Can we all please recognise that this girl is a full time student, is financially independent, works HOURS every week at her other jobs and STILL puts out regular quality content on her successful youtube channel! Well done Rachel!!! You are the sort of person that young people should be looking up to online!
Her list 1.pencil case 2.paper mate ink joy black/blue/red pens 3.white out/correction tape 4.Stabilo boss highlighters 5.sticky notes 6.3 ring binder 7.binder dividers 8.lined paper 9.plastic sleeves 10.1 subject book for four subjects 11.display folder 12.planner/calendar/bullet journal 13.index cards
Ok so I got touched when she said not to use highlighters because they are not effective as a study method. Umm... If I don't colour code my notes and study from the colour coded ones I. Will. Not. Remember. Them. Honestly highlighters are a MUST for me when I study.
I didn’t know flash cards worked that well for some people. I can’t use them because I find I just end up memorizing the answers instead of actually understanding the concept and being able to apply it to tons of different questions
Ella N I used to do that but now I try to use them once I understand the whole concept. Another thing that helps is if you ask questions like “how does affect the people” or “when does this method work better and why”. Long questions with key words at the back so that you have to formulate the answer yourself. And if that doesn’t work, just use them for things like memorizing names and dates and equations etc ya know 🙃
Same! I use quizlet online flashcards and they shuffle, they have you write in the answers and you can add or erase or rephrase without wasting paper. You can go take a test on it anytime and it's a little bit better than regular old index cards.
I always used (digital) flashcards to help me remember vocab words in language classes as you do need to memorize them but for other things they also aren’t helpful for me
Ella N Flashcards aren’t for questions and answers. It’s often used for simply memorizing descriptions and formulas. I also use them for my History class where I have to memorize dates and important people.
about the highlighters: it has been found that visual representation (e.g. images, colours. symbols) actually helps a lot with memory and categorising information. the brain processes colours and images easier than written information, and even writing on coloured paper helps you remember the information better (ikr, weird). i realised this may sound rly rude, but i just wanted to know your proof behind it!
Definitely depends on the type of learner you are! For me highlighting and colour coding is the most effective study method for my creative mind and helped me get my degree 🙌
It also depends on what your learning style is. If you're more visual then colors help but if you're not then it doesn't really matter although research actually does show that it helps retain information better. Colors are partly why some ads are more memorable.
I don't think she's referring to the color coding. That definitely helps. I think she means that highlighting things in your notes/textbooks isn't the best study method because you don't really retain the information. You're just slapping a colored bar over a sentence and saying "I studied"
Uni is so different to high school and nobody cares what you're wearing. If it's hot I'm usually in denim shorts and a t shirt and during winter I'm wearing trackies/comfy jeans and a t shirt most days. I usually bring a hoodie as well just because it gets pretty cold in lectures. Obviously if I'm meeting up with friends afterwards or something I'd dress it up but just be comfortable. I've seen kids in pajamas and uggs, we're all in the same boat so nobody is judging :) I'm at UTS in Sydney by the way.
wow the binder thing I’m definitely going to use. it’s so smart to write the notes in a notebook at school then come home and rewrite them (which would help refresh to info in my mind) and then keep it in a binder as your own personal textbook! very cool. it’s probably really easy to study using it as well
i am going into my first year of uni EVER and this video made it so much easier to know what to buy and to not over exaggerate or overspend. Thank you so much rach!!
I just stumbled on your channel, and these are my thoughts (all good things): 1. Bible verse at the start 2. Australian 3. A really good video in general 4. FINALLY someone who doesn't buy everything new every year!!!! Love this video, and will definitely be sticking around!
Everyone on youtube: I bought these because they make me seem aesthetic and they're just so cute Rachel: I bought it because it was like 1 dollar. And it's more practical
I think its related to the studies which show studying using 'active recall' is by far more efficient than the regular highlight and read method for studying
Because you feel like you did some work, but learned nothing. And it correlates with the fact, that re-reading the pages appears to be the worst thing you can do. You think you understand the topic, because you recognize the text, but can't actually use or explain ist. Funny enough, flash cards have the same problem, at least if it's not history or something, where you have to remember al the dates. To really learn something you need to understand it and be able to explain it to others. But that's just what science says. You can easyly google the studies. I myself have all 15 fdifferent stabilo highlighter, 15 zebra mildliner, 10 more on the way, and flash cards in 5 colors and 3 sizes :D So according to science, I do everything wrong.
I've been watching so many preparing for uni and taking notes at uni videos and I have to say I absolutely love you're "no fuss" approach. I'm looking forward starting my first year in just over a month now and really fortunate to have found your videos!
I first found your channel by watching your uni videos last year as I was starting my first year and was really anxious and didn't know what to expect! your videos were really helpful so I'm excited to watch the series again to prepare myself for my second year 💕
so i am really sick today and had an allergy attach which did not help. but coming onto my phone and seeing this notification made my heart full and my day a little better! thankyou rachel!
Heyyy Rachel!!! Do you have any tips in mind for students starting yr 12, what worked for you when you were studying for hsc exams, like what ur set up for notes were, how to stay productive etc. Love you lots!!! From Sydney
could you please do a video on how you knew you wanted to study psychology and become an psychologist etc. and all about studying psychology in Australia. I am also thinking about studying psychology when I start Uni soon xxoxoxo
Love the concept of this video! As a college student myself, I find it really important that people stay honest and show what they actually use, instead of just promoting consumerism
just finished my first week, so far my method is typing notes during the day at uni and rewriting everything into a five subject book at home so everything is organised. hope it works lol
Girl these videos are making me feel sooo much better. I’m starting my first year of Uni in Feb, doing a Health Sciences Bachelor degree. Not sure what I wanna do yet so thought I’d choose something broad. But thank you for these vids, I feel more relaxed. ☺️
I loved this haul because it kind of gave me a clear picture of what supplies would be worth spending money on. I feel like every year I have a habit of splurging out on school supplies that I never end up touching.
thanks for this! in my first semester i attempted to hand write every word in all my lectures (didn’t succeed). then in second semester i did notes on my laptop and in like week 8 (out of 12) i started to hand write all specific notes and i ran out of time. this year i’m going to 3 days instead of 2 so now i only have 2 days off so your writing techniques sound like a great idea! i memorise well by rewriting notes
I have a photographic memory and I have found that highlighters actually do help me remember content and I get better grades when I study with colours xx
Quizlet Plus has honestly been my saving grace throughout college- just online flashcards that you can look at on your phone or computer. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
The one product that I absolutely swear by is colorhide zipper binders. They’re $5 or $10 each depending on the size and in them I can put my textbook, spare paper, workbook and often things like grid paper and loose leaf. Also for high school students: I use desk drawers for my locker and it’s amazing! Helps keep everything clean. Last thing, I only use pencilcases with seperate sections and pockets to keep me organised. (Also those are my favorite pens as well)
this was so helpful, i’m a freshman going into college now and a lot of other people seemed like their back to school videos were just for views and the trend. thank you so much

