Die Another Day - Caravan Of Garbage

- We are back to cap off our Pierce Brosnan James Bond review with what is considered the worst in the series, 2002's Die Another Day. This time he tangles with a British guy who's really a Korean guy, there's a man with diamonds in his face, Halle Berry makes her first and final apperance as the superspy Jinx, there's super cars a plenty, ice palaces, sun mirror lasers, horrible CGI windsurfing, electricity suits and it's all just the worst. Thanks for following along with this batch of Caravan of Garbage, appreciate the support.

#Bond #007
Knowing he had to rebuy the game for the next set of Bond films they did makes this even funnier.
7:48 I love the idea of Bond just having an existential crisis where he realizes he is just a sociopathic murder who makes sadistic quips whenever someone is killed, upon seeing someone else do the exact same thing in front of him.
same
Time to face gravity general moon
Time to face reality mr bond
Seeing James' real face in motion is giving me an existential crisis
I thought you were talking about James Bond and got really confused ;)
You and me both hahahaha. Even though I've seen his face before it doesn't match the image my brain made up and now everything I have ever known is a lie.
Ben needs a cartoon avatar because his cameos are driving people mad with sexual frustration.
Jack Richardson Unpopular opinion those are sum good lookin men no homo tho
@BuddhaBoyPaints Like this is legit what I thought for the longest time when I first started tuning into these vids. That's the image his voice generates in my mind. Some blond haired, surfer looking dude in his mid 20's lol
I love that when Bond trains in VR he essentially plays a first person shooter in an homage to GoldenEye N64 (and it looks a lot like the level of TWINE that James played last week). Not only did this movie reference each of the past 19 movies and the book Birds of the West Indies, from which Fleming borrowed the name James Bond, but they even slipped in a video game tribute! Too bad none of that energy was spent on the plot, characters, or dialogue
That scene to me felt like it was suppose to set up a climax/final fight where that technolagy is involved.
They just went over the top with the cheesey dialogue and gadgets. The actual plot is pretty good.
Donald Trump Brofeld stolen from Austin Powers in Goldmember.
I remember reading that Roger Moore's commented on this movie:
"Its a silly movie. And my Bond went to space!"
It's a shame because the movie starts really well story wise. I mean Bond getting caught, being tortured for months and that affecting him during the movie while he's searching for the traitor that screwed him over is a great concept.
Yeah the film for me falls apart the moment he goes to Cuba, the opening is quite strong.
Agreed. Maybe my favorite opening act of a Bond film
If only they had used a different song. It's hard to be emotionally invested in the brutal torture Bond is being subjected to while a Madonna techno song bloops and bleeps over it.
Some movies have great, promising first acts; and later they go downhill.
Other examples on the top of my head are Scoob, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and Amazing Spiderman. It tends to happen a lot to franchise films that try to step away from the franchise's recipe and fail.
It was bold and refreshing at the time to do that with the Bond character. As poor as the rest of the film got toward the end I would still watch this over anything since Casino Royale.
It's like the opening sequence was done by a completely different filmmaker.
James Patterson I’d agree, but the surfing into Korea was a clue
@eating sugar no papa Exactly.
This is like James Bond movies want to be like Spykids.
Actually that was TWINE. Not nearly as much as this movie but things like that stupid plot point of a bullet slowly traveling through Renard’s brain that’s slowly killing him but also keeping him alive, that really dumb Caviar factory action sequence with the helicopters with chainsaws that looks a Universal Studios attraction and James Bond using a blinds cord to rappel out of a 50 foot window. It hinted at how ridiculous the series was going to get with DAD. People say the Roger Moore era was where it all went silly but they clearly forgot the Pierce Brosnan era. Moore’s movies are tame by comparison.
@ECKohns it definitely is xXx. It could very well be a xXx sequel.
@ECKohns he was a huge factor as to why that one flopped. Fortunately he didn’t cause the Bond series to die with this mess.
F
This is the Batman and Robin of James Bond films
No that's Moonraker
@@Bale4Bond I've always said the TDK trilogy were Bourne movies where he wears a funny special ops suit
That's it, that's exactly what it is
Would that make Casino Royale the Batman Begins of James Bond?

