Twitter can be so cruel. I was fighting with the nu-ra stans about how bullying is wrong and what they did to that artist was terrible. Then one person said they wished we'd been miscarried because they were tired of us arguing with them. It was insane!
I have to say, reading through that thread was making me physically sick to look at. All of that over a drawing and stuff. It got to the point that seeing that redesigns by Ashlyn S. kind of made me cry for how amazing and elegant it was. I want see THAT as a reboot, I want figure skater Frosta to be a real thing. I wish you and your sister the best as well, you guys don't deserve this crap and neither does the artist.
As a young artist, I hope she is okay because she is just a child and there's a possibility that she is hurt by this. And also I can't believe young adults are harassing a child how pathetic can they be.

Here's an advice ... Don't listen to critics and fans. If you're an artist just do what you want don't care whether people hate it or not. Don't listen to both positive and negative comments.
Imagine literally wishing a child would die because they painted a character a color you don't like. Basically, now that the new show exists, you aren't allowed to like the original. If you do you're racist because the OG was "too white" and the new one is now "proper".

I live in a seaside town so we have many fishermen here have skin color of iron because of the time they spent under the sun. So i don't understand why peoples react so strongly when someone has black skin even though they're not native Africans.

I went on twitter for the first time this year just to look up the She-ra stuff and the first thing I see are an overwhelming number of ship art, characters embracing/making out, mentions of positive sexual tension, and characters drawn in suggestive clothing. *And they complain original She-ra was sexualized?*
Which is creepy since they de-aged most of the characters, and it's usually almost always the people claiming to be LGBTQ+ that make the art that sexualises those underage characters.

I feel the same way; I love the reboot (though I've never seen the original for various reasons), but to claim that drawing the 80's character is whitewashing is really dumb? Especially considering the difference with the body types and outfits of the characters; it would be really difficult to mistake one for the other.

I still like the original She-Ra show characters. Personal preference. SheRa and Wonder Woman were some of the inspirations for so many strong female characters in media.
I don't see anyone complaining about making Goku White or making the girl from Ghost in the Shell which was Asian White or making the Queen of Egypt white or making Jesus Christ White are all the black things that were whitewashed after the Reconquista

As far as Ghost in A Shell goes, the anime clearly shows that Major and other characters with cybernetics can be in any body type, sex, race that they want. At first, I didn’t want Scarlett to play the role for the reason you stated, but when I looked back at the actual show and movie, it’s not a big deal. The movie was good and she sort of looked like the character in the end. Everyone hated Goku being white as well that movie being absolutely terrible (Dragonball Evolution). From a historical standpoint, the queens of Egypt had different skin tones and different ethnicities have ruled over Egypt. Moving forward, if they showed more shades, that would be great. The American movie industry is not the only industry making films about Egyptian royalty. Go branch out and watch those. They are quite entertaining. 👍🏾 You can’t be mad about whitewashing but say nothing about established white characters being swapped for black characters. This is seen as sloppy seconds. Why can’t they make brand new black characters or develop established black characters who get put at the back of the line? Whenever I’m feeling down, I remember that there are people so twisted in this world that they harass and wish ill on young artists because of the skin color of fictional characters. I lose a little faith in the world, but at least I’m not that awful.

