      Hi Keith, thanks so much - I do dream of those temperatures and sitting by an open fire, but I'm glad this gave you a little respite. Lots more to come and I can't wait to share the jungle pond build, aided wonderfully by the local people who all said they were going to replicate more ponds for wildlife in their villages :) I really appreciate your encouragement, best wishes - Joel

So glad that you enjoyed this, lots of wildlife and the pond build etc to come - it is indeed a birder's paradise, still can't quite believe the birds that I saw at Bocas del Mar flying free and of course the dedication to rehabilitate those birds that were destined for trafficking, soon they will be having the same freedom as the others, and it really is paradise. Really looking forward to this Panama series❤
    The colour of these waters are so breath taking and that Tucan of course to😍
    I wanted to ask you a few questions in regards to bird boxes for house sparrows.
    What are ideal measurements and what if you have a west facing wall as almost the only option?
    I would like to design and build a few sparrow boxes myself, since a female was looking for one in that spot near our bathroom window last spring.
    Because of the location I would like to face the entrance to the north, with maybe a small protruding bit inside against draft.
    And an extra wooden sunshield against the south facing sun.
    Any suggestions on how to design this?

    • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
      @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton  4 месяца назад

      Hi there Titia, good to hear from you. As always, just trying to catch up with everyone. I have uploaded a video on how to make a blue-tit box, it will be the same method and measurements EXCEPT you need to ensure the hole for sparrows is around 32mm.
      ruclips.net/video/eMXZ5YIuYD8/видео.html
      It's not recommended for a south facing wall as the box can become too hot and the chicks die from the heat but if there is a way of sheltering it from the heat then it should be ok, just always think about how hot it might get. Best wishes, Joel

    • @titiaswildlifecottagegarden
      @titiaswildlifecottagegarden 4 месяца назад +1

      @@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton hi Joel, thank you for the reply 🙏🏻 I will watch the video. Our wall is west facing, but one side will be south facing. I would like to make a shield around the box to protect it from the southern facing sun. The property next to our house has tall trees, so I'm not that concerned for western sun exposure for that long. I'm sure I will come up with a solution.

      Hi Esther! The mileage is door to door and one of the reasons we didn't take the additional internal flight once in Panama, there's no trains that go to this island so chose the 9 hour drive instead of the additional flight. This wasn't a vacation with a lack of thought, this was to create a vital wildlife pond in Panama at an Eco Lodge and I hope that every effort I put into this channel helps our natural world all over by helping others - but sometimes, as we say here "you can't make an omelette without cracking an egg" :) Hope you and yours are doing well - best wishes, Joel
