      It’s published online but they chose the Southern route with too many police cars and faulty chargers thus they did not break the record but posted the video as an attempt.
      Obviously Alyssa established a record for a PHEV cannonball as Kyle mentioned.
      As much as Kyle hates PHEVs that technology is the way to go for regular folks on long road trips in the middle of the USA and Canada if they choose to avoid the headache of “fast”, faulty, nonexistent, broken, off-line, iced, taken by somebody forcing the EV driver to wait in line, unreachable due to short range especially in cold weather, expensive, unusable with a credit card without a phone app charging sessions.
      I am wholeheartedly for inexpensive small, nimble EVs used for commute for folks able to plug and charge them at night, preferably in their own garage.
      At this point I am much more inclined to support a working truck with plugs for tools like Ford F-150 Lightning used on a construction site or an adventure vehicle from Rivian for weekends than a non-comfortable rear punishing suspension from Tesla for long trips with its well developed “fast” and expensive to use charging infrastructure which is too slow anyway by comparison with a gasoline fill up.

    USB A is not only for old people but also for stingy folks not wishing to spend money for phone upgrade and keeping the old one until it dies. Besides some folks do not want even new USB C cables since the old one do work even with a new iPhone. Yes for android phones the new cables are needed.

    • @Ed20942
      @Ed20942 Год назад

      USB-C to USB-A adapters exist. You can easily convert C to A and plug your existing cable into that, or skip the adapter and get a cable that goes from C to whatever port you have (commonly, Lightning, C, or microUSB for older devices).
      Type-A is okay in a car at least, but it’s just a bit less convenient to have an A port instead of C, especially since fast charging for the most part requires type C on the charger/host end. So if you want fast charging it has to be C to (Lightning or C). Therefore type-A is really just a legacy port, while I’m sure some people just don’t want any adapter or new cable, it’s a Lucid, you can afford a $5 adapter or cable if you can afford an $80k Lucid. Unless Lucids are raining from the sky or something.

      @@Ed20942 USB 3C is crucial only for a laptop using that port to charge. Otherwise there is no essential difference in charging speed if charging any phone with any cable. I salute cars keeping legacy connectivity by supporting besides USB type 3C not only traditional USB type A but also the traditional 12 V port used in the past for lighting the cigarettes and more recently for electronic devices charging: the car is designed for all sort of folks not only for nerds.
      For instance a 12 V charging port can be used for a refrigerator-cooler in the luggage compartment while USB has no such use since it is using only 6 V. Also I highly admire the regular 110 V AC outlets in the car allowing extreme versatility in charging any device which I have in a vehicle equipped with a very cool but already obsolete blue ray disk player.
      Obviously I do not see the point for supporting the extremely obsolete technology like 8track from 60-ties or even for more exaggeration optional Hi Fi Highway Victrola vinyl Record player from Chrysler luxury vehicles from 50-ties - I opt just for common sense.
      Oddly enough both my 2002 VW Passat and even Toyota Prius 2005 came with Compact Cassette players integrated with CD changers even at the time all US manufacturers forgot about Compact Cassettes. I did not have the chance to use those both media since they quickly faded off from technological landscape by the time I was using those cars.

      @@nevco8774 There is no “USB 3C”. USB-C is a port like USB-A. USB 3.x (3.1, 3.2, or 3.0) is a protocol that is used for data devices, and cars do use USB 2.0 data for CarPlay and Android Auto, but otherwise the data speed is irrelevant. Kyle was talking about the port type obviously, and so am I, USB-C versus USB-A.
      No one said anything about the 12 volt and in fact I believe they’re using it to charge various cameras or for the radar detector. You didn’t need to bring that up.
      The charging speed makes a difference especially when your phone is below 50% charge. iPhones replenish the battery about twice as fast with USB C instead of USB A. What takes 30 minutes with C takes 50 with A. However the full charge difference is much closer. It takes 1:50 to charge at 12 watts (USB A maximum, however most cars I know of would deliver about 10 watts at most, at 10 watts it would be over 2 hours, and 50% would take an hour). It takes about 1:30 with C at 20 watts. This makes a difference in a shorter car ride. I understand not everyone cares about this but getting more charge in the same time is a better trade off than just forcing a legacy cable on everyone. Plus people have iPads and those are power thirsty and really need C for a good car charging experience. A person with a Lucid probably would bring an iPad on their road trips and have a much better time.

      @@Ed20942 USB C is a format supported from USB 3.1 protocol, sorry I meant 3.1 able to support in some devices thunderbolt technology but not necessarily. It is true USB 3.0 was still using ports type A or modified B but not C.

    • @kens97sto171
      @kens97sto171 Год назад

      THey are talking about the USB ports in the car.. not on there phones. I agree with you though. USB-A is still more common. Go to any gas station to get a new charging cord.. It will be USB -A to whatever.. Your not likely to find USB-C to USB-C at most average gas stations.
