Good Video Piet but room needs some sound absorbing material, way too much reverberation from nothing to absorb the echo from the hard smooth walls, ceiling (and assuming floor too from the sounds of it). Also, that Mag is 3.715 on the outside dimension, so your max COAL is going to be about 3.615" by time you take away the wall thickness (If I remember correctly, the material thickness for those mags are .045", so .090" of total wall thickness plus a small bit of clearance .010 so the loaded rounds don't drag and get hung up and you're down to 3.615" max COAL). I surprised MDT didn't make the ESS in a C.I.P. (3.850") mag.
Loving this build I've just purchased a 300prc in a howa 1500 with a mtd oryx chassis can't wait to shoot it. Keep up the great RUclips video's. Ps I'm in Australia love the channel
What mag did you get? The oryx for m1500 long action doesn't say it accepts cup magazines. And the only 300 prc mag is a cop length. I'm Looking to do this same build
@@josephseebart8488 I did the exact same build : ) no, as you say, the Oryx mag well does not accept 300 PRC mags, I'm considering options including milling out the little bit of aluminum preventing this from working; but it would require a delete of the mag release lever. Seems like your in a hard surfaced sound reflective room. You could add some sound deadening materials on the walls. Simple stick on foam would help the audio pick up your true voice. Foam with a lot of pointy cones like that of the inside of a foamed rifle hard case would work best. Nice review 👍
I hated the Hact 2 trigger on my .300 WM when I first got it. Now I love it. Once you can master that pressure and eliminate the 1st stage its pretty smooth.
Pieter, greetings from Georgia, USA. I enjoyed your video. I have a Howa 6.5cm that I dropped in a LSS Gen 2 MDT chassis. Topped it with Vortex rings and a 5x25-56 Strike Eagle. I added a Magpul PRS Gen 3 buttstock and an Erik Cortina tuner brake. It shoots great! Saw you in some videos from the South Africa tournament this year as well as The Rockchuck Olympics.... I have the same shirt, it gets some odd looks...Alan L.
great build video, the last one, a bit asmr , like those mountain bike assembly videos, but one tip, use a vice to hold the stock, that way, you can Torque the screws down with a torque wrench and have two hands free, as well as not maring the parts while tightening them.
I had a Howa 300PRC in an ESS chassis also. I had the chassis milled slightly to accept the 3.850" magazines, so much more room for loading the 220gr+ projectiles. We also did a little work on the factory Howa feed ramp, just to allow smooth feeding of the long rounds. I sold the set-up around 12 months ago, was a great package with a 28" custom heavy barrel and a Nightforce NX8.
I bought a Howa 6.5 PRC and now waiting for the license. Unfortunately I couldn’t afford a MDT as I wanted so I settled for the TSPX from SCSA. Looking forward to building mine. Thanks for the great channel.
Thank you for the comment on the trigger setup. I thought I was going insane. Really love your videos. Keep up the great work. BTW, the audio was good. There are some echos, but you did say it was a new space.
I have a Howa 1500 in 308. I agree that the trigger sucks. There is a company here in the states where I live. In Iowa. It is called Jard triggers and I don't mind it at all. That's something you could try.
I was gonna do this!!! Never knew of this video, I'm happy I watched this because I was curious how he managed to fit 300 prc in the ess chassis for the howa because the mags specifically for the 300 prc are a little bit longer and not compatible with the howa long action chassis, but I don't reload my own ammo yet and don't want to worry about the length of the round fitting in a 300 win mag magazine
6.5 and 300 PRC are hopefully going to be one of my next calibers for a mid-range $$$ build. I built a budget rifle 2 years ago, and used some of your collective knowledge as a platform to collect parts and build up my rifle. I ended up going with a Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 ffp. The rifle is a Bergara B14 B.M.P chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I chose the 6.5 Creedmoor after watching you and all the information provided while shooting it. It has been an absolute fantastic rifle for me and has more than served as purpose in both target shooting, and hunting. Thank you for everything you do Pete.
If you are using 6.5cm for "long range" the 300prc will be almost boring out to 1400yds. I have the bergara premier HMR in 300prc and it's a lazer out to 1500yds.
@@kirkmartin2223 I appreciate the feedback. Longish range for me where I live is between 100-1000 yds in my state. That is what my local gun club range provides. That is the maximum amount of ground that I have to work with unless I find a land owner with a decent amount of acreage that is nice enough, and willing to let me use his property for shooting. With my rifle I have had good consistent impacts out to 1000 yds. But id like to be able have the ability to reach out as far as 15-1800 yds with the 300prc in the future if the opportunity presents itself.

Brownells exclusives Howa 1500 action & barrel 300 wm & prc is 1/2”28 thread. I thought it was some type of typo or wrong listing because 1/2”28 is really strange for 30cal usually it is 5/8”24 but in this case it’s not. Customer purchase confirmed the thread is in fact 1/2”28 and now I can’t find any muzzle breaks that has a 1/2”28 thread for 30cal. I’m in US
I know this is nine months later, but I also bought mine from Brownells and was confused as hell asking my gun shop what thread brake I should order Ultimately when the action arrived it was a 5/8x24, for sure because I bought and installed the following brake Ultradyne Apollo Max Compensator, .308/7.62, 5/8x24
I also purchased a barreled action from Brownells in 300 win mag. The barrel contour said "standard" in the description and was listed with 1/2x28 threads. When I picked up the barrel at my local FFL, surely enough it was exactly as described.
