speed that they can move 25 feet, and after that it says that Heavy Armor of any kind won't reduce their speed, even if they don't have the strength requirement. Meaning you can have an 8 in strength and as long as you get Heavy armor proficiency you can wear Plate armor with low strength as long as you are a dwarf.
I mean, If you guys are overpowering every threat I throw at you I will just have to up the danger. But I am totally welcome for any of my players to use my builds haha. 😄 So bring it on!
Best RUclipsr for dnd builds
Aw thanks!
I was just thinking about having a Thor-type character! Never would have considered Artificer.

@@MoonIllusionOfficial oh, thanks for the explanation. Can't wait to try this out. Looking forward to more builds from you.

Are you entirely sure that making this video was a good idea? Given a certain player in your Avernus game and their access to the internet

(Cause I know their weaknesses 😈)
As much as I love artificer it's the worst caster class in the game which is not too bad when you consider that every caster are better then martials
can i have the character sheet
All character sheets are in my discord in the build-archive channel. The link to the discord is in the description of the video.
