THANK YOU so much for this video. My husband passed away recently and I am learning a lot. I could NOT figure out the back lock on the auto connect. Your video enabled me to finally get this skill under my belt.
Another well thought out instructional video. I would add one thing that I haven't experienced but others have told me. Put your PTO lever to the rear position so that the Mid PTO can rotate freely in case the gear box shaft moves during blade changing or whatever.
I saved this video to a playlist and have watched it every time I've connected or disconnected my mower deck over the past ~2 years. This time I got stuck thinking the rear locking bar was supposed to be flipping the opposite direction of how it actually does. Cleared that right up watching you flip it back and forth a few times. Thanks for your help!
Great video! I was able to get my auto deck off in one try. Really appreciate this video and this channel. Have learned a lot about using my 1025R. New tractor owner and this Channel has helps tons! Thanks again!
Excellent Video! Like you said, all the details for those of us who don''t do it often enough to remember everything. I had the dealer do it the first time so I could install the snow blower but he didn't explain it as thoroughly as you did in this video. Thanks again.
Another tip that I use on my 1025R, is to put the PTO selector lever in Rear PTO only position so that the mid shaft can turn freely during the connection.
I think you demonstrated that very well. Don't know why anyone would complain. I just got my new 1025r with a 60 d mower deck. Got a great price for my trade in. I'm thinking about getting those load n go parts soon. Makes it easier for this old man to move the deck around when I'm not using it. Take care my friend.
great tips, especially about pulling down the coupler. i also learned that if you goose it a little after you're over the mower deck when installing, the coupler seats better. now, i need to go out and hook mine up. thanks for the refresher.
Great video. We spent 2 hrs trying to hook ours up. Found this video and watched the detail from under the tractor to find out how it should be. Then 5 min all hooked up now. Thank you.
After watching this video I can actually uninstall my 47" snow blower and reinstall my mower deck with ease, thank you for your video with all the important information others leave out.
Thank for the belly under side view of the quick attachment parts and location. That a great reference to use if you want to reinstall or install the BXX10229 kit on your 1025. I bought a used mower deck but I need to install the attachments on my tractor to make it work. Once again Thanks for a detailed video of operation Sir
Super instructional video for those who own a drive over deck. After helping pull & push those decks around to hook up or take off, this looks like the nearest thing since sliced bread...
Another comment thanking you for your clear and thoughtful instructions. I also found your tips on using ratchet straps to tie down a tractor on a trailer to be very helpful.
another tip for making sure the deck is square to the tractor when installing it is when approaching the deck, prior to driving over it, put the tractor in 2wd and bump the deck with the front tires. when both tires touch the deck at the same time, back up a bit, put the tractor in 4wd then drive over.
Had a couple trials of reconnecting where the tractor pushed the mower to an angle. Building on this tip I moved the mower last inch or two to get it squared up to the wheels. Backed up a couple inches, then went forward. Voila!
Thank you so much for this video. It’s clear and helpful. I am not the most mechanically inclined person, and these things never go quite as easy as the manuals say, but you really helped me. Thanks again!
When uninstalling a drive over deck on slick concrete a good tip is to lower it onto a thin rubber mat. this eliminates the tendency of the deck to slide around when trying to reinstall it.
Thank you for the detail !!! I'm sure this will be a video revisited in the future for me. The only question I have is what do most folks do with the deck once it is removed? How do they get it in a place that will be out of the way like during the off season? Is it usually hoisted someway like with FEL and taken somewhere else? My wife would not be fond of me leaving it in the middle of the driveway. 😉 Thanks again for taking the time to reproduce the video with further detail. It was excellently done.
My tip would be to not buy a mower deck and just get a Z turn instead. I have had nothing but bad luck, no doubt some operator error. Love your videos!
