Home Free does a great job on this song, but no one can sing it like John Denver! I've traveled country roads all of my life, and wouldn't change it for anything. There nothing better in the world than being a country boy- or girl!
I grew up listening to John Denver's songs. Hundreds of artists have covered this song. But I feel Home Free took this one to another level for me. It is one of my favorite covers of this song. I love everything about it. It is a masterpiece. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group hands down.
Home Free worked on this arrangement for almost 5 years before they recorded it. They wanted to do justice to the song and they did!! It's just a perfect blend with touches of r&b, country, and gospel. This is in my top 3 favorite Home Free covers. It's hard to pick a favorite with their songs. Thanks ladies! 🖤🍟
Loved this reaction and just let me say the sound quality of both you and the music was spot on. So many reactors have it too low or so loud its deafening. Looking forward to future reactions.😊
Ladies it always amazes me how 5 guys with such different voices can harmonize so well together but because they are such professionals they know who to put up front, y'all are on a fun ride with Home Free. Fantastic reaction ladies.
Country Blues....sorta R&Bish.....there is a story this arrangement had been around for them several years, but they waited to put it on their 2019 Dive Bar Saints album....fans had been requesting it for years. They took an iconic country/pop song and made it their own in a country blues sound and they UPGRADED it
Just beautiful rendition, I agree 👍. They are incredibly respectful to any songs they cover, then add more or less to it to make it their own. They are so talented, every single one of them. But together, they are dynamite 🧨🧨🧨, and you two are just like that also. Love your ideas and insights! Thanks!
Great reaction! Welcome to the Home frys! Home Free always does a fantastic job. There cover of a Christmas classic OH holy night is very moving. Also How Great Thou Art. And Mary did you know! God bless!
You won’t have a problem finding videos to watch. They have so many and they are all wonderful. A good introduction is the performances from The Sing Off ( which they won in 2014.)
They added a country blues flavor to the end of the song which made it so distinct from any other version. It was an upgrade of the original, but still gave tribute to his great song.
I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions. Thank you! I watched/listened to many of them. You have had excellent choices of music to review and great comments. Love your interactions too Have to say too I am especially enjoying your Home Free reviews. I stumbled on to these guys about a year ago and got hooked immediately. Now I can't seem to get enough. They are flat out amazing and just about everything they do is truly great. Very glad you are going a bit down this rabbit hole. It is very fun to watch another get hooked and amazed the way I did. Definitely will keep watching you two. Thanks again for your efforts
I agree with everything said here. I don't know your names yet, but the daughter said they have no country instruments and it reminded me of exactly what Jewel (country singer) said as a judge on the Sing-Off (they were on season 4 and won it of course)about Home Free, which was pretty much exactly what she was saying. They do have the country vibe and swag about them, 3 out of the 5 of them are from the deep south so maybe that's why, but I love it!
If you haven’t listened to Listen to the Music, I think you’ll like it. They have a great balance of putting their own spin on it but still honoring the original song.
Home Free gave this a little bit of an R&B twist and it works so well. I’ve always been ho hum about this song, but their version I love. I wish more people would react to it. Thank you.
They did such a great job on this song. I love how they give each song their own little flair. Hearing Adam Rupp for the first time made me an instant fan of Home Free. What he can do with his voice is amazing. They did a cover to “Working for a Living” that’s really good.
The ladies are on a Home Free roll. You simply can't go wrong with these guys. "Country Roads" is one of 4 state songs of West Virginia. I live in PA, and have been to WV many times. It's truly a beautiful state. Since it's Christmas, I would recommend "Mary, Did you Know?" or "O Holy Night" by the Home Free boys.
May I suggest Helplessly Hoping, it just really shows how great they really are. Or for christmas more on the funny side Grandma got run over by a reindeer
There is no shortage of Home Free content. They release 24 videos a year as a group and about an equal amount of solo work or collaborations with other artists.
They did another John Denver song thank God I'm a country boy You need to check that out cause Austin does a little bit of yielding in it and it's a fun song. And in this song take me home country road they turned beautiful John Denver song into a the most beautiful ballad I've ever heard.
Great choice! Love the harmonies. That's what is fun about HF. They always stay true to the original, but they make it their own. Every song is a different style and they all have their turn to step up and take the lead. If you want a beautiful song, To the moon and back will make you feel like a kid again.
Adam Chance and Peter Hollens did a version of this song in 2021 and were nominated for best Acapella country song by Contemporary Acapella Recording Artists. They lost, however; because in the same category Tim Foust and Chris Rupp won for Long Black Train. Adam Chance replaced Chris Rupp in 2016 when Chris decided to leave the group. How great that two of the members of Home Free were nominated last year!
