I love that you're making this fun little car more well known, but I hope people understand that this isn't representative of the experience of most e-Golf drivers. In my 2017 with the larger battery, which has little degradation after 50k miles, a round trip from Fort Collins to Denver would involve one charging session before heading home. In summer it has 120 mile range, so in winter let's say around 100 miles, which is plenty for the one way distance of 65 miles.
I legit saw e golf and thought it was a golf cart! Lol

Ford Focus EV with CCS is a DC fast charging monster. Very similar to the e-Golf, but with liquid cooling/heating of battery pack. CCS charge after CCS charge and it rips the whole time. AND Ford Focus EV works with Tesla Magic Dock ;-)
Hi Kyle - 2016 egolf SE here. You don’t have to go to the menu to reset the counters. The wiper stalk has a small button on it. Use the up-down toggle on the side of the stalk to switch the screen to “Distance from Start” or “Distance since Charge.” Hold the button and it will reset the counter.
I had the car for 6 months before I ever saw the button! It’s pretty hidden. It’s under the “OK/RESET” words.

Likewise for the SEL (with the steering wheel-mounted controls). You hold down OK and after a few seconds it will reset.
Thanks for this - I have an older VW Group car where I can reset counters from the stalk and was wondering if it still worked on this one.

Bagging on a Prius @ 8:33 then getting turtled (or what ever you call the battery equivalent of fumes) @14:15 while the Prius twins probably kept on cruising. Teasing asside I love how you laugh in the face of range anxiety.
Prius are nice cars to convert to plug-in or pure EV mode.
Toyota left a pretty big space in the trunk fore more batteries.
I love the older EV content. I'd love to turn an E-Golf into an autocross car.
I once owned a Kia Soul EV and road tripped it all over the state. One trip required 4 charging stops each direction, 8 DC charging sessions in one day. I never experienced throttling at the DC chargers and it was an air cooled battery. It would pull 40-50kw every time, even in summer.
2014 Nissan leaf owner here. My drives from Albany NY to Philly sure are an adventure, especially in the winter
I charged my e-Golf on Magic Dock. Got 39 kW. Scott’s Valley, CA worked fine.

On Android, to avoid full re-download just clear the app storage. Hold app icon > App info > Storage & cache > Clear storage.

Would definitely love to see an update after you've done some more repairs and maintenance on it. I drive a 2012 VW GTI and love the platform. I was looking into a 2019 e-Golf as an intro to electric vehicles since it would be simply moving from an ICE to an EV and it would be familiar enough. Thanks for this update after your vid on the Out of Spec Reviews channel!
Jeez. Walter's huge! haha, last time I saw him in a vid he was a pup. I dig the e-Golf a lot, Golf's in generally handle very well and are fun cars to have. They really should bring them back but I guess they are all in on the IDs now.

Kyle, EVgo has been gaslighting me for years that there is absolutely no problem with their chargers with eGolfs, you have the exact same experience as me, the short squatties dont work, the high power ones do. They claim they are a real charging company and do interoperability testing, CLEARLY NOT! F EVgo, so hard, I hate them dearly.

18:38 don't need to delete/redownload. just press&hold the app, app info, storage, and clear all data and cache. then you can open as it was just installed :)

It still goes about a hundred miles around town, it’s liquid cooled/can be DC fast charged over and over again until it tapers around 84%.
I’d rather see you play with it other than me trading it in for used Bolt EUV, Niro Ev, or Kona EV 🤷♂️
Could be an interesting project to locate and install a less degraded battery into the egolf.

Thanks for testing the magic dock I was wondering if it would work on a e Golf I have a 2015 SEL and mine don’t want to charge on newer charging stations like what we have here in Canada the network is called the electric circuit but my brother’s 2017 big battery e Golf charges fine could you borrow a 2017 and up Golf and see if it would charge on the Tesla magic dock
So, the app clips are just very small versions of apps; basically for a dedicated function. So, you don’t need the full gas station app, but can just get part that will let you pay. Snd since it’s just for that purpose it’s very compact and streamline