Just a couple tips that really help me install/uninstall the deck. Tip for uninstalling: Move the control knob to the double L's. Install: Make sure your female connect on the tractor dropped all the way down before driving over the deck, it’s gravity fed, and may or may not go all the way down, it needs to be down all the way, sometimes I have to reach under the tractor and just pull it down a little. Hope these couple tips that I discovered help someone out there like they did me.😊
So this is my rookie list of items for attaching and removing the mower deck for my 2019 1025r. I have a copy of this in the notes section on my phone. To install the mower deck: 1. Have the mower deck on a level surface with the wheels disengaged (If it is on a slick cement floor place a small car floor mat under each side of the deck for additional traction.) 2. Raise the mid-linkage arms up with the (black) rockshaft control lever 3. Having the mid-linkage arms all the way up allows you to now adjust the mower cutting height adjustment knob to the “install” position 4. Lower mid-linkage arms all the way down with the rockshaft control lever 5. Visually check to see if the mid-linkage is entirely down, manually pull it down if necessary 6. Set the power take off (PTO) lever to “Rear PTO Only” to allow the mid PTO to turn freely and engage the mower gear case with minimal resistance 7. Line up the tractor to be square with the mower deck 8. Set the tractor to 4 wheel drive, low range transmission, and throttle medium high 9. With the outside of the left front tire aligned to the mower deck guide bar, slowly drive over the deck 10. Confirm that the (rear lock tab) or spring loaded silver bar is firmly locked, if not shimmy the deck slightly and manually lock the silver rod 11. Raise the mower deck all the way up with the rockshaft control lever 12. Set the mower cutting height by turning the knob to your preferred setting (1” to 4”) 13. Manually set gage wheel height on all four wheels to your preferred setting and lock 14. With PTO lever now set to “Mid-PTO” and the mower deck lowered, begin mowing by engaging the dashboard PTO switch To Remove The Mower Deck 1. Select a level location 2. Raise the mower deck all the way up with the (black) rockshaft control lever 3. This allows you to set the mower depth knob to the “install” setting 4. Manually disengage all four gage wheel locks on the mower wheels 5. Lower the deck all the way down with the rockshaft control lever 6. Manually release the (rear lock tab) or spring loaded silver bar located near the back of the mower under the tractor by flipping it down 7. Set the tractor to 4 wheel drive, low range transmission, and throttle at medium high 8. Slowly back up by aligning the the mower deck guide bar along the outside of the front left tire 9. Finally, raise the mid-linkage arms up with the rockshaft control lever
I am not sure if you have ever thought about the possibility of making a video on how to remove an autoconnect deck on a X700 series tractor, and installing a snowblower to the tractor. I am confused on what has to be locked up and what has to be taken off to install the blower this winter. Can you let me know if you are aware of a video on RUclips that shows this? Or, even better, if you could do a video on it? You do a great job of explaining things! Thanks in advance...
Hi Russ, I'm using an x739 on my lawn at home right now. I have a plow for it as well, but no snowblower. However, you will have to remove that AutoConnect linkage under the tractor in order to connect the long PTO shaft for the snowblower. It isn't exactly like the linkage shown in this video, but it is pretty similar.
@@GoodWorksTractors Thanks so much for the reply! If you are looking for a video to make, showing the proper way to level the mowing deck on your X739 would be awesome. I am sure that would be the same for my X758. I have the 20 bushel material collection system with the Powerflow that I am using this fall for leaf collection, but won't be using it for regular mowing next year. I am sure when you take the powerflow off, the deck will have to be re-leveled in order to cut correctly.
I’ve watched both the Deere drive over quick connect model and the Kubota 2680 which is not a drive over type quick connect. I do not see any advantage to the Deere drive over style, But did notice that the Kubota deck mounts more securely by design and if you don’t have a nice flat solid, level area to do this with the Deere could turn into a cursing event plus I hear over time being removed they tend to become even more troublesome, Yes you must get on your back to deal with the pto but it’s not bad and can be done just fine in the yard, I know which way I’m gonna swing on this deal, great video, thxs!
I didn't buy my last tractor with the mower under the unit and I did inquire about it on the 3032E tractor I got. I already had a separate zero turn mower which I had got from the dealer years earlier so I didn't need the one which goes under the tractor. You gave a good description of how to hook the mower up on that model tractor and remove it.
This is a good video - my question is ...I have the 1025R and I want to use my box blade with out worrying about lift the arms and unit underneath. You mention putting them in the lock position. How do you put it in the “lock up” position specifically...that isn’t described for us newbies . Thank you.
Hi, "lock" is simply the highest position on the deck height adjustment knob. So, pretend you wanted to cut your grass on the highest height, then go a notch above. From memory, I think there's a lock symbol on the dial.
I have one heck of a time flipping that rear bracket. Yours move quite easilly, but I have to pry on mine real hard and curse a bit. What is the problem? Putting the mower on is no problem, getting it off is a nightmare. What needs adjusting?
One thing I do before backing off is go forward jut enough to ensure the wheels are all straight on the mower deck. I’ve had them be turned slightly and the tire will catch them as your backing off.