Ben has had his Moneyball moment in editing. It was solid, but then the urea topic was brought up; congrats Ben you did it you mad lad.
Deffo more Ben needed!
Must've been so inspired
@@alphabettical1 Amazing film that is probably going to be considered one of the great baseball movies of all time. I agree with Ben that is one of the best uses of stock footage I've seen
Why does the bad lightning Iron-Man suit have an “electrocute yourself” button?
I know.
😆😆😆
Aaron Nicholls maybe it was Graves’ kink, I mean Bond has a piss kink so you never know
It's also less effective than your average taser.
Because, at heart, all Bond villains are morons!!
its for auto-erotic electrocution
I wasn’t expecting the Rich Evans RLM cameo 😂
I clapped!
I wasn’t looking at the screen 😭😂 it caught me off guard, my sleep paralysis demon returned
damebain I know what that is!
They broke new ground!
Bravo to the editor for that entire sequence, it was hilarious
Die another day, unless you're one of the many people who are killed in this movie.
Pass away on the same day
I love the Ben insert shots. Just reminds us that James and Maso aren't above having personal servants doing their bidding 24/7.
Gustav Graves: I'm just a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude!
I was more shocked to realize that it was Toby Stephens playing him. Never knew he played a bond villain. Of course the film does him no favors so you don't realize he's actually an amazing actor. To see that you need to watch him in the series Black Sails where he completely kills it as one of the main characters Captain Flint.
Thought I was watching Demo Disk for a second
wanted jon to come on and break the disk
Hahaha yes I was hoping Bruce or Jon would come in and snap it
Was not expecting a cameo by Rich Evans. Note to self: turn down the speakers.
If I knew Rich was gonna be in this I would've turned the volume UP for max laughter
Rich Evans DURING a Metal Gear joke!? Perfect!
Which movie is he watching in that scene?

So we've got - a guy who is diamonds, the last fight is against a lightning-man who electrocutes himself, VR training, someone is re-written into someone else through goofy science, if the music was good, this would basically be Metal Gear.
The music is good though. The David Arnold score anyways.
The snapping the disc moment was wonderful!
If you love snapping discs go watch funhaus
I was worried the whole time because if it did break, it probably would have fucked up his hand with the way he was squeezing it. Broken discs can be like razor blades.
@@ajet0452 That is exactly what I thought of!

8:21 There are two genders: male and political.
Die Another Day is a great Fast and Furious movie.
That’s why it had Rick Yune from the first fast and furious movie. (SWAT came into my house, disrespected my family!) it also had a greater emphasis on cars. (Moon’s car collection and the car battle between Bond and Zao).
0/10 No mentions of "family"
Thread Bomb Also Heineken (drank by the thugs at the bar in Cuba) instead of Corona.
16:45 The one game James breaks and it's the one he ends up needing a year later for the Skyfall Caravan of Garbage.
Okay when Rosamund Pike's character died, I can't believe that no one said "All is fair in love and war".
I feel like the Brosnan Bonds were negatively effected by the Austin Powers films coming out at the same time
eating sugar no papa Yeah duh. But they released in 1997, 1999, and 2002. The same year as all of the Brosnan Bond movies except Golden Eye
16:51 the names Bend, James Bend
Yes this movie is awful, but it did give us the scene where Halle Berry comes out of the water sooo...that counts for something
Could've just watched Swordfish.
Die Another Day is awesome and criminally underrated. Best Bond movie ever.
@@MaxNeugebauer. it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, granted I saw back it in 2004 (once); but, the Bond series has always had dumb shit in it.

