  • ✔️ There are several ways to deal with an overflowing Google Drive.
    Free up space in Gmail
    Both Google Drive and Google Photos count against your Gmail storage quota; cleaning them can be a good place to start. Of course you can purchase more storage, but it’s also worth reviewing how much of your email you really need to keep. The most complete solution is to run a desktop email program and move email to your PC to free up space online, with the added benefit of backing up your email.

    What to do when 15 GB isn’t enough.

    This was quite timely as Google has recently notified me that I'm at 79% of my storage limit. Now I know what options are available. Thanks very much Mr. Notenboom!

    That's a good explanation and sound advice. Another trick is not to use the same Google account for mail and other personal storage. I use e.g. Microsoft for email (and not use OneDrive) and Google for photos, etc but keep Gmail as a largely empty backup email account.

    File on one drive, not backed up. File on two drives, backed up. Got it. Email on the cloud. Meaning it's on dozens of drives. Not backed up?

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  2 года назад

      "The cloud" is only one place (regardless of how many drives they use). One account. Not backed up.

      @@askleonotenboom The point of backing up to to keep your files. In the cloud, they are kept, even if your computer blows up. Or their servers blow up. The cloud is places all over the world.

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  2 года назад

      @@johncaiwa True to a point. It's "one place" because if you lose access to that ONE account, you lose access to all those servers wherever they may be. I see it happen all the time.

    Meanwhile gmail allows “ law enforcement “ free reign to our information.

      With an appropriate court order. I wouldn't call that "free reign". And it's true for any US-based company.
