It feels like there’s a million years between this and Casino Royale
James Bond has entered his "Jason Bourne/ xXx" phase of his career.
Kinda ironic since it’s from the director of ‘XXX: State of the Union/The Next Level’
Kim jung il saw this movie and hated it.
They talked about it in Time
Magazine.🤣
Nope, that belongs to Timothy Dalton's Bond movies. I enjoy this one.
@blachubear But Dalton is the best Bond (and License to Kill is great)
This movie feels like 3 or 4 movies mixed into one. It's sad how dark it starts and feels great until 40 minutes in
Yeah it seemed like it had so much potential in that early part.
Pierce Brosnan, no matter the quality of the film, is always great, accurate, and highly enjoyable as James Bond.
Facts
He's was a very good Bond.
His second and third one are underrated. They get grouped together with Die Another Day when they're not nearly as stupid. Tomorrow Never Dies only gets more relevant with age since the villain is a media mogul manipulating events for his newspaper's headlines. The World is Not Enough deals with really dark subject matter like stockholm syndrome.
Fun Fact Rosamund Pike is in this film and Roger Moore is her great uncle.
Really?
Interesting. 🤔
Another fun fact Roger Moore's daughter appears as a stewardess in this movie as well
@@JohnAnderson-jy2js She also appeared with her dad and Michael Caine in Bullseye, if you remember that one!
@@peterlenham3180 interesting twist in the end of that movie she's revealed to be Michael Caine's daughter and then Roger just looks at the camera and says I thought she was mine LOL

You guys have been getting me through some rough times ❤
Sending you good vibes hoping it’ll get better💜💜💜
Die Another Day took the campiness of the Roger Moore era and cranked it up to 11. The director Lee Tamahori (Who did The Edge and Along Came A Spider plus an episode of The Sopranos) is an crazy person
Maybe it's not the director's fault but the studio itself who wanted to take that approach.
I remember on the commentary of the DVD for Die Another Day. It was the director’s idea for the gun barrel sequence to have an fake CGI bullet (BTW that was Freakin stupid)
Yeah that's what I thought it was. Throwback to Roger Moore's Bond. I didn't hate it. Guilty pleasure flick. Silly.
@@klass_1221 Yep, it was meant to be a throwback and a homage. I think it was for Bond's 40th birthday (cinematically). I'm old and vaguely remember this...
When you surrender to the madness of Die Another Day it’s a lot of fun. Which at its core, it is a popcorn movie. But it’s most certainly not a good movie.
The first part of the movie actually isn’t that bad.
But once they go to Cuba things start to get dumb.
And Once they go the Iceland, the film goes completely off the rails.
*'I just thought it went too far-and that's from me, the first Bond in space! Invisible cars and dodgy CGI footage? Please!'*
Roger Moore's opinion on Die Another Day
And he's the very man who took part in A View To a Kill.
I love Pierce, he deserved to go out on something wayyyy better than this
Sadly, I don't think any of the Bond actors have ever ended their tenures on a high note. If you watch Cassino Royale (a classic if you ask me) and then turds like Spectre or No Time to Die, and you just feel so embarrassed for Daniel Craig.
@@yakuza01Ok, No Time To Die I can’t possibly think is that bad. Also, whatever you think of it, he actually used that movie to end his James Bond run on his own terms.
@thefirstbourne149 No Time To Die was awful
@@thefirstbourne149exactly, he gave his all in NTTD
@@yakuza01I enjoyed Spectre
Goldeneye will always be my favorite Bond flick, Xenia Onatopp(Famke Jensen) all day!
this movie actually almost killed the franchise, the franchise that survived the Moore era people.
I wouldn't say killed but it did influence the Craig era
Halle Berry was such a heartthrob for me back in the day. Storm, Catwoman, Bond girl. Unbeatable.