That would be a tough choice. Both are excellent! Have you checked out O come o come Emmanuel? All 6 of them and no beat boxing. The harmonies are out of control!
You guys are to cute, love how Mom blings up and that dress she is wearing is so cool. But you gotta check out a video of Adam in this band doing just a drum solo live.
I love that you mention their sense of humor. I mentioned Home Free's live version of "Your Man" on the "American Pie" video due to Tim's range, but you also see their sense of humor set on high. You ladies really need to check it out.
Love love love your reaction and comments! I do believe you are now officially Home Fries!! Welcome. They have so many amazing covers in so many different genres. Being the holiday season would love to see your reactions to "Do you hear what I Hear" or any traditional Christmas music of theirs. For a real treat check out their original songs "Snow Globe" or "Cold Hard Cash" or "Full of Cheer". If you choose "Christmas ain't for the Lonely" better have the tissues ready! Enjoying your channel more and more! AWESOME. Love from Texas!!!
I’m a new sub due to Home Free. I love them, they can do no wrong. I went back and listened to all the other songs that HF covered. Christmas is here and you should hear an original song from Tim, Snow Globe. Do You Hear What I Hear, which Adam our beatboxer, arranged. Another classic is Mary Did You Know? All great songs. I’m enjoying your channel. Thank you , Happy Holidays. 🎼🎄🎵☃️🎶🙏♥️
This song was mostly written by Bill Danoff and Taffy Danoff - John added his input to a nearly finished song. They went on to also write Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight." 😅
This version is totally something you might hear on an easy listening station. Like a slice jazz. The thing with acapella groups is they do not use instruments so they have to be tight and their sound comes to our ears so pure. With true voice only music, you hear things in harmonies that instruments drowned out. Home Free is amazing and so together that everything they do is outstanding.
What you're struggling to come up with is, R&B. It has a true R&B flavor to it. Without a doubt the most amazing version of this song ever recorded. EPIC!
Home Free has also done "Seven Bridges Road" (an Eagles cover, since I saw you have Hotel California on your play list.) *New Subscriber for more Home Free.*
Whenever I listen to this song, I always think to myself that they did make itch their own, but they didn’t go as crazy as their talent allows them to. I always thought maybe out of respect for the great country icon that John Denver was.❤️. Thanks for the great reaction!👏👏👏❤️
John Denver's version is obviously the classic. Chance's version with Peter Hollens is lovely and has a modern feel. But Home Free's version is still my family's favorite--hands down! Besides the unbelievable harmonies, getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is such a great treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
You will find since they have over 150 videos out that you will probably like their version more than the original. At the end this song had an R n B sound.
Check out "Thank God I'm A Country Boy." It shows their fun side. Since Memorial Day is coming up, another song to check out would be "Home Of The Free." It's a Tim Foust original.
You should now check out the opposite end of the genre spectrum, R&B. Maybe not exactly opposite! They cover Boys 2 Men's End of the Road!! They pretty much cover every genre. They do a pop medley, Country Fried Pop Medley and a cover of All About That Bass. They also have an R&B/country/rock mash up with The Butts Remix!! Anything you check out will be good!! They have some Christmas songs too like O Holy Night, Silent Night and Do You Hear What I Hear.
For a lot of instrument sounds and primo beatboxing try one of their earlier Christmas tunes Do you See What I See. It is arranged by their beatboxer Adam Rupp and includes his brother Chris Rupp as this was before Adam Chance joined the group.
There are so many to chose from. All are great. Suggest "Thinking out Loud - Let's Get it On". Their cover of 2 different songs melded into a wonderful love story. The video is like watching a love story unfolding. For a very different pace "In the Blood" offers a chance to think about the influence family can have our psyche.
Great reaction ladies as per usual. Now that you have become "Home Fries" I think it's time for you to listen to the tune "Mayday". You have to get to know them and get used to their sound. I think you are ready but I must warn you to be ready for a HUGE surprise
i don't know how religious you ladies are,but home free has some absolutely stunning gospel covers. how great thou art and amazing grace stand out.and also a song called go rest high on that mountain, a vince gill cover
Now you have to react to Geoff Castellucci's cover of this song. Geoff is the bass from the acapella group Voice Play. Voice Play is comparable to Home Free and Pentatonix, I like them even better than the other two. The main difference is in the music they choose to cover, Home Free focuses mostly on country, Pentatonix on Pop, and Voice Play does a lot of Disney, movie, and video game theme songs. Geoff has a large body of solo work, and as a basso profundo he is really remarkable.
Geoff is not a basso profundo but Tim & Avi are. Geoff himself has said he is a baritone who discovered subharmonics to go low. Many bass singers are not fans of that technique. Also not a fan of Geoff's version of Country Roads. He puts in unnecessary bass drops which the song does not call for.