But isn't there a difference between including more diversity and white washing? Just to be clear no She-Ra didn't get white washed it was mainly white in the fist She-Ra. I know that. That's a discussion about if former white people should be get divers backgrounds and looks even so a former version was white or if this is simular or at the same level as white washing. White washing would be people who are supposed to be divers, including Asians, Africans, Natives etc., being casted or drawn as white people. While the "black washing" often effects people in a fantasy setting. E.g. the planet of the show She-Ra, mermaids, because there are so dam much different kinds of fish, or other universes and planets etc.. Making people of different colors in a scenario in which e.g. real cultur and/or countries don't play a role in order to have more relatedbale characters does make sense in my opinion. But I think it's getting worth discussing when they replace a former white character. Is it really that bad when we still have a lot of white characters and e.g. in She-Ra they even changed most of the characters? While white washing affects people of color of an actual real country and/or culture (see e.g. if Diana from prinzess of the froge or Egyptian, Indiana and Asian people in Hollywood are played by or were be replaced by white people). In She-Ra there is no established culture that has been replaced. The old She-Ra characters looked really alike because than it was easier to make toys from them and divers characters in shows were still rare. Now it's easier to make them divers and there is no actual reason why not to do it because it's not erasing any cultur or "takes jobs" away from people who have it hard in the media. Here is no harm done but there is a question what makes white washing harmful and at what point is it no white washing anymore. E.g. Let's say She-Ra gets a 3rd reboot or maybe a next generation thing. The amount of divers people stays the same but two characters or two children of the main character have different skin colors and a character with a former dark skin from the first reboot now has white skin and another one who had white skinnow has black skin. Is it wrong that the one character has been "turned" white? I would say no that wouldn't be wrong, because we still have the same set of diversity, so still a everyone has a character they can relate to and because that it is on an alien planet their skin color never played an important role. So where do we put the line when white washing because problematic and when diversity or how you called it "black washing" can become a problem. Because up to this point most "black washing" has either been explained or the skin color didn't play a role in the univers or country they were set in and only brought more people who enjoy the shows in. What kind of stories can only "realistically" been played by white people? When would it take away anything from the character when they weren't white? I think when we figured that out that would be the point in which "black-washing" wouldn't be right and a person should stay white. But I don't see that problem in She-Ra. Still people shouldn't claim that this young artist is white washing when she clearly takes the first She-Ra as an inspiration. Diversity isn't an excuse for cancel culture especially when it is a shield and especially when they make uneducated guesses and don't listen when people correct them. @@Kino_Cartoon Hi I agree with most of your points here, I also think that adding diversity in a reboot where most OG characters were white, when it doesn't go against the established lore etc is, inherently a good thing, and not "blackwashing". This term is quite absurd to me to be honest because whitewashing is associated with the idea of the oppression and lack of representation of POC and so blackwhashing just doesn't make much sense at least to me. Though there are instances where a more racially diverse cast goes against some worldbuilding elements from the original material. I recall this in the Witcher fandom, about some character design changing in the series from their portrayal in the books. And i don't think there's a right answer there either, though an argument against adding too much diversity can still be made, from certain characters at least but i still find the representation useful, especially since the original books sported a very white cast. To sum up, i would only argue against adding diversity if it went directly against previously established elements that do play a part in the actual story. (For any Witcher fans reading this i'd argue that Fringilla being black is kind of weird but the only issue with, say Triss' actress is her age) Althrough, obviously bullying a child is always wrong and the people who did this without even checking the context of her art are despicable and should apologize and be ashamed of their actions
Too bad they just couldn't create new, diverse characters for the reboot. Sideline the most of the original characters, except for the main, and just create new characters. Considering that the reboot was not beloved by old-time fans, nothing of value would have been lost.

@@JuanGomez-ke5py Personally, I respect the original for being the original, but I've watched some clips of the original and I'm not a huge fan of the animation and the general look of the show, and some of the voices (particularly Catra's) are really hard for me to listen to (doesn't help that I can barely hear Catra as well due to the high pitch... being deaf is fun). I like the reboot, and it's fine to like or dislike the reboot or the original, but some of the things I'm seeing in general, a little bit on this comment section (comments like "The reboot needs to be completely wiped from existence" and such) and elsewhere complaining about the show just like...existing, which just doesn't make sense to me; all art has some significance, even bad art. You can learn as much from bad art as you can from good art (not that I think either She-Ra is necessarily bad). You'll learn different things, sure, but you're learning nonetheless.
Can we all take a moment to realize this is a young girl artist most likely in her teens aka the “target audience”, the “this shows not made for you but for her” of New-ra would rather watch and make fan art of the original show then the new one. That is fucking amazing
Elio I actually knew about Shera and He man before the 'reboot' or something of Shera came out. Mainly thanks to my parents but I didn't exactly live in the most advanced places, back in México, but of course had a good life, so I got stuck with some original shows and movies. He man was one of them and as I came around and got older, I learned about shera and other shows.ni wasn't an expert of course, since I didn't exactly get to watch the eps and stuff but I knew of them.