Mmmmm......saggies
🙋♀Halle Berry's Jinx character from Die Another Day was supposed to get her own spinoff film but it never reached fruition! Jinx was not your typical "Bond girl" and was portrayed as an action-oriented peer to James Bond, rather then a helpless victim. 💥🔫🚁🎥
I thought Halle was (and STILL is) GORGEOUS and kicked a$$ as Jinx! ❤
Yeah. I was really hoping they went through with it. She did a good job. She had that 007 energy , charismatic, sexy and badass
Just two movies before this they did the same thing but better with Michelle Yeoh
Ahhh…Brosnan Bond. Memories 😂😂
Not gonna lie, Rosamund Pike was the most memorable thing about this movie for me. I remembered being hugely mesmerized how beautiful she was in this movie. She was the first ever Bond Girl that i had a huge crush on 😂
I wish she could've worked in a better Bond movie
I agree, she is fiiiiiine in this movie BUT to me, for first Bond girl crush was Izabella Scorupco (Natalya Simonova). Maybe it's because you get to know her so well in Golden Eye. Now that I think about it, you spend as much time following her (if not more) for the first half as you do Bond. Also, maybe because I find something appealing of a hot girl who doesn't know she is hot and is a bit rough around the edges :)
Rosamund Pike is a great actress and quite beautiful.
DEFINITELY Rosamund's big break! She stole the show in Saltburn! ❤
GoldenEye is one of my all time FAVORITES! But, then again I loved all of the Pierce Brosnan led Bond films! 🥰
What? More than Halle? Get out of here
The Batman & Robin of the James Bond franchise.
lol now it wasn’t the best but don’t do that.
@@mizzyfit_334I agree with him. It’s doesn’t get much criticism as it deserves
That opening 🔥 🔥
That makes sense with Casino Royale being the Batman Begins of the franchise.
@@mizzyfit_334 It put the series on ice for several years until Casino Royale rebooted it.
The one thing that always got me about the movie was the "Dream Machine" that allowed him to not need to sleep. You effectively need to stay in it for a few hours each day, which... I mean at that point you might as well just sleep.
One reason why I love this franchise is because I've actually seen a collection of the cars used in the films, including the Aston Martin from Goldfinger, V12 Vanquish and also Zao's car from this movie as well. I saw them a couple of years back at a car museum celebrating 60 years of James Bond along with costumes and some props. Really awesome.
The internet has been talked about the infamous CGI effect with Bond Surfing with the outdated CGI Tide-wave in Antarctica
Where's Billy when you need him?!
Billy is Taking Himself a Break From Laughing Too Much
brosnan is still the best bond
Yeah he brought some real class and swagger to the role 💯😎
He has a lot of charisma as bond.
Timothy Dalton is the best Bond.
Yeah Piers was the Bond I grew up on, but Craig was great too.
Shocked this isn't a bad movie roast
How come this is not a BAD MOVIE ROAST?
Oh hell! I enjoy these roasts anyway! Besides I like Bond and prefer this film over Quantum of Sh!t.
When it comes to grittier takes on James Bond I actually feel Timothy Dalton was the first to actually achieve this. Especially in Licence To Kill. In that Bond is absolutely brutal man.
Ohhhhhh noooooooo not Die Another Day 😂 man I’m conflicted on this one. It was the first bond I saw in theaters so its special to me. However though…this thing is universally panned😅
The problem was that at the time, American audiences were watching 24 and Jason Bourne. Both were more gritty and a tad more realistic. All without the spy gear.
These days this would neatly fit on the category of parody. Only movies I can see being a problem were the ones with Sean Connery Bond borderline sexually assaulting women while they very clearly resist or tell him to go away
I remember thinking Halle Berry was miscast. She’s a well known name. She just won an Oscar. I always felt that “Bond girls” shouldn’t be too well known and I think she was too established and almost overshadowed Bond. The closest we got to a famous actress playing a Bond girl was Michelle Yeoh and she wasn’t known as a good actress yet.
its gets worse when you find out they wanted to make give her character her own spinoff series until this movie flopped.
@@EdgeO419 I haven't seen this movie but that's not surprising tbh since that's what they wanted to do from the start, putting in Hailey berry in a role like that to try and sell to the audience for the idea of a spin-off with her being the lead since it's what they wanted to do more than anything but this movie flopped
@@EdgeO419this movie didn’t flop it was Pierce’s highest grossing Bond film. Even out grossed Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace when adjusted for inflation. They cancelled the Jinx movie because of the string of female led action films that did poorly around that time.
@@C-Bee I know it made money, but just like batman and robin it was critically panned by everyone and internally it was considered such a mess they fired brosnan afterwards.
Yeoh was a big star already when she did Bond. SuperCop 1 & 2 were massive.
Pierce Brosnan was my Bond and I loved this film as a kid. And im proud that its directed by my fellow Kiwi Lee Tamahori.
When Roger Moore himself said that the movie, including the invisible car, is silly, you know you messed up.