Home Free Brothers in Arms is really good
Home Free's cover of *Brothers In Arms* I'm tellin' ya! :D
Brothers in arms, is your next one. It takes HOME FREE to the next level.
Home Free does a great job on this song, but no one can sing it like John Denver! I've traveled country roads all of my life, and wouldn't change it for anything. There nothing better in the world than being a country boy- or girl!

Mom Gap - the guys are all 6ft tall or over. Just another tidbit of very important info. 😂❤
Love Watching Your Reactions to Home Free ❤
John and home free are 2 of my favorite artists, but you ladies look especially beautiful today also😘🤗👍
I remember singing this song in grade school and I am 58. Home Free for me all day every day.
I think John Denver would really like this. Thanks for another good one.
Thank you Denise! 😃❤️😊
I was just going to add the responsive throwing thematic lines was reminiscent of a gospel choir with multiple soloists.
I really like the ceramic Christmas tree in t the background. My mom made one back in the 70s. I have no idea whatever happened to it.
Memories.
You need to listen to Homefree do How Great Thou Art!! The beat boxer sings in that one and he has an outstanding voice in his own right!!
I was born and raised in West Virginia and I was blessed to see them do this song live in West Virginia and the crowd went wild.
Loved this reaction and just let me say the sound quality of both you and the music was spot on.
So many reactors have it too low or so loud its deafening. Looking forward to future reactions.😊
Thank you noticing that! Glad you are enjoying the videos ☺️
I could listen to them all day.
First time seeing this version. AMAZING! I love how they made it feel the same but way different too. Their harmony is just incredible.
Ladies it always amazes me how 5 guys with such different voices can harmonize so well together but because they are such professionals they know who to put up front, y'all are on a fun ride with Home Free. Fantastic reaction ladies.
Good cover. Home Free took this John Denver classic and put their own stamp on it with their rendition. It worked.
Country Blues....sorta R&Bish.....there is a story this arrangement had been around for them several years, but they waited to put it on their 2019 Dive Bar Saints album....fans had been requesting it for years. They took an iconic country/pop song and made it their own in a country blues sound and they UPGRADED it
This is one of my absolute favorites!!! They kilt it!

Never heard of Home Free before but those guys are great! So glad I watched this. Off to search out more of their stuff.
Oh you are going to LOVE them. That is a fun rabbit hole to fall down.
You won’t have a problem finding videos to watch. They have so many and they are all wonderful. A good introduction is the performances from The Sing Off ( which they won in 2014.)
They also do “thank god im a country boy” lol their humer def comes out on that one
One of my favorite songs by them, you can practically FEEL the longing in their voices
They added a country blues flavor to the end of the song which made it so distinct from any other version. It was an upgrade of the original, but still gave tribute to his great song.
I found myself preferring this slower version from Home Free over what I have come to think of as the "bubble-gum pop" sound that John Denver used.
It was my first time listening to this song, thank you for this reaction 🙂
RIP JOHN DENVER, he would be proud
I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions. Thank you! I watched/listened to many of them. You have had excellent choices of music to review and great comments. Love your interactions too

One of my favorite covers. Peace, Love!!
This one is epic!! One if my favs!! They absolutely made it their own!!! Home Free forever!!
For me, I got a soul feeling.
I love chances lead in the sing “cover me up”
Excellent song! He also does really well in one man band and Some Girls do.
I agree with everything said here. And you have to love Rob's groundhog dance! ("I'm all right" in the sing off.)
Home Free makes the covers they do their own. John Denver would be proud! Love your reactions!
Thank you.