The only thing in it I'd recommend is Catra because she's the one good thing in the show. Had some issues with her redemption but overall a really great character. It feels like the writers accidentally put all their good writing into her and forgot about everything else. The rest of the show isn't bad just boring and uninteresting. The other characters are boring, bland, or annoying and are almost never funny (besides Mermista) but that's really about it. Nothing in the show makes me mad (though I've never seen the original series so keep that in mind) the only thing that makes me mad is the fans being so toxic but that's to be expected.

Original White Nick Fury has been pretty much scrubbed even from modern Marvel to make room for a more Samuel Jackson inspired one and any Marvel media that brings old school Fury back would be lynched at this point. I’d say it’s more like casting a black actor to play Fury in the Marvel movies when he was originally a white character, rather than any kind of statement about white characters being in some way not worthy of being depicted. They were working with what they had with She-ra, and when they were recreating the character, they changed the color of her skin. It’s not racism to want a more diverse cast, especially from the point of view of intentional character design. It makes the characters appearances more distinct.

You'd be surprised how many don't know it's redesigned from an 80s series and that these are the only designs they know. In a similar vein you will likely not believe how many times I have had to explain Devilman Crybaby wasn't new and is a remake of a series from 1972 (typically in response to not being phased by the ending, because I've seen it 4 or 5 times already with how many times Devilman's been adapted and referenced); or that Gurren Lagann has no original ideas and was instead a giant love letter to Ken Ishikawa's Getter Robo- to be met with responses that they had never heard of those. Tons of people these days literally only know of Captain Marvel as a woman via Carol Danvers and do not know she's the 7th to carry the name- they never heard of Mar-Vell nor Monica Rambeau even though they held the name about 14 years EACH; they never seen the original Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos and only know of Ultimate/MCU Nick, even though he's been in arcade games and whatnot. Not defending their behavior mind you, nothing about what is being shown in those screencaps is appropriate, but way more people than one would expect assume what they know is the original and respond with such a mindset

Both tumblr and twitter scares me exactly for this reason: if you dare to draw a character in the "wrong" way you get immediately attacked and send death threats even if you are just a minor. I know how bad the internet can mess you up and I hope the harrassed artist is doing alright. Fandoms are supposed to be fun spaces where fans can interact with each other over their love for the series (in this case) not to get literally told to kill yourself because you "whitewashed" a character.
This is disgusting and asinine. First off, harassing a minor is *never* okay. Secondly, if the original character was white, then it's not whitewashing; this isn't like _Arrow_ casting white people to play Sin or Brick, who are respectively Asian and African-American in the comics. On a not-as-serious note, ranting Geeky is one of the main reasons I subscribed to this channel.