Fun fact this movie was originally called James Bond: Pass Away on a Different Date. Personally I don't see why they changed it
oH mY gOd ... You didn't mention that Rosamund Pike was also in Gone Girl!!!!
More like Mr. Scumbag movies, amirite?
😂😂😂I guess the disc wanted to.... Die Another Day
Nerd talk here: “my friends call me James Bond” is a callback to the line used when Bond meets Tanya in From Russia With Love.
Classic Bond.
So stupid. But so charismatic.
"Yeah I'll just tell everyone exactly who I am and never really use a pseudonym for more than 20 seconds before blurting out my extremely iconic and memorable name that the criminal underground likely knows very well. What's the worst"?
The CD "Breaking" got my like.
This was the first bond movie I ever watched... I kinda still love it even though it’s as dumb as a bag of hammers. I wish we had more of these cheesy bad bonds >,
Best part of the movie was the beginning sequence, followed by the presence of Rosamond Pike.
Movie: "I take it Mr. Bond has been explaining his Big Bang Theory"
Me: "Bondzinga"
0:25 The 'To Be Continued' joke got me. Good work Ben! Here's your Like
My appreciation of this comment has gone up
I like how they criticize Bond for being good at surfing, when he clearly invented snowboarding in A View To A Kill. Of course, he'd be good at surfing. Come on!
That Rich Evans laugh is internet gold
Unexpected Rich Evans is amazing.
I’ll die today if I want to, thank you very much.
Who remembers the 007 Nightfire video game?? 🔥
16:50 I thought the guy works out.
Well, what would you expect from Mr Scumbag Movies.
Oooooh, Got 'Eeeeeem!
Ah man James how did you miss that legendary actor Pierce Brosnan was almost replaced by Michael Joseph Jackson for Die Another Day?
Wha? How so?
@@chrissonofpear1384 It's a bad joke.
That scene with Bond and Jinx laying on diamonds was more dangerous than you think. Halle Berry said in an interview that she almost choked to death during that scene and Brosnan had to perform the Heimlich Maneuver.
If only she could've stopped eating handfuls of diamonds
Rosamund Pike is still great in this. Everything or Nothing is the best Bond game.
Before I clicked this, I did not expect to hear the audible heavenly joy of Rich Evans' laughter. I'm not remotely upset about this at all.
Great work as always, boys!
I'm not a huge Bond fan but I really enjoyed this movie - it's so silly and constantly over the top I had a lot of fun! I finally understood what people liked about the Moore Bonds.
Way more entertaining than the Craig films.
@@caza728😂
You needed that disc for the CoG show about Skyfall next week! It's gonna cost you money
You know what’s fun that I just noticed on my last watch of From Russia with Love? Bond introduces himself the exactly same way. “My friends call me James Bond.”
So we can’t actually blame DAD for that bizarre piece of dialogue! 😂
They honestly cocked this up by going for the corny factor. If they had properly explored the damage he suffered while being tortured and made it a gritty Bond's-gone-rogue story where he tracks down his captives and maybe even discovers a deeper plot then it could of been so sick and well ahead of its time.
I think it's got ridiculous parts that hold it back, but some good aspects too. The invisible car is no more overpowered than half the gadgets bond was using in the 60s would have been at the time. He has a magnet that can deflect bullets and a self driving car at various times when those things didn't exist, and then the bond-car vs bond-car was used in Spectre after all, so it's not a bad idea.
By far the dumbest thing in it is that electric suit, which could so easily have just been a bulletproof suit with some mechanical parts to make it easier to wear (making bond's ppk useless) indicating the villain actually knows bond well.
The idea of a secret clinic where the rich and criminal can change their identity isn't bad either.
If they'd avoided overreaching their CGI and made the tone a bit more serious it could have been a classic.
Still loved this film as a kid. Had it on video, watched it on repeat. Loved his sweet car
You had poor taste as a kid
I would love to see the 96 doctor who movie in caraban of garbage!
Good pick...plenty to talk about there!
I don't think James or Maso know anything about Dr Who.
Very much enjoyed this retrospective. Would love to see you watch through some of the earlier Bond films - the Dalton era's a easy commitment since he only did 2 films and they're both pretty underrated.
This movie is, by far, the silliest brosnan movie... But I quite well like fencing scene 🤷♂️
10/10 Disc Snapping
Bending....eventually
Funhaus has them beat
This is one of those movies where I was lucky to be a kid when it was released so I love it. All the points are valid but I've nostalgia eyes and I love the goofiness - even the song is great even though I absolutely agree with everything you've said.
Look guys, I'm from the UK, and I have to say I really don't appreciate the way you included Boris Johnson in that video... I really didn't want to see his gross face today
James I'm here from the future don't break the disk!
oh no
Pffft you're not my dad I'm going to break it with zero consequences
I feel the regret of breaking the game disc now that he has to do Skyfall.
I love that you guys suggested that you snap the "007 Legends" game disc in half, for pain relief.
What a wild ride this retrospective was! I think we can all agree the legacy that the Brosnan era has left us is that he is our quintessential video game Bond and no one is gonna be able to top him in that respective.
This is the attack of the clones of the bond movies
At least attack of the clones brought us the clone wars 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️die another day brought nothing to the Bond franchise other than Daniel Craig as the next Bond.
The boring middle one in a terrible trilogy?
I love the editing on this one, great work. Masons "I´m ready" nearly broke me xD
The worst bong song, ironically the best song of the American Life album.
It's one of two Bond themes I really despise, with Lulu's "The Man with the Golden Gun"
There are others that are mediocre but I don't hate them so much
Review LXG and both Amazing Spider-Man films.
I'd like to see him play a villain in a bond film, who is the same bond he played, who has turned evil, it would be interesting to see.
It wouldn’t make sense though because Bond is one man and Craig is in his own timeline separate from the others
@@EditedAF987 probable, however, my headcanon for the 007 universe is that James bond is not one man, but an Alias given to different agents who use the same 00 status number.
The electric guy in this vs palpatine
Gustave doesn't have *UNLIMITED POWER*
Li-Li Mandragon but hypothetically if this is taken place on a regular sized football stadium could he not just connect to the electricity
It's a very jarring movie. It starts off serious and then goes silly. If it had stayed in one time or the other I think people would like it.
I personally enjoyed it. It's got memorable moments. Unlike Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough where I have to think for a bit on what happened