Halle Berry's surf board isn't the only thing getting waxed in this movie
Korey's giggle and Martin's cackle are the only things that brought me joy while revisiting the worst Bond movie
This definitely isn’t the worst Bond movie
@@ninjanibba4259 which one is?
I don't care what ANYONE says, this movie is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Love this movie for all of the right reasons
I remember watching this in theaters and the most tragic part (as the guys pointed out here) is that the first 1/4 of this is actually pretty good. The idea of Bond getting caught and later MI6 suspecting that he might have been brainwashed, and hence could now be a sleeper agent for NK was very intriguing and fresh. It turns into a completely different (and bad) movie right after he escapes from the boat and goes to HK. Any potential falls by the wayside and we end up in Roger Moore territory for the rest of the film. I think every Bond ending their tenure with 1-2 shit movies is almost as traditional to the franchise as the gun barrel intro.
Despite its flaws I think Die Another Day is a really fun and entertaining Bond film.
Don't forget The Man With the Golden Gun. That and Live and Let Die haven't aged well.
This wasn't in the review but there was this line of stupid dialogue
Rosamund Pike: Has Mr Bond explained his big bang theory?
Halle Berry: Yeah, I think I got the thrust of it.
Someone got paid millions of dollars to write that.
Also,
48:54 The British actually call Strip Clubs 'Gentleman's Club. '
Crazy thing is these same two guys wrote all of the Craig Bond movies
Hey, I need to use that line.
@@aqualityinterruption2097 Holy shit, you're right.
I have a soft spot for this movie. It’s utterly ridiculous but it’s a damn good time. It’s fun. All of the classic Bond vibes are here. I miss when Bond was fun.
This movie was fun
Connery Bond: the standard bond
Lazenby Bond: the one that got away.
Moore Bond: the wacky Bond
Dalton Bond: the Aggressive Bond
Brosnan Bond: Charismatic Bond
Craig Bond: the grounded Bond
Every Bond actor had 1 bad movie, this was Brosnan's bad movie
I mean it’s the opposite for him because he only had one good movie with Goldeneye and the rest are either meh or in this case terrible. Which sucks cause he’s a great Bond.
I heard with Daniel Craig it was every other movie that was bad or good depending on how you look at it. I personally liked them all though.
@Maxrepfitgm see I definitely disagree with that, I'd say his last one was the worst. Casino Royale was great, quantum of solace was good, but a bit of a slow burn, skyfall was awesome and Javier Bardem played a great villains and Spectre was probably the best of them, at least imo
@@OmegaSaiyan92Man what is with the No Time to Die hate. I always thought the popular consensus with Craig was the odd number ones (Casino Royale and Skyfall especially) were the good ones and then Quantum of Solace and Spectre were mediocre as hell. I thought No Time to Die was a solid end for Craig’s Bond.
Well I'm not always with the popular consensus@@gcolbyp
I loved the majority of the Sean Connery movies, except for maybe Diamonds Are Forever
Roger Moore's movies were a little on the cheesier side, but i still enjoy them somewhat, except View To Kill, that was trash
His Majesty's Secret Service i didn't care for, or either of the Timothy Dalton movies
Brosnan (who i still say was the best bond) had 3 great movies and then this one (die another day) sucked
and Daniel Craig i liked all of them, except for No Time To Die, i hated the ending, i didn't really like any of the side characters and Rami Malek (much to my disappointment) just didn't do it for me as the villain
I love that since this was the 20th Bond film and the 40th anniversary of Dr. No, they slipped in easter eggs and references from the previous 19 films.
License To Kill theme is most power one by Gladys Knight
RaceSwap
It's just You Only Live Twice - in reverse.
"some of these movies only live Once"
- "Smooth" Corey Coleman
Man, you ain't lying 🤣
"Some of these movies only live once." Classic line!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂 I lol at this.
Can you do Timothy Dalton’s James Bond Review?
Which? He was Bond for 2 movies
It was my very first Bond movie, so I can't help but love Die Another Day. It's completely ridiculous and dumb throughout, but it does have one of my favorite Bond car stunts when they're driving on ice, Bond's car is upside down, but he flips it with the ejector seat and *just* dodges Zhao's missile.
I’m kinda surprised y’all were a bit more positive on this, I think this movie sucks. Not only the worst Brosnan Bond movie, but one of, if not the worst Bond movie IMO. Honestly it’s pretty sad that this came out the same year as an Austin Powers movie and somehow that one had more stakes and not as dumb. Thankfully the franchise went up 3 years later with Casino Royale even if the Craig films were up and down in quality.