There has to be some irony in the people who declare themselves the most open and diverse are also the most intolerable people. I want people to know that even the Jem differences between the comics and the original show aren't met with this much ire, especially considering that Sophie didn't technically race bend Jetta but drew her as Christie had planned given Jetta WAS supposed to be Black but Hasbro was scared that people would be upset about a Black villain. And when the comics came out, they ACCEPTED and gladly printed updated drawings that featured both the 80s (and White) version of Jetta and the 'old but new' version of her. They embraced BOTH gens of Jem because Hasbro/IDW KNEW that fans of both versions were around so instead of pitting them against each other, they were like 'HEY! WHY DON'T WE SHOW BOTH?' Compare this with Nu-Ra who disrespects EVERYONE and ANYONE who doesn't bend down and kiss this show's ass and I put full blame on this on Noelle because she keeps ENABLING it. From day fucking one she kept gaslighting fans because to her that is validation. Knowing people are being this volatile over her version of the show doesn't hurt her but rather confirms to her own ego that she's in the right so I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't say a damn word about this. She has always doubled down on drama that her 'glorious' fan base has started, being needlessly snarky because this is all just a game to her but at the same time it just shows how much of an awful person she is on top of just being mediocre when it comes to art and storytelling. What we're seeing is a toxic fandom being led by a toxic woman. It's one thing where we have a fandom that is massive and the company that makes the product really has no control over them but we have seen Noelle being 'comfy' with fans and encouraging them to 'protect' this show and act as immature as possible when it comes to it. She has no qualms about it because she gets her jollies off of being insufferable so getting some more people like her in her little army isn't nothing new. Just let it be known that people WILL look back on this when that swing happens and come to realize just how badly she acted and how in turn how BAD her show was. Both it and her attitude are just bad.
I remember reading about the Jem thing about being afraid of backlash towards a black villain even when they had a black hero in the main cast. I think there was also someone suggesting the character could be British instead? Honestly even if Nu-Ra wasn't so annoying and half-assed on its own merits, the ego and behavior of Stevenson would be enough to taint it. As much as a monster the SU fandom became I don't remember Rebecca Sugar condoning it. Crew members even came out to tell them to be respectful and the crazies turned around to call them pro-child porn or some BS because that equals "being respectful to others' fanart." More creators like Stevenson worry me, not just because of quality of work but the attitude that's just going to drive a deeper wedge in fandoms over simplest of opinions and not to mention the straight up lies about the original She-Ra to write it and it's fanbase off. You already see traces of that with some of the Thunder Cats Roar crew and it doesn't look like it will stop sadly.
That's just it. Where is she? Because the only person who has spoken up about the bad behavior has been the original voice of She-ra and the way she talked, it seemed that yes, the marketing was intentionally being pushed that way (which we all figured.) Her whole thing was she wanted to be bigger and push farther than Rebecca Sugar....but Sugar did it first, did it better, and didn't need an established franchise to ride on. She could easily tell "her" fans to stop it, because frankly the PR spin and name calling did more to damage the shows chance than anything, but she hasn't. At this point, does it even matter? It's over now. It should have been done as soon as it started. Like the show or not, I would have respected that. But I wouldn't expect better behavior out of someone who used to go around Twitter starting fights with random MEN mostly, just so she could put them in their place. Plus she doesn't tend to correct people when they credit her for things that aren't all her either. There's a reason my first words were "Oh SHIT!" when I was it was her on the show guys.

FAST FORWARD several years later and the comic showed that the fear was POINTLESS because The Misfits ARE rivals but they aren't evil anyway sooooo....yeah....All that for nothing and Shana still acts the way she does and outside of that, no one cared. But getting back on topic, I'm not a fan of SU at all but yes, Noelle is WORSE than Rebecca because at least Sugar knew to keep her mouth shut online when she needed to. She's still under contract and knows that saying too much wouldn't only look bad on HER but also mess up any more chances for shows in the future. She at least has sense there but Noelle is something else. She is just a drama whore who lives off the drama. Unlikely. Two shows can both have a legacy. Kids now are growing up with the new she-ra, and they’ll likely be nostalgic for it. Just because you like the old show doesn’t mean no one will love and remember this one.

i understand that the original style of drawing from the older shows would cost a lot of money to recreate today, but still....i freaking hate these new styles of drawings in today's day an age. this weird tumblr-esk style just looks bland, kid-ish and meh and low quality. i love the structure and designs of the original works, the outfits were over the top and colourful, yeah argue it would be nicer for more variety of characters....but i'd take the OG over this new shit any day. god i miss the 80s to 90s style of character designs and 2d animations.
Yeah but only because it'd require people with actual talent in storyboarding and character design. With modern animation style anyone can freehand the characetrs because the style is super simple and the characters super bland.

As a 15 year old, the same thing happened to me when i drew fanart of my favourite character that so happened to be a bit lighter than the original photo, yet I still got accused of whitewashing. I literally panicked and redrew the entire thing, making sure I used the correct skin tone so it wouldn't happen again.

