This was quite timely as Google has recently notified me that I'm at 79% of my storage limit. Now I know what options are available. Thanks very much Mr. Notenboom!

That's a good explanation and sound advice. Another trick is not to use the same Google account for mail and other personal storage. I use e.g. Microsoft for email (and not use OneDrive) and Google for photos, etc but keep Gmail as a largely empty backup email account.
@@askleonotenboom The point of backing up to to keep your files. In the cloud, they are kept, even if your computer blows up. Or their servers blow up. The cloud is places all over the world.
@@johncaiwa True to a point. It's "one place" because if you lose access to that ONE account, you lose access to all those servers wherever they may be. I see it happen all the time.

BTW, selecting everything in (all mail) and deleting them, will delete the mail kept in created specific folders also. BEWARE
Yes. Gmail labels are not folders: askleo.com/how-do-gmail-labels-relate-to-folders/
File on one drive, not backed up. File on two drives, backed up. Got it. Email on the cloud. Meaning it's on dozens of drives. Not backed up?
"The cloud" is only one place (regardless of how many drives they use). One account. Not backed up.

I have only issues with mail!
But no way to delete everything that's older than 2 years!
Meanwhile gmail allows “ law enforcement “ free reign to our information.
With an appropriate court order. I wouldn't call that "free reign". And it's true for any US-based company.
Cant load my email app or Chrome
I did i put it in my important and starred
What a …...! Don’t give in to the machine. You’re suppose to help us work around it!!!
This my problem i dont want to deal with icloud
nope. you don't want it. THEY want you to have it.
Don't know what I am doing wrong. I cleaned out everything from my gmail and it still won't let me send or receive e-mails.
Is it complaining specifically about space? Be sure to check Google Drive.
@@askleonotenboom Yes, no matter what I did/deleted, it still says I am out of storage and will have to pay for more.