I have a 1023e and that rear locking bracket on mine usually requires me to leverage a pry bar to pop it in the disconnect position. Not an easy hand only as I've seen in your video and others.
I deal only in used tractors and remove and reconnect many decks that have been on tractors for some time. I almost never have an issue. When I do, it's typically something I forgot to do.
@@GoodWorksTractors The first video you made clearly has scrape marks on the cement from the tractor pushing the deck and not engaging. Same problem I'm having from day one.
dtman66 you're welcome to come look at the concrete anytime. There's almost always scratches in that area as I take photos there constantly, many times shifting around additional attachments to make a good picture. If yours doesn't go on and off smoothly, then it wasn't setup properly and simply needs adjustment. Don't make petty comments.
Very nice instructional video. Just one question: Why oh why oh why are you raising the RPMs so incredibly high, just to climb over the mower deck? I've used my 1025r for six years now, and have never had to increase the RPMs over an idle to cross over the deck. Just curious.
I have searched for a video on how to fix the height adjustment dial on my 1025R, this is the second time it has locked up and JD came out the first time to fix when they had time. Do you have a video already?
Hi there just like to know I have a 1025r and the hydraulics lever on the side doesn’t drop the middle cupeling for the mower to attach? Would it be just a manual one ? In other words do they all come with hydraulics much appreciate a response in advance 😊
Good video. Very informative great pace. Really would like to see a video that shows how to reach collar on manual PTO shaft on the 1025R. There has got to be a trick.
Thank you. I still do not understand the settings of the 4 wheels on the deck. How are they to be set after attaching the deck? You unlock them, but set to what height?
Is there an adjustment that can be made to make the rear latches on the deck connect easier? I have a 2022 1025R with the 54D Auto Connect and it's nearly impossible for me to get the rear hooks attached. I have to yank on the deck with all I got to pull it far enough back to get it to latch. It has never latched on its own when driving over it.
Great video. I'm still learning after a year of owning my 1025R. My deck has never gone back on without a struggle. Also, why is my 4wd lever on the floor? I'd much prefer the position it is in on the 1023 that you show here.
I had to double check, because I was second guessing myself. You have a video comparing the 1025R to the 1023E. My 4wd shifter is like the 1025R in your video. It is not actually on the ground, but it is down low under your right knee when sitting on the tractor. Does anyone make a kit to relocate this to a more comfortable location?
@@GoodWorksTractors Great video.. I have a 2020 2025r with a height knob and no lock position, just 1 thru 5 and the remove position. Can u tell me which position is lock so that assembly doesn't lower when lowering rear 3 point? Once again, nice video.
This is the OLD (pre 2020?) mower deck mechanism. Do you have a video with the new deck connector setup? I can't get my deck to release, and it's sliding on my driveway and dragging along with the tractor. :(
@@GoodWorksTractors I got mine and the deck in the back was canted up and it didnt look normal and they adjusted it and it still seems like its up to high. What do I need to do to tell if the deck is correct now or if its still titled to much? Also thanks
@@GoodWorksTractors do you know if they ever made a kit that allows you to use the mowing deck and front end loader at the same time? Mine is a 2012 1026R and I have to unplug the mowing deck hydraulic and then plug in the front end loader hydraulic line to be able to use the front end loader
Nice video. It appears that the AutoConnect is not too difficult to remove for snow thrower attachment which is good. Yesterday I ordered an x754 all wheel steer, 2WD with AutoConnect. The salesman recommended the AutoConnect, but was not certain as to how well it works with 2WD. Can you comment on this. My previous JD tractor had a manual connect which was not too difficult so I am wondering whether this system is worth it.
Also, I have the button on left side of tractor to raise my mower deck. However, it will not stay up unless you keep pressing the button. Is that normal?
The commercials lead you to believe you just drive on and drive off and never leave the seat. Somehow I figured there was way more to it than that. Still it's a nice convienince to be able to do that
Your right front mower deck wheel is 180 degrees from mine. All my wheels bolt brackets are angled backwards your right front goes forward. I think that may be incorrect. Either yours or mine is wrong.
Yep, good eye. I rotated that around before I delivered to my customer. The rear casters can only practically be installed in one way, but not so for the fronts.