When I heard that Steven Universe fans almost drove a young girl to suicide was a thing that actually happened it made me want to throw my whole Spinel cosplay in the trash. I read some of the stuff they wrote and they sounded mental Like: "We will drag you to the bottom of the ocean to defend Steven Universe." I am genuinely afraid to actually bring my Spinel cosplay to a con because I'm still questioning if I'm straight or not and I'm afraid people will bash my scythe on my cranium breaking *Both* my scythe and my cranium just because I may not be fully gay.
When it comes to the cartoon fandoms it saddly is the vocal minority that yells. Being in the Steven universe fandom when the suicide threats, the review bombs(look up I think the keystone hotel incident) and the crew threats happened there was a lot of hatred towards those people who did that stuff. But I tried to stay away from most drama but it popped up on my dashboard a few times. I keep forgetting there are/were she-ra (2018) shows.

Ariel is not black or white. She doesn't have a race, her dad is triton the God of the sea therefore she doesn't have a specific skin tone because she is a God to. The pigment of Ariel's skin doesn't matter. Regardless, representation of minorities is important and should not be looked down upon. These people made a mistake. What they did wasn't right however you shouldn't hate on representation in media for a couple of people who haven't heard of He-Man.

I went on twitter for the first time this year just to look up the She-ra stuff and the first thing I see are an overwhelming number of ship art, characters embracing/making out, mentions of positive sexual tension, and characters drawn in suggestive clothing. *And they complain original She-ra was sexualized?*
Which is creepy since they de-aged most of the characters, and it's usually almost always the people claiming to be LGBTQ+ that make the art that sexualises those underage characters.

I feel the same way; I love the reboot (though I've never seen the original for various reasons), but to claim that drawing the 80's character is whitewashing is really dumb? I don't see anyone complaining about making Goku White or making the girl from Ghost in the Shell which was Asian White or making the Queen of Egypt white or making Jesus Christ White are all the black things that were whitewashed after the Reconquista

As far as Ghost in A Shell goes, the anime clearly shows that Major and other characters with cybernetics can be in any body type, sex, race that they want. At first, I didn’t want Scarlett to play the role for the reason you stated, but when I looked back at the actual show and movie, it’s not a big deal. The movie was good and she sort of looked like the character in the end.
Everyone hated Goku being white as well that movie being absolutely terrible (Dragonball Evolution).
From a historical standpoint, the queens of Egypt had different skin tones and different ethnicities have ruled over Egypt. Moving forward, if they showed more shades, that would be great. The American movie industry is not the only industry making films about Egyptian royalty. Go branch out and watch those. They are quite entertaining. 👍🏾
You can’t be mad about whitewashing but say nothing about established white characters being swapped for black characters. This is seen as sloppy seconds. Why can’t they make brand new black characters or develop established black characters who get put at the back of the line?

Just to be clear no She-Ra didn't get white washed it was mainly white in the fist She-Ra. I know that.
That's a discussion about if former white people should be get divers backgrounds and looks even so a former version was white or if this is simular or at the same level as white washing.
White washing would be people who are supposed to be divers, including Asians, Africans, Natives etc., being casted or drawn as white people.
While the "black washing" often effects people in a fantasy setting. E.g. the planet of the show She-Ra, mermaids, because there are so dam much different kinds of fish, or other universes and planets etc..
Making people of different colors in a scenario in which e.g. real cultur and/or countries don't play a role in order to have more relatedbale characters does make sense in my opinion.
But I think it's getting worth discussing when they replace a former white character.

