    • @TheWildlifeHomestead
      @TheWildlifeHomestead  Год назад +82

      @@G4lacta If you have feeders and they visit, it’ll be much easier. If you wait until the feeder is empty and stand beside it with seed in your hand, that is one of the better techniques. It could take some time, but try not to move too much and they’ll feel more comfortable coming down to inspect. If they’re really skittish, you may need to play the long game and put a pile of seeds out, and over time move it closer and closer to you until they feel safe enough to land.

    Our ponds are not nearly as big as yours but we’ve learned to attract more bird diversity by adding vegetation along the edges. Willows especially. This year, we have nesting Green Herons in a pond slightly larger than a two car garage. It’s a species that is not especially common here at 2000’ in the NC mountains. Shoreline is 80% trees and shrubs. Wouldn’t make photography any easier though!

    Hello!
    Something being done in my country to attract mitigratory birds to small lakes/ponds is small man-made islands in the middle of them, with a few sticks or perches and clear/low foliage so the birds can land and rest without fear of predators. This made a eagle couple meet and make nest at a local lake a few years back, and they return now.

      That’s awesome! I’d love to do something like that

    • @Blasharga
      @Blasharga Год назад

      @@TheWildlifeHomestead In my country we call them "bird-islands", haha. I guess there are several ways to go about it, either with large rocks in the middle of your pond and fill in with gravel/sand or a floating platform anchored to the bottom. This will especially attract geese and ducks.
      Seen from above, i guess its quite clear when a lake, pond or large river has a "safespot" to land and relax for a bird. Altho i dont think your ponds are large enough to support the largest eagles.
      I still remember the joy of going on a walks at that local lake back in the day, and watching these huge white-tailed eagles hunting, flying and (awkwardly) landing.

    What an amazing video. its all such high quality. I loved the timing of throwing the fish food and saying you didnt think there'd be any and then they all pop up to eat.