So a not to funny story. I received my 1025R to Ontario and the guy explained all the controls and after watching many instructional videos I thought it would be a cake walk. We have six acres and I bought an RC2048 to cut down the overgrowth and after that the plan was to use the mid mount 60" mower. So I remove the mower no problem and after a couple of days I go to put the mower back on and the auto connect is not operating so I'm muscling it on and cut the lower part of what the Rotary Cutter left figuring it was my fault why the deck wasn't connecting. So I live in Rome Italy and had to head back so I called the dealer and explained the issue and told him I would be back in a few months and have hime pick it up to see why the Auto Connect wasn't functioning and sent pictures of the whole assembly. After I got it back the guy I ordered it with told me they fired the mechanic because he failed to secure the drop down assembly arm that kept it on, so it just hung on the drop bar. All this story to say, I wish I had the video you showed that gives a visual of the whole undercarriage.
@@GoodWorksTractors why waste the fuel. And in after running my 1025 for almost 5 years now. I would still bet I can go slower at idle. Good video otherwise.
Happy Friday! I have to say, the first few times that I removed and reinstalled I tried it on my grass, totally tore it up. I highly recommend load and go brackets too.
the steps are easy to follow, but does not apply to my 1025r for some reason, when installed, my deck is too far down in front to cut correctly, to raise the front of the deck, it needs to adjust the large nuts at the front bars to raise the front of the deck, which basically locks the deck tight and its impossible to release the two latches at the back , and its impossible to remove the deck, what is wrong?
I've noticed in many of your videos you run the motor almost wide open. I was shocked to see you do that here. Why do you run the motor so fast. The other example that comes to mind is when you were installing the loader

To install the mower deck:
1. Have the mower deck on a level surface with the wheels disengaged (If it is on a slick cement floor place a small car floor mat under each side of the deck for additional traction.)
2. Raise the mid-linkage arms up with the (black) rockshaft control lever

10. Confirm that the (rear lock tab) or spring loaded silver bar is firmly locked, if not shimmy the deck slightly and manually lock the silver rod
11. Raise the mower deck all the way up with the rockshaft control lever
12. Set the mower cutting height by turning the knob to your preferred setting (1” to 4”)
13. Manually set gage wheel height on all four wheels to your preferred setting and lock
14. With PTO lever now set to “Mid-PTO” and the mower deck lowered, begin mowing by engaging the dashboard PTO switch
To Remove The Mower Deck
1. Select a level location
2. Raise the mower deck all the way up with the (black) rockshaft control lever
3. This allows you to set the mower depth knob to the “install” setting
4. Manually disengage all four gage wheel locks on the mower wheels
5. Lower the deck all the way down with the rockshaft control lever
6. Manually release the (rear lock tab) or spring loaded silver bar located near the back of the mower under the tractor by flipping it down
7. Set the tractor to 4 wheel drive, low range transmission, and throttle at medium high
8. Slowly back up by aligning the the mower deck guide bar along the outside of the front left tire
9. Finally, raise the mid-linkage arms up with the rockshaft control lever

Where can I buy that green brush guard you have?
I have a new x738
how do you lower the linkage arm?
Can I order a new pin on the front hanger on mower deck? I screwed up the threads when I tried to push mower deck against a wall to clean underneath?
Is there an adjustment that can be made to make the rear latches on the deck connect easier? I have a 2022 1025R with the 54D Auto Connect and it's nearly impossible for me to get the rear hooks attached. I have to yank on the deck with all I got to pull it far enough back to get it to latch. It has never latched on its own when driving over it.
Great video. I'm still learning after a year of owning my 1025R. My deck has never gone back on without a struggle. Also, why is my 4wd lever on the floor? I'd much prefer the position it is in on the 1023 that you show here.
Thanks for watching, but not sure why your lever is located there?
I had to double check, because I was second guessing myself. You have a video comparing the 1025R to the 1023E. My 4wd shifter is like the 1025R in your video. It is not actually on the ground, but it is down low under your right knee when sitting on the tractor. Does anyone make a kit to relocate this to a more comfortable location?
No, unfortunately that's it. Not a very convenient location.
@@GoodWorksTractors Great video.. I have a 2020 2025r with a height knob and no lock position, just 1 thru 5 and the remove position. Can u tell me which position is lock so that assembly doesn't lower when lowering rear 3 point? Once again, nice video.
Would you skip the belly mower and just go with a flail mower on the back? Advantages of ease of attaching mid vs. rear.
Belly mower is for finish mowing on a regular basis. Flail mower is for mowing a field a couple times a year.
