    Russia: Feels threatened.

      It's Russian logic westerners are mostly not familiar with. When they expand borders they would never admit doing it. It's always a defense of their motherland because after invasion they declare their prey their rightful property. It's a parallel logic but it works when the only narrative is the one of the state.

    The real reason France is stepping up is that the Russian Wagner forces organized coups in every former French colony in Africa from 2020 up till now. Russia already is at war with France indirectly. France cannot rely on cheap material resources, like uranium for their nuclear energy supply, from those former colonies any more, so the French economy is at stake. The Wagner forces also want cheap resources, but pay more than the French.

      Independent actions of the French Foreign Legion? It's funny how little people outside of France actually know about the Legion, its size, and what it does. The Legion is just 9,000 men (military and civilian personnel included, yes). It represents 7% of the French Army active personnel and just 4% of the French military (so, when you include the navy and air and space force). And yes, it is a corps of the French Army. It is an integral part of it, just like the Troupes de Marines, Alpine Hunters, Hussar, Dragoon and "traditional" regiments are. It is not independent. Legionnaires are officially French soldiers both in French law and in international law. They're not some kind of mercenary force or paramilitary group like Wagner. Even if you handpick just the foreigners in the Legion and send them without their officers (who are all French), you're still sending the French Army lol.
      Also, to actually fight in Ukraine, France would need several combined ams battle groups (alongside US and British ones and others if they want to join) and Legionnaires would be a tiny minority of the French force like has always been the case in conflicts the French Army fights in. It doesn't get deployed to any war alone. There is not a single relevant conflict in French history Legionnaires took part in and in which the Troupes de Marine for example haven't also fought in, and in greater numbers at that (right now they represent around 15% of the French Army, so twice as much as the Legion). The Legion is a regular corps of the French Army, not a special unit or anything like that. They're certainly one of France's elite regular units and are therefore highly trained and have a strong esprit de corps; but what makes the Legion unique is that, per tradition, it is the one and only corps in the entire French military dedicated to foreigners willing to serve France.
      The Legion is therefore a corps of mostly foreign volunteers led by French officers. And I say "mostly" because there are Frenchmen among the regular legionnaires as well beyond the officers. French citizens can apply, even if there is no point as you can join any of the other conventional regiments, including elite ones, if you're deemed fit/competent to do so... or even better than all of that and the Legion, try to join the special forces (well... if you can handle what it takes to enter one of the SF units that is). Some French citizens apply to join the Legion because they've had trouble with the justice, which makes them unable to join the other units (you can't join the military with a criminal record for example). The Frenchmen in the Legion are given foreign identities when they apply (generally a fake French Swiss, French Canadian or French-speaking Belgian ID card lmao).

We are treading on new ground here and who knows what will happen? As to Ukraine negotiating part of Ukraine away to end the war. Mr. Trump, if Canada invades the United States, which part of the United States do you want to give to Canada to end the war? If you are not willing to fight for you whole country, you are not worthy to govern it. The people in those territories that you want to give away elected Zelinski to be their president, not you or Putin.

      Most of territory given away actually wants to join Russia. Their is a sizeable chunk of east Ukraine that is full of Russians and desires to be Russian. Ironically same is semi true for usa, many in North East usa have suggested running away to Canada or having parts of usa join Canada usually the joining is more jokingly but if they did join Canada most of them accept it.
      Secondly Canada is far weaker, but their would be Americans who argue to give them land at least jokingly. But the question of it happening is 0 as Canada can do nothing to usa as their too weak. If america was hypothetically weaker than usa. Than contrary to what you might think america would likely give them land as we don't really hate them, and north east usa is fairly close to much of Canada culturally than it is to southern usa or the middle states.

    • @MarkDalbey-cv9sb
      @MarkDalbey-cv9sb Месяц назад

      This territory was not given away. Russia has tried to take it by force. Otherwise there would not be a war. If an American wants to be a Canadian, move to Canada, people do it all of the time. If a Ukrainian wants to be a Russian, move to Russia. Nobody is stopping them. That sizable chunk of Ukraine that you are saying that is full of Russians wasn't full of Russians before Russia invaded. It is full of Ukrainians. Wants to be a part of Russia? I guess that is why when Ukraine took a vote for independence in the early 90s every single oblast overwhelmingly voted for independence including the one in Crimea. East Oregon keeps voting to be part of Idaho, but it is Oregon. It really does not matter how you vote, you can vote with your feet. Does every single person in eastern Ukraine want to be Russian? Don't they have the right not to be Russian? I do not know what the people of the North East find funny. I don't live there. Does somebody who does not even live on this continent know something that I don't? Saying that Canada would not invade the U.S. because it is much weaker is probably true. Much like Ukraine probably will not invade Russia, because it is much weaker. Yet Putin says that Ukraine is a threat to Russia. Smaller countries tend not to invade larger counties, at least countries that are 3x larger. I do not speak Russian and I do not post in Russian. HAD, is the magic word here. The west will not make this mistake with Russia ever again. They pretty much thought that they could actually get on good terms with Russia by letting them have a seat at the table and even gave them veto rights in several institutions, including security council of UN which Russia also blatantly exploited to prevent resolutions against themselves lol.
      I'd say if Russia thinks they can keep playing this game without repercussions or actually challenging us to put boots on the ground, they should try and see if this game wins them stupid prizes at some point. NATO and western nations only appeased Russia because we thought that Russia would be more open to be actual partners opposed to what the USSR was, but the mask is dropped now. And I got the feeling that at some point NATO might consider actually using ground forces and conventional warfare despite nuclear being a possibility. But seriously, Putin will eventually loose in this cat and mouse game if he overplays his hand. We all called his bluff several times by now, so the nuclear threat is completely empty because we all know that Putin is a gambler, and would never even consider nuclear war as a viable alternative. The only exception would be an active invasion into russia itself.