How I wished Rosamund Pike were in a better bond movie. It's a silly movie but I am quite fond of it.
I had a phase where I was obsessed with hovercraft because of the opening of the movie.
I always thought it would be cool to have two separate Bond series kind of like we have two Godzilla series now. One gritty realistic and serious set in modern day and the other sillier more over the top set in the 60’s.
Perfect for roasting the The World is not Enough Previous Bond Flim 1999
Nightfire on the PS2 was my first 007 game.
Way back in high school, when discussing James Bond movies with my friends, I described this one as "That James Bond movie where the technology looks like it was designed by Hasbro" 😜🤣
I could've sworn you guys did this movie. This is going to be a good one!
I remember being in the theater and hysterically laughed when Bond said, "I'm checking out", I don't know why.. Other than Goldeneye, the Brosnan bond films is part of what made Casino Royale such a breath of fresh air.
23:08 It's not about not offending anyone, in the original Top Gun they never said who the enemy was.
The main villain is now Poseidon in Percy Jackson
Asian man turning British was funny
Asians have a white skin fetish. That's pretty accurate.
I really enjoyed this movie back in the day
I did too, even saw it at the cinema, thought it was GOOD back then.NOW,totally different tho. LOL. Halle Berry is the best thing about this film now.
I still love this Bond movie ❤ 🎞️ it’s the last best quirky Bond movie 🍿
That's it! This isn't a James Bond movie, it's the long-lost third Derek Flint film! Man, that makes so much more sense...
Martin they didn't steal that from The Fast in the Furious Die Another Day came out in 2002 Fast & furious with Jason Statham they started doing that in 2013 so Fast and the & furious stole that from them lol
They didn't turn Bond Japanese...they turned him into a Romulan from Star Trek lol..
The BIGGEST problem Die Another Day dealt with was the fact that the Bourne Identity came out in the same year. A spy thriller with great fight choreography, atmospheric camera shots, and gritty/realistic car chases. All of this backed by a fantastic early-00s techno soundtrack. Bond looked even more like a parody than Goldmember.
God Die Another Day was one of my favorites as a kid! But it definitely isn’t perfect 😂 that opening song is the worst but Pierce is one of my favorite bonds as well as Roger and Sean. I’m sure it’s pure nostalgia but this, For Your Eyes Only and From Russia With Love were always on repeat when I was younger
James Bond got caught in Goldfinger when he tried to escape the factory after using the ejector seat!!!
Even though I like the movie it'll be funny if you all reviewed it...TEKKEN from 2010. Based on the fighting video game. Has Cary Tagawa from Mortal Kombat. Also if yall havent yet, review Mortal Kombat from 95. Great review btw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what'd you think of the DoA movie?
I actually enjoyed it. Dosnt take it self too seriously, its fun, beautiful women, and a great scene involving Ryu Hayabusa . Close to a Ninja Gaiden film we got. @@thecunninlynguist
Pierce Brosnan had a great 1st Bond movie. Goldeneye is a classic. Die Another Day should've been a better sendoff for him.
It wasn’t made to be a send off and he was ticked off when he found out they were replacing him.
Oh Gustav is the main character in this great show I’m watching called Black Sails.
This is the first Bond movie I, ever watched from start to finish and liked. And I came up in the Roger Moore era.

Mr. Kill is the Uruk-Hai Orc that Aragorn chopped the head off of in Fellowship of the Ring.

Right after this movie there was talks of EON creating a spin off movie just for Jinks. How’d that work out
lol it could still get made.
@@anubusx nah the boat sailed 22 yrs ago
This movie is pretty bad but I’ve always thought that I’d rather have a terrible bond movie that I can at least laugh at its silliness then on me that’s just boring like Spectre
At least it's not as bad as the 1967 'Casino Royale', you need scientists from NASA or MIT to figure that shit out.
This has one or two good moments - the hovercraft chase is decent and that fencing duel escalates in an enjoyably ridiculous way. But mostly it sucks - particularly that theme song from Madonna.
It's an incel trying to take over the world what's there to get? Nah, jk, that movie really was insane
Only thing I remember about this is that fire ass Madonna song
My favorite classic song by Madonna
Her acting in the movie was super cringy lol 😂
I remember when this movie came out. Thanks for sharing this retro movie review.
This isn't a retro movie, it was up to date and state of the art at its time of release.
With all the divisive movies it’s good to see a review to help us Bond.