While white washing affects people of color of an actual real country and/or culture (see e.g. if Diana from prinzess of the froge or Egyptian, Indiana and Asian people in Hollywood are played by or were be replaced by white people).
In She-Ra there is no established culture that has been replaced. The old She-Ra characters looked really alike because than it was easier to make toys from them and divers characters in shows were still rare. Now it's easier to make them divers and there is no actual reason why not to do it because it's not erasing any cultur or "takes jobs" away from people who have it hard in the media. Here is no harm done but there is a question what makes white washing harmful and at what point is it no white washing anymore.
E.g. Let's say She-Ra gets a 3rd reboot or maybe a next generation thing. The amount of divers people stays the same but two characters or two children of the main character have different skin colors and a character with a former dark skin from the first reboot now has white skin and another one who had white skinnow has black skin.
Is it wrong that the one character has been "turned" white? I would say no that wouldn't be wrong, because we still have the same set of diversity, so still a everyone has a character they can relate to and because that it is on an alien planet their skin color never played an important role.
So where do we put the line when white washing because problematic and when diversity or how you called it "black washing" can become a problem. Because up to this point most "black washing" has either been explained or the skin color didn't play a role in the univers or country they were set in and only brought more people who enjoy the shows in.
What kind of stories can only "realistically" been played by white people? When would it take away anything from the character when they weren't white? I think when we figured that out that would be the point in which "black-washing" wouldn't be right and a person should stay white. But I don't see that problem in She-Ra. Still people shouldn't claim that this young artist is white washing when she clearly takes the first She-Ra as an inspiration. Diversity isn't an excuse for cancel culture especially when it is a shield and especially when they make uneducated guesses and don't listen when people correct them. Aka it does not allow you to act like a dick.
@@Kino_Cartoon Hi I agree with most of your points here, I also think that adding diversity in a reboot where most OG characters were white, when it doesn't go against the established lore etc is, inherently a good thing, and not "blackwashing". This term is quite absurd to me to be honest because whitewashing is associated with the idea of the oppression and lack of representation of POC and so blackwhashing just doesn't make much sense at least to me.
Though there are instances where a more racially diverse cast goes against some worldbuilding elements from the original material. I recall this in the Witcher fandom, about some character design changing in the series from their portrayal in the books. And i don't think there's a right answer there either, though an argument against adding too much diversity can still be made, from certain characters at least but i still find the representation useful, especially since the original books sported a very white cast.
To sum up, i would only argue against adding diversity if it went directly against previously established elements that do play a part in the actual story. (For any Witcher fans reading this i'd argue that Fringilla being black is kind of weird but the only issue with, say Triss' actress is her age)
Althrough, obviously bullying a child is always wrong and the people who did this without even checking the context of her art are despicable and should apologize and be ashamed of their actions
Too bad they just couldn't create new, diverse characters for the reboot. Sideline the most of the original characters, except for the main, and just create new characters. Considering that the reboot was not beloved by old-time fans, nothing of value would have been lost.

@@JuanGomez-ke5py Personally, I respect the original for being the original, but I've watched some clips of the original and I'm not a huge fan of the animation and the general look of the show, and some of the voices (particularly Catra's) are really hard for me to listen to (doesn't help that I can barely hear Catra as well due to the high pitch... being deaf is fun).
I like the reboot, and it's fine to like or dislike the reboot or the original, but some of the things I'm seeing in general, a little bit on this comment section (comments like "The reboot needs to be completely wiped from existence" and such) and elsewhere complaining about the show just like...existing, which just doesn't make sense to me; all art has some significance, even bad art. You can learn as much from bad art as you can from good art (not that I think either She-Ra is necessarily bad). You'll learn different things, sure, but you're learning nonetheless.

Elio I actually knew about Shera and He man before the 'reboot' or something of Shera came out. Mainly thanks to my parents but I didn't exactly live in the most advanced places, back in México, but of course had a good life, so I got stuck with some original shows and movies. He man was one of them and as I came around and got older, I learned about shera and other shows.ni wasn't an expert of course, since I didn't exactly get to watch the eps and stuff but I knew of them.

The only thing in it I'd recommend is Catra because she's the one good thing in the show. Had some issues with her redemption but overall a really great character. It feels like the writers accidentally put all their good writing into her and forgot about everything else. The rest of the show isn't bad just boring and uninteresting. The other characters are boring, bland, or annoying and are almost never funny (besides Mermista) but that's really about it. Nothing in the show makes me mad (though I've never seen the original series so keep that in mind) the only thing that makes me mad is the fans being so toxic but that's to be expected.

