How I Dig Footings For A Walkout Basement

  • How I go about digging footings for a walkout basement. I try to go over the steps and some of the questions I get about digging footings on these basements. The material on this job was a mixture of clay and rock so it doesn't make the best looking footings. I explain how I dig the corners so that they don't break off. If you want to see better footing videos I highly recommend Digginok! Frank is amazing at digging all types of footings and great at explaining what he is doing and why. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #footings

    Soil compaction tests must be really high to allow that narrow of a footing. Here in North MS we generally are at least 24" wide and it's not uncommon to see 36" wide. Good video!

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  3 года назад +1

      We have a ton of rock here. Code is 16” wide and they usually pour it wide on the top. When I dig the footings for my house they were 36” and 36” deep I used 75 yards of concrete in them 🤣 just a bit over kill. Appreciate you watching

      @@eliteearthworksllc wider is better, just like tracks on equipment as far as the bearing weight distribution. The key is rebar placement for adding ducitibility to the Crete. I build houses and dig my own footings and backfill. Enjoy watching the guys who run equipment full time so I can get my classroom skills the easier way and avoid as many deficiencies as possible as someone who is what I consider a sometimer operator . Enjoy the channel and found out about you through the Letsdig18 channel. 👊 Our codes call for engineer compaction testing and our inspectors have to pass your rebar and excavating before we can pour the footings. I also am a licensed inspector.

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  3 года назад

      That’s cool! Thanks for checking out the channel! Yes they have to inspect the footing and rebar here as well before they can pour. We are a little behind in some of the codes. As long as it’s 16” wide and will have 30” of coverage at final grade that’s all they really worry about. And our frost like here is about 18” we stay fairly warm compared to most places.