Are there supposed to be the locking pins on each deck wheel? Mine has none and it’s a 1025R. I see yours has them in the back.
This is the OLD (pre 2020?) mower deck mechanism. Do you have a video with the new deck connector setup? I can't get my deck to release, and it's sliding on my driveway and dragging along with the tractor. :(
is the deck suppose to be tilted up in the back slightly? or completely even front to back?
Back should be slightly higher than the front.
@@GoodWorksTractors I got mine and the deck in the back was canted up and it didnt look normal and they adjusted it and it still seems like its up to high. What do I need to do to tell if the deck is correct now or if its still titled to much?
Also thanks
There will either be stickers on your deck that give this instruction or it'll be in your mower manual. I don't recall specifics right now.
@@GoodWorksTractors ill see if i can find the manual online
@@GoodWorksTractors do you know if they ever made a kit that allows you to use the mowing deck and front end loader at the same time? Mine is a 2012 1026R and I have to unplug the mowing deck hydraulic and then plug in the front end loader hydraulic line to be able to use the front end loader
Good job thanks
I noticed the water hose connection for cleaning the deck. Is this recommended ??
Much better. This feature has caused the most friction & disappointment. Not JD engineered, right?
Big thumbs up, thanks !
Thanks for the visit!
Will either size mower deck auto mount? 54 or 60d
My previous JD tractor had a manual connect which was not too difficult so I am wondering whether this system is worth it.
any idea where to get replacement actuator , for 2032r
Hello .... Good Morning !
Morning Mark, might be a short day with this rain coming.
@@GoodWorksTractors Yes. Equipment Maintenance Day. I have been needing one of those.
Thanks for this
Thanks for watching!
Also, I have the button on left side of tractor to raise my mower deck. However, it will not stay up unless you keep pressing the button. Is that normal?
Rose knows best!
Always forget to put the height adjustment the the highest after taken deck off. So I drive around with the assembly hanging down.
Haha, it's easy to forget about!
How do you keep the mower deck from sliding on the concrete?
Can you do a snowblower install?
The commercials lead you to believe you just drive on and drive off and never leave the seat. Somehow I figured there was way more to it than that. Still it's a nice convienince to be able to do that
Yeah, even with the bit of off seat time, it's still significantly better than anything else I've used.
Thank you
Your right front mower deck wheel is 180 degrees from mine. All my wheels bolt brackets are angled backwards your right front goes forward. I think that may be incorrect. Either yours or mine is wrong.
Yep, good eye. I rotated that around before I delivered to my customer. The rear casters can only practically be installed in one way, but not so for the fronts.
Level is good but if smooth it can skid! A rough level surface is best.
How do you keep the deck from sliding?
I didn’t even know you could operate the mower lift from the loader joystick. What’s the purpose of it?
It's so that you can operate the three point hitch and mower deck raise/lower independently.
Wow, that's really bad. Sounds like it should all have been covered under warranty at least?
I leave the engine at idle because you want to go as slow as possible when backing off and driving on. It sounded like you went full throttle.
You can go just as slow at full throttle as you can at idle. Just depends how hard you depress the pedals.
@@GoodWorksTractors why waste the fuel. And in after running my 1025 for almost 5 years now. I would still bet I can go slower at idle. Good video otherwise.
😂👍
No more solid bar across the back. Two little rocking levers.
Happy Friday! I have to say, the first few times that I removed and reinstalled I tried it on my grass, totally tore it up. I highly recommend load and go brackets too.
Same to you man!
Did u find work ??
the steps are easy to follow, but does not apply to my 1025r for some reason, when installed, my deck is too far down in front to cut correctly, to raise the front of the deck, it needs to adjust the large nuts at the front bars to raise the front of the deck, which basically locks the deck tight and its impossible to release the two latches at the back , and its impossible to remove the deck, what is wrong?
Rosie said not impressed as she walks away😎
Haha yeah she sets the bar pretty high
When I try this, the knob you are using only raises and lowers the loader
Basically if you don’t have a concrete pad. Don’t buy one of these pieces of garbage. I learned the hard way…
I've noticed in many of your videos you run the motor almost wide open. I was shocked to see you do that here. Why do you run the motor so fast. The other example that comes to mind is when you were installing the loader
Hydraulics
@@GoodWorksTractors really?? You have to run them a little faster to make the hydraulics work well?
simple
:)