I love this song so much your the best stay save and have fun 🥰
My favorite song from this group??
Everything Home Free
My older sisters had John Denver on vinyl in the early 70s, and I grew up hearing this one. Love this version!
It's a favorite 😍 and yes they're very cute lol. They did a great job. Great reaction guys
🤘🤠🤘
Country boys giving this a ballad feel.

There is no shortage of Home Free content. They release 24 videos a year as a group and about an equal amount of solo work or collaborations with other artists.
"Ain't going down til the sun comes up" is another great song that they do. Of course, everything Hone Free does is fantastic!.
They gave it a little Bluesie and Jazzie vibs.
You would love land of the free home free does a great job on with that one too original song by the them.
Ladies Home Free are much more than a country vocal babd. I'm not a fan of country music but I listen to Home Free on RUclips at least an hour a day.
They did another John Denver song thank God I'm a country boy You need to check that out cause Austin does a little bit of yielding in it and it's a fun song. And in this song take me home country road they turned beautiful John Denver song into a the most beautiful ballad I've ever heard.
You two are very quickly becoming my favorite reaction channel. Great job!
Aw thank you! That means a lot to us!
You should try “one man band” by old dominion and then after that the home free cover of it
I think what you’re looking for is soul…that’s what style it reminds me of
i think its time for mayday or snow globe :) snow globe would be a perfect christmas themed song :P
The word you're looking for is "timeless"
Another switch up from a well known number is their version of ring of fire love watching your reactions seasonal greetings
The reason they are my favorite group is because they are so respectful, and stay true to the original artist...mad love, and respect🥰🇺🇸🤠
Great choice! Love the harmonies. That's what is fun about HF. They always stay true to the original, but they make it their own. Every song is a different style and they all have their turn to step up and take the lead. If you want a beautiful song, To the moon and back will make you feel like a kid again.

Home Free mood is a thing
Almost forgot, Snow Globe, a home free original for christmas
If you're going for originals, they may enjoy Full of Cheer as well. ;-]
Every cover they do can be classed as an upgrade on the original. Try their versions of "Unchained Melody", "Folsom Prison Blues", and "Crazy"
Love love love your reaction and comments! I do believe you are now officially Home Fries!! Welcome. They have so many amazing covers in so many different genres. Anyone who has missed home while far away identifies with this song and Home Free gets that and delivers this rendition.

Slow jazz, not slice...wouldn't let me edit.😊
Thanks for reacting to this. Have you seen Thank God I'm a Country Boy yet? They do a funny version of that one. It's a lot of fun. 🙂
What you're struggling to come up with is, R&B. It has a true R&B flavor to it. Without a doubt the most amazing version of this song ever recorded. EPIC!
I would like to suggest Folsom Prison Blues covered by Home Free.
Home Free has also done "Seven Bridges Road" (an Eagles cover, since I saw you have Hotel California on your play list.) *New Subscriber for more Home Free.*
HF didn't do covers , they do upgrades! Lol!
I think you're becoming "Home Fries " welcome aboard 👊🏾👊🏾🖖🏾 I made be wrong but I believe the term your looking for is a capella.
Whenever I listen to this song, I always think to myself that they did make itch their own, but they didn’t go as crazy as their talent allows them to. I always thought maybe out of respect for the great country icon that John Denver was.❤️. Thanks for the great reaction!👏👏👏❤️

West By God Virginia my home. I first heard this song when I was serving in the IS Army overseas in 1971
If that doesn't do your soul good don't know what will.😇
It’s my understanding that they took years to decide how they were going to arrange this song to honor it.
would love to follow - as you listen to more of home free
You will find since they have over 150 videos out that you will probably like their version more than the original.
At the end this song had an R n B sound.
It was a Folk music feel
For Christmas you need to listen to snow globe by them
Probably my favorite Home Free cover! Now, I’d love to see you guys check out their cover of “Seven Bridges Road” by The Eagles!

Listen to the music Doobie brother cover by home free is great too
