I randomly stumbled upon your channel yesterday and all I can say is THANK GOD for the RUclips algorithm because I have SO enjoyed watching your videos. Not only are the videography and editing on point, but the content itself is just wonderful. My dream is to own land such as yours and perhaps do some rewilding, it's inspiring to see people doing the type of things you are. Keep it up 😌
Our ponds are not nearly as big as yours but we’ve learned to attract more bird diversity by adding vegetation along the edges. Willows especially. This year, we have nesting Green Herons in a pond slightly larger than a two car garage. It’s a species that is not especially common here at 2000’ in the NC mountains. Shoreline is 80% trees and shrubs. Wouldn’t make photography any easier though!
Those winter tadpoles are ginormous! I'm so glad you made this video because ever since i saw those ponds frozen over ive been wondering what was in them.
Thank you again Steffano. I’m a professional, trapper, a birder and wildlife educator and I wait for every one of your updates. As a professional trapper who experiences both of the good and the bad side of habitat, on a daily basis, I have to say, I am amazed and commend you on how well and how thoughtfully you’re approaching the management of that patch in Quebec that you share with all the critters. Your thoughtful approach is so important and I wish more people did that I have seen far too many failures and habitat and wildlife conflicts so please keep up the good work. Keep sharing your photos and video since I’m a hobby photographer and I’m amazed at some of the footage you get! And greetings from just south of you a short skip!

Did you know the weight/ biomass from Eastern Red-backed salamanders on the forest floor is more than all other vertebrate life in the forest combined, they’re everywhere
What a great video! A little bit of amphibian education, warbler migration (jealous), and even some fishing! Looks like you have an amazing property, Stefano. I'm really happy for you!

This made a eagle couple meet and make nest at a local lake a few years back, and they return now.
@@TheWildlifeHomestead In my country we call them "bird-islands", haha. I guess there are several ways to go about it, either with large rocks in the middle of your pond and fill in with gravel/sand or a floating platform anchored to the bottom. This will especially attract geese and ducks. Seen from above, i guess its quite clear when a lake, pond or large river has a "safespot" to land and relax for a bird. Altho i dont think your ponds are large enough to support the largest eagles. I still remember the joy of going on a walks at that local lake back in the day, and watching these huge white-tailed eagles hunting, flying and (awkwardly) landing.
Great video as always! If you want to attract even more migrating warblers, try putting in a small and shallow stream. It can just be recirculating with a pump next to one of the ponds. They love the sound of running water.
Thank you! That's for sure on my to-do list! The ponds are great, but a bit too deep for them to comfortably bathe in them. Also they don't have the sound of running water, so a small pump/stream would be great.