Be honest with yourself and your therapist. They have helped many people I consider friends and myself. If you feel any dramatic mood swings contact your Dr. right and explain to them how you feel. You have tons of help available to you and online support groups are a click away. Follow what your therapist tells you and you will see quality change in your life. I'm not going to lie and tell it is easy though. Finding the right medication level and sometimes therapist can be difficult for some. When you feel like therapy is not working it actuals is and over time you will see that if you stick with it. As a brit, I can confirm Boris Johnson is a hilarious meme of a man

Invisible Car Scenarios: "Hey where did these tyre tracks come from? Why do they stop out here in the middle of the base? Hey what's this, an invisible car?"
I don't hate Die Another Day. I find it more entertaining than and imaginative than The World is Not Enough. It's probably the most excessive Bond movie ever made, but I think there is plenty to enjoy. I won't argue its great movie, but I think it's imagination, Pierce Brosnan's performance, action sequences, musical score, and overall celebration of the franchise with it being the 40th anniversary at the time, work in its favor. Also, as the 20th film in the orginal series, it kinda works as an over the top finale in the vain of The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.
Nothing makes me happier than being surprised with a Rich Evans laugh. God bless.
A below average Bond film certainly, but I do love its little nods to the franchise. The book Bond picks up in Cuba when meeting with Raoul is the book from which Ian Fleming got the name James Bond (the author of the book) plus the British Airways stewardess that serves Pierce on his flight back to London is Roger Moore’s daughter.
Brosnan Forrest Gumped Halle Berry
My names James Bond, people call me James Bond
😂
Play the 007 Nightfire game! It's still Pearce Brosnan and was on PC and PS2. Could never do the first level....
Die Another Day is the living embodiment of the "How do you do, fellow kids?" meme.
Die Another Day does contain some great details and moments, but unfortunately they are overshadowed by the completely ludicrous, trying too hard moments.
Madonna's song and role were both total dogshit though!
my favorite line from this series was
Gustav "time to face destiny"
Bond "time to face gravity"
or "looks like your friends have bailed"
I liked when the henchman punches Bond in the stomach and says "How's that for a punchline?"
I liked Bond’s facial expression when he says the bailed line. He looks quite psychotic.
A Caravan of Garbage video that also includes a clip of Rich Evans laughing...
Dreams really do come true.
The thing about Gustav Graves is a shame since because of Die Another Day, I thought the actor (Toby Stephens) was a just a bad actor, but I’m in the middle of watching Black Sails, in which he plays Captain Flint, and he’s really good in that.
Nobody came out of this movie not looking stupid..
Even Halle Berry has been known to act occasionally
LOL glad your watching Black Sails to see his real acting ability. Honestly I saw Black Sails a few years ago and that was the first time I had seen Toby Stephens in anything. Then I watched this COG episode and was shocked to learn that he was once a Bond villain. So seeing him in this film made me sad. To me Black Sails is one of the most underrated series ever. It's easily in my opinion the best pirate related source of media to date. Some people will instantly not like it thinking it's dumb that the pirates don't talk like they should. But those people aren't smart enough to realize that they way pirates talk in say Pirates of the Caribbean or any other fictionalized version you see in Hollywood isn't how they really sounded. As like 90% of pirates were from Britain, America, West Indies, Scots and Welsh with then a decent amount of Africans. So they would just have accents from them places. The entire cast in Black Sails is amazing and most all of them are actors I had never seen in anything else before that point. The only exceptions being Tom Hopper who I had seen in Game of Thrones. Zach McGowan who I knew from Agents of Shield and then the most well known was Ray Stevenson who I have seen in countless things. And felt he was the best Black Beard I have seen. But my favorite character in the series was Jack Rackham.
Was that a JoJo reference? My appreciation of this channel has gone up
The hosts did not recognize Benicio Del Toro on the video...I see, he is an OLD charachter in an ANCIENT movie (License to Kill)...my God.
Here's a nitpick for you: the Art of War is dedicated more to trying to win without fighting than to obliterating (what would be theoretically seizable) enemy territory. Although, if you wanted to be meta about it, both are essentially 'pacifistic' pieces of media attempting to curtail military gratuitousness.
Everything or nothing was such a good game tho. I remember playing it as a kid on my PS2 oh man great days.
Give me everything or nothing at all.
Hong kongs our turf now bond!
I hate to be this guy, but I actually enjoyed this film a fair bit. Especially the intro song. I feel like I've stepped into a parallel world where the rules are flipped.
Edit: Jinx is flipping awful.
Just gonna put this here. The fencing scene, literally everything you didn't like about it, no joking, that was the point. It was Suppose to get crazy. It's meant to put you off, just a bit. Show what's in the mindset of these two people. How far they're willing to go to prove the smallest point.