just saw this and a reallly life saver, loved the way that this is realistic and thank you for the tips and for explaining what is the things for💛 this is reaally helpful and also continue to help people, nice video and wish u all da best💛
loved this!! im starting uni this year and just recently binge watched your last years' series and it was so helpful, i can't wait for this years. could you please make a 'what to wear to uni' because i feel like the transition to high school, where you're wearing a uniform, is so different to university, where you could wear anything you want if you've got any apps/websites that you use while studying, that would be really helpful too!
Please do a video on effective ways too study, and how you study!! Starting uni next month and don’t understand how too pick what notes too write in Lectures!!
Yes, i'd really like to see some 'the best study methods' video, I think this series is so helpful and i looove it ... Also Rach this bun really suits you, you are so beautiful!! 💛
I really like the blank jumbo flash cards but they are so hard to find and crazy expensive. I just cut a sheet of A4 printer paper in half on the long side and its perfect. If needed, i make them stronger by sticking them to an old cereal box or something similar. My brother likes the smaller flash cards so he cuts his paper into sixths
I've been watching your channel for a few years now (I've never missed a video) and we are literally so similar it's crazy! This video has just motivated me to start my school work I've put off all holidays what even is year 12
Can we all please recognise that this girl is a full time student, is financially independent, works HOURS every week at her other jobs and STILL puts out regular quality content on her successful youtube channel! This could literally be my school supply list for my upcoming school year
Don’t forget the stapler !
I did this when I was motivated and now I’m sitting here going through my school supplies from last year because I don’t want to waste
Thanks!
Thanks ! ☺️☺️

Oriana Nicole saaame I honestly feel like good studying methods are different to each person
Oriana Nicole it’s different for some people. but when you highlight almost every word in the text, that’s when it doesn’t become effective anymore
@@drizzytinaa1355 yeah for sure, people who highlight a whole paragraph are not doing it right 😅
Yeah it depends on the person really. Some people study by writing, some people study by flashcards, and some study by using colours.
Same here! I just don't remember or stayed interested without colour
I didn’t know flash cards worked that well for some people. I can’t use them because I find I just end up memorizing the answers instead of actually understanding the concept and being able to apply it to tons of different questions

I love how she doesn’t buy all those expensive things but the Kmart version
RIP kmart

Please talk about why highlighters are not a good method, super interested now ❤️
Yes, I would love to know as well!
I think its related to the studies which show studying using 'active recall' is by far more efficient than the regular highlight and read method for studying

I absolutely love officeworks 😂 I just got home from shopping there for back to school
I’m going there tomorrow, I get so hyped when I’m going lmao I’ll leave the store with three full bags of shopping and a sausage sizzle😂😂
Love the idea of re-taking notes when you get home, will definitely be doing that this year, even more so since it'll be my first year of uni!
starting uni this year, this honestly helps me SO MUCH, thank you for finally making me organised xxx

I love the stabilo highlighters as well! I’ve had my six pack since grade 5 and am now going into grade 12!!!

Oh my goodness, we are the same person!! I have two weekly planners, a monthly planner and a desk calendar 😂 you can never be too organized
Also Target has really great multi subject books! They have 2-5 subjects and they aren’t bulky at all
I really like the blank jumbo flash cards but they are so hard to find and crazy expensive. I just cut a sheet of A4 printer paper in half on the long side and its perfect. If needed, i make them stronger by sticking them to an old cereal box or something similar. My brother likes the smaller flash cards so he cuts his paper into sixths
I’m finally watching your uni prep vids in the time that it actually applies to me
Thank you for telling what's realistic instead of having supplies for aesthetics only.
We should appreciate her putting a quote in the starting of every video ❤️
I've been watching your channel for a few years now (I've never missed a video) and we are literally so similar it's crazy! This video has just motivated me to start my school work I've put off all holidays what even is year 12
Thank you for the helpful advise! On my way to buy uni supplies :)
I’m a psych student to and highlighters work just fine for me
Can u do a video about how to use a planner and like how u plan uni stuff if that makes sense? Thank u💜