I’d say it’s more like casting a black actor to play Fury in the Marvel movies when he was originally a white character, rather than any kind of statement about white characters being in some way not worthy of being depicted. They were working with what they had with She-ra, and when they were recreating the character, they changed the color of her skin. It’s not racism to want a more diverse cast, especially from the point of view of intentional character design. It makes the characters appearances more distinct.

You'd be surprised how many don't know it's redesigned from an 80s series and that these are the only designs they know. In a similar vein you will likely not believe how many times I have had to explain Devilman Crybaby wasn't new and is a remake of a series from 1972 (typically in response to not being phased by the ending, because I've seen it 4 or 5 times already with how many times Devilman's been adapted and referenced); or that Gurren Lagann has no original ideas and was instead a giant love letter to Ken Ishikawa's Getter Robo- to be met with responses that they had never heard of those. Tons of people these days literally only know of Captain Marvel as a woman via Carol Danvers and do not know she's the 7th to carry the name- they never heard of Mar-Vell nor Monica Rambeau even though they held the name about 14 years EACH; they never seen the original Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos and only know of Ultimate/MCU Nick, even though he's been in arcade games and whatnot. Not defending their behavior mind you, nothing about what is being shown in those screencaps is appropriate, but way more people than one would expect assume what they know is the original and respond with such a mindset

Fandoms are supposed to be fun spaces where fans can interact with each other over their love for the series (in this case) not to get literally told to kill yourself because you "whitewashed" a character.
This is disgusting and asinine. First off, harassing a minor is *never* okay. Secondly, if the original character was white, then it's not whitewashing; this isn't like _Arrow_ casting white people to play Sin or Brick, who are respectively Asian and African-American in the comics.

There has to be some irony in the people who declare themselves the most open and diverse are also the most intolerable people.
I want people to know that even the Jem differences between the comics and the original show aren't met with this much ire, especially considering that Sophie didn't technically race bend Jetta but drew her as Christie had planned given Jetta WAS supposed to be Black but Hasbro was scared that people would be upset about a Black villain. And when the comics came out, they ACCEPTED and gladly printed updated drawings that featured both the 80s (and White) version of Jetta and the 'old but new' version of her. They embraced BOTH gens of Jem because Hasbro/IDW KNEW that fans of both versions were around so instead of pitting them against each other, they were like 'HEY! WHY DON'T WE SHOW BOTH?'
Compare this with Nu-Ra who disrespects EVERYONE and ANYONE who doesn't bend down and kiss this show's ass and I put full blame on this on Noelle because she keeps ENABLING it. From day fucking one she kept gaslighting fans because to her that is validation. Knowing people are being this volatile over her version of the show doesn't hurt her but rather confirms to her own ego that she's in the right so I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't say a damn word about this. She has always doubled down on drama that her 'glorious' fan base has started, being needlessly snarky because this is all just a game to her but at the same time it just shows how much of an awful person she is on top of just being mediocre when it comes to art and storytelling.
What we're seeing is a toxic fandom being led by a toxic woman. It's one thing where we have a fandom that is massive and the company that makes the product really has no control over them but we have seen Noelle being 'comfy' with fans and encouraging them to 'protect' this show and act as immature as possible when it comes to it. She has no qualms about it because she gets her jollies off of being insufferable so getting some more people like her in her little army isn't nothing new. Just let it be known that people WILL look back on this when that swing happens and come to realize just how badly she acted and how in turn how BAD her show was. Both it and her attitude are just bad.