when you went through the e-Golf infotainment - Dave Stewart's "Lily was Here" came on ... I figured "this is going to be one... chill... drive... but TURN THE RADIO DOWN KYLE!" ... then I found it was actually playing in another browser tab I had opened earlier).
A Buc ees is going to open in Johnstown, Co. I've heard so much about them. And they're gonna have Superchargers too. It'll be 1:15 from where we live, but my wife and I are gonna have a driving day out, since we love driving our Model Ys anyway, and see what the Buc ees thing is all about.
Doing much more than 55-60 is not a good idea in the e-Golf if driving far. To much heat build up in the battery.
I was getting around 180Wh/km(3.45mi/kWh) doing 70-80kmh(45-50mph) in -15C(5F) in my 2020 e-Golf. Heat pump is not doing a whole lot at those low temps unfortunately. Temp was set at 23C(~73F) though.
Being on the inner west coast of Norway I don't have motorways to go fast on :)
Put HOT water in a bucket, add Pine Sol and let it site in the car for a day or 2 and it will cut the smokey smell alot. Choose a good scent of Pinr Sol because that will be the car smell.

How sad... not working on Tesla SuC in the US. I've used them here in Norway with my e-Golf 90% of the time as they were the cheapest. Except after November when they actually got crazy expensive here locally. Two other CPOs were cheaper.
If you just charged I would think the since start data would reset once you start moving. It does on the ICE Golfs when you fill up at least, but it does a per tank data screen.

I have a feeling not many people did. The neat thing is that it wasn't a limited-availability "compliance car". It was reasonably popular here in Canada (sales in the thousands) for the last few years it was available.
I have a 2016 e-golf and can never initiate a charge on the Evgo delta chargers. Recently newly updated Siemens charges fault on it too.

pro tip: for android phones, go to apps -> (the app you want to re-install) -> storage -> clear all data
this is a quick substitute for reinstalling apps, I use it all the time because I like to tinker with my phone

I do drive an E-Golf, too, but always charging at home. 40-60c/kwh cost of charging does not make sense at least from an economical pov. Tt this price range, and considering ~3.5 miles/kwh, an ICE car with mpg of 20 will be as fuel efficient or better. Interesting video, though.
That model of stubby delta charger has never once worked with e-golf. I’ve complained many times.

I have a 2017 Fiat 500e I'd like to upgrade to an egolf with dcfc but Kyle got a deal. Most of them I have seen with that charging combo are $17k to $19k
I’ve had such bad luck at EVGO stations with i3 and ID.4. The machines are constantly malfunctioning or offline.
Brave man! You are taking the least reliable electric car in your fleet to take to South Denver! Your wife seems so excited to take the Golf with the smoke smell, not the reliable Tesla.

I’m kinda surprised how expensive that trip was at those charging stations. A 30mpg car would have used $15 in gas assuming $3/gal and while I don’t know where you ended up cost wise it seems like you would have been above that. Maybe $18-20?
I can’t imagine a $10 fee to connect (x4).

Damn, my TDI Jetta has 40 miles of range left when the cluster says 0 miles remaining 🤣 Not gonna lie though, I kinda want an eGolf for my wife to drive back and forth to work 3 miles away, her commute isn't good for the diesel, because it doesn't ever get up to normal operating temp.

Kyle, I appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to test EVs the way you do. However, you're crazy if you like an e-Golf that stinks like cigarette smoke and has such a limited range you have to coast into a charger... 🙂
Amazing: Chevrolet Bolt on fully charged to 100% battery could do the trip with spare range. With special incentives in Colorado it can be bought very cheaply with no need to buy a compliance car like VW eGolf.

Anyone know why EVgo doesn't support Apple Wallet or the Android equivalent for their RFID cards? EA let you set one up immediately on account creation which I think is often the best way to activate besides Plug & Charge.

I own a 2016 e golf first Generation and battery crap out on me. It's no longer drivable. It gives me a message on the dashboard, check the harnes and a code anyway I used to supercharge it every day for 6 years straight since I live in an Apartment complex,I can't charge overnight it only lasted me 103,223 miles on the Odometer also 3 dealers refuse to take it they all sed the we don't have certified technicians to fix it,so I'm just gonna let Vw deposed it.
Have your AAA card ready if you need to go to ANY non-tesla chargers. What a joke the non-Tesla networks are!

I have a great question if you had a national emergency forest fire which of the cat you have would you take in order to the last one ? Or if you don’t want to go hyperbolic had to get to a job interview in 4 hours at 100 miles away and you had not charged the car last night in the golf in a town you don’t know
Nothing better than guessing how charged the car is not to mention coasting into the charging station with only one working charger. EV is still too far away in development for me.

I think EVs are cool as far as technology but that’s it I wouldn’t have one(with 1 exception being the GM/Saturn EV1). I’d rather have a GM or Nissan with a CVT.