Honestly even if Nu-Ra wasn't so annoying and half-assed on its own merits, the ego and behavior of Stevenson would be enough to taint it. As much as a monster the SU fandom became I don't remember Rebecca Sugar condoning it. Crew members even came out to tell them to be respectful and the crazies turned around to call them pro-child porn or some BS because that equals "being respectful to others' fanart." More creators like Stevenson worry me, not just because of quality of work but the attitude that's just going to drive a deeper wedge in fandoms over simplest of opinions and not to mention the straight up lies about the original She-Ra to write it and it's fanbase off. You already see traces of that with some of the Thunder Cats Roar crew and it doesn't look like it will stop sadly.
That's just it. Where is she? Because the only person who has spoken up about the bad behavior has been the original voice of She-ra and the way she talked, it seemed that yes, the marketing was intentionally being pushed that way (which we all figured.) Her whole thing was she wanted to be bigger and push farther than Rebecca Sugar....but Sugar did it first, did it better, and didn't need an established franchise to ride on. She could easily tell "her" fans to stop it, because frankly the PR spin and name calling did more to damage the shows chance than anything, but she hasn't. At this point, does it even matter? FAST FORWARD several years later and the comic showed that the fear was POINTLESS because The Misfits ARE rivals but they aren't evil anyway sooooo....yeah....All that for nothing and Shana still acts the way she does and outside of that, no one cared.
But getting back on topic, I'm not a fan of SU at all but yes, Noelle is WORSE than Rebecca because at least Sugar knew to keep her mouth shut online when she needed to. She's still under contract and knows that saying too much wouldn't only look bad on HER but also mess up any more chances for shows in the future. She at least has sense there but Noelle is something else. She is just a drama whore who lives off the drama. She won't shut up until someone actually grows the balls to tell her to shut the fuck up but who knows if that is ever going to happen. She's just a bad person all out.
@@kambreapratt8858 Yeah, I can tell that Noelle wanted to 'get her name out there' but even with Sugar in the mix, neither of them are really anything special considering that Sugar herself isn't the first female show lead PERIOD. She's just the first for a show that is original for CN itself so Noelle has even less to claim for herself with all this shit. I can honestly say 100% that Noelle is just an obnoxious and toxic person, not joking around waving around the word 'toxic'.
She doesn't care about anyone outside of what they can do and give her which is why she keeps enabling this keeps to 'fight for her' when it comes to people who don't like Nu-Ra or just aren't impressed by it. For a person who knows what it's like to be treated poorly or mocked, you would think she would do something about this. Unlikely. Two shows can both have a legacy. Kids now are growing up with the new she-ra, and they’ll likely be nostalgic for it. Just because you like the old show doesn’t mean no one will love and remember this one.

i understand that the original style of drawing from the older shows would cost a lot of money to recreate today, but still....i freaking hate these new styles of drawings in today's day an age. this weird tumblr-esk style just looks bland, kid-ish and meh and low quality. i love the structure and designs of the original works, the outfits were over the top and colourful, yeah argue it would be nicer for more variety of characters....but i'd take the OG over this new shit any day. god i miss the 80s to 90s style of character designs and 2d animations.

Yeah but only because it'd require people with actual talent in storyboarding and character design. With modern animation style anyone can freehand the characetrs because the style is super simple and the characters super bland.

As a 15 year old, the same thing happened to me when i drew fanart of my favourite character that so happened to be a bit lighter than the original photo, yet I still got accused of whitewashing. I literally panicked and redrew the entire thing, making sure I used the correct skin tone so it wouldn't happen again.

When it comes to the cartoon fandoms it saddly is the vocal minority that yells.
Being in the Steven universe fandom when the suicide threats, the review bombs(look up I think the keystone hotel incident) and the crew threats happened there was a lot of hatred towards those people who did that stuff.
But I tried to stay away from most drama but it popped up on my dashboard a few times.

Ariel is not black or white. She doesn't have a race, her dad is triton the God of the sea therefore she doesn't have a specific skin tone because she is a God to. The pigment of Ariel's skin doesn't matter. Regardless, representation of minorities is important and should not be looked down upon. These people made a mistake. What they did wasn't right however you shouldn't hate on representation in media for a couple of people who haven't heard of He-Man.
